Abstract

A flight planning system for providing a flight planning tool on a client device comprises a flight planning module, a weather module, and an airport module; and a flight planning application programming interface configured to communicate with the modules and client device and receive, via interface hardware of the client device, a request for information associated with a selection of one of a plurality of tools corresponding to one of the modules; the flight planning module configured to: retrieve, based on the tool selection, information responsive to the request from at least one of: a third-party device via the flight planning API; or another of the plurality of modules; generate an aviation flight plan based on the information responsive to the request; and transmit, via the API, the flight plan to the client device, the flight plan configured for display via a display device of the client device.

Claims (35)

1. A flight planning system for providing a flight planning tool on a client device, comprising:

a plurality of modules, including a flight planning module, a weather module, and an airport module; and

a flight planning application programming interface (API) configured to communicate with the plurality of modules and the client device, the flight planning API configured to receive, from the client device, a request for information associated with a selection, received via interface hardware of the client device, of one of a plurality of tools corresponding to one of the plurality of modules;

the flight planning module being configured to:

retrieve, based on the tool selection, information responsive to the request from at least one of:

a third-party device via the flight planning API; or

another of the plurality of modules;

generate an aviation flight plan based on the information responsive to the request retrieved from the at least one of a third-party device or other module; and

transmit, via the API, the flight plan to the client device, the flight plan being configured for display via a display device of the client device.

2. The flight planning system of claim 1 , wherein the flight planning module is configured to generate a flight route associated with the flight plan based on at least some of the information responsive to the request.

3. The flight planning system of claim 2 , wherein the flight planning module is configured to generate an interactive graphical chart including the flight route.

4. The flight planning system of claim 3 , wherein the interactive graphical chart further includes a weather display.

5. The flight planning system of claim 1 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes weather information retrieved from a third party device via the flight planning API.

6. The flight planning system of claim 1 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes weather information retrieved from the weather module.

7. The flight planning system of claim 1 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes weather information comprising at least one of a current weather condition or forecasted weather information.

8. The flight planning system of claim 1 , wherein the wherein the information responsive to the request includes airport information retrieved from a third party device via the flight planning API.

9. The flight planning system of claim 1 , wherein the wherein the information responsive to the request includes airport information retrieved from the airport module.

10. The flight planning system of claim 1 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes airport information comprising at least one of an airport location, an airport code, a runway length, a runway diagram, and an altitude.

11. A method of planning a flight, comprising:

providing a communication connection between a client device and a plurality of modules via a flight planning application program interface (API), the plurality of modules, including a flight planning module, a weather module, and an airport module; and

transmitting from the client device to at least one of the plurality of modules, via the API, a request for information associated with a selection of one of a plurality of tools corresponding to one of the plurality of modules, the selection being received via interface hardware of the client device;

retrieving, via the flight planning module, information responsive to the request based on the tool selection, the information being retrieved from at least one of:

a third-party device via the flight planning API; or

another of the plurality of modules;

generating an aviation flight plan based on the information responsive to the request retrieved from the at least one of a third-party device or other module; and

transmitting, via the API, the flight plan to the client device, the flight plan being configured for display via a display device of the client device.

12. The method of claim 11 , further including generating a flight route associated with the flight plan based on at least some of the information responsive to the request.

13. The method of claim 12 , further including generating an interactive graphical chart including the flight route.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the interactive graphical chart further includes a weather display.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes weather information retrieved from a third party device via the flight planning API.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes weather information retrieved from the weather module.

17. The method of claim 11 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes weather information comprising at least one of current weather conditions or forecasted weather information.

18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes airport information retrieved from a third party device via the flight planning API.

19. The method of claim 11 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes airport information retrieved from the airport module.

20. The method of claim 11 , wherein the information responsive to the request includes airport information comprising at least one of an airport location, an airport code, a runway length, a runway diagram, and an altitude.
