Abstract

A method for providing electrical stimulation to a user as a user performs a set of tasks during a time window, the method comprising: providing an electrical stimulation treatment, characterized by a stimulation parameter and a set of portions, to a brain region of the user in association with the time window; for each task of the set of tasks: receiving a signal stream characterizing a neurological state of the user; from the signal stream, identifying a neurological signature characterizing the neurological state associated with the task; and modulating the electrical stimulation treatment provided to the brain region of the user based upon the neurological signature, wherein modulating comprises delivering a portion of the set of portions of the electrical stimulation treatment to the brain region of the user, while maintaining an aggregate amount of the stimulation parameter of the treatment provided during the time window below a maximum limit.

Claims (34)

1. A method for providing electrical stimulation to a user at an electrical stimulation device, the method comprising:

at a processing system coupled to the electrical stimulation device:

determining a task;

determining a user progress level associated with the task;

determining an electrical stimulation treatment based on the task and the user progress level;

at the electrical stimulation device, providing the electrical stimulation treatment to a brain region of the user;

guiding the user in performing the task at a mobile computing device associated with the user, the mobile computing device coupled to the processing system;

recording a user performance metric during the task of interest;

modulating the electrical stimulation treatment based on the user performance metric; and

updating the user progress level based on the modulated electrical stimulation treatment.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a second task based on the updated user progress level.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein providing the electrical stimulation treatment to a brain region of the user comprises providing the electrical stimulation treatment to a frontal lobe region of the user.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the task comprises receiving input from the user at an application executing on the mobile computing device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the task comprises a cognitive task.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the cognitive task comprises a questionnaire configured to assess a user's learning in relation to a predetermined desired skill.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein modulating the electrical stimulation treatment comprises altering a current amplitude of the electrical stimulation treatment.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising tracking a progress level of the user, wherein the task is determined based on the progress level, and wherein the progress level is updated based on the performance metric.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting a second task based on the user performance metric.

10. A method for providing electrical stimulation to a user, the method comprising:

providing an electrical stimulation device at a surface of a head region of the user;

at a processing system coupled to the electrical stimulation device, determining a task of interest to the user;

with the electrical stimulation device, providing an electrical stimulation session, the electrical stimulation session having a set of portions, to a brain region of the user, wherein providing the electrical stimulation session comprises delivering a first portion of the set of portions of the electrical stimulation session to the brain region of the user, wherein the first portion is determined based on a task of interest to the user;

guiding the user in performing the task of interest at a mobile computing device associated with the user, the mobile computing device coupled to the processing system;

determining, at the processing system, a performance metric associated with the task of interest; and

delivering a second portion of the set of portions of the electrical stimulation session based on the performance metric.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising determining a second task based on the performance metric.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising providing a second electrical stimulation session based on the second task.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein determining the task of interest to the user comprises receiving input from the user at an application executing on the mobile computing device.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the task of interest is configured to increase a memory aptitude of the user.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the task of interest comprises a game configured to test a user's working memory.

16. The method of claim 10 , wherein modulating the electrical stimulation treatment comprises altering a current amplitude of the electrical stimulation treatment.

17. The method of claim 10 , further comprising tracking a progress level of the user, wherein the task of interest is determined based on the progress level, and wherein the progress level is updated based on the performance metric.

18. The method of claim 10 , further comprising modifying the task of interest based on the user performance metric.

19. The method of claim 10 , wherein providing the electrical stimulation treatment to a brain region of the user comprises providing the electrical stimulation treatment to a frontal lobe region of the user.
