Abstract

A plaque tack can be used for holding plaque against blood vessel walls such as in treating atherosclerotic occlusive disease. The plaque tack can be formed as a thin, annular band for holding loose plaque under a spring or other expansion force against a blood vessel wall. Focal elevating elements and/or other features, such as anchors, can be used to exert a holding force on a plaque position while minimizing the amount of material surface area in contact with the plaque or blood vessel wall and reducing the potential of friction with the endoluminal surface. This approach offers clinicians the ability to perform a minimally invasive post-angioplasty treatment and produce a stent-like result without using a stent.

Claims (52)

1. An endovascular implant comprising:

a self-expanding frame comprising:

a first circumferentially oriented ring comprising proximally facing apices and distally facing apices, the first circumferentially oriented ring defining a first end of the endovascular implant,

a second circumferentially oriented ring comprising proximally facing apices and distally facing apices, the second circumferentially oriented ring defining a second end of the endovascular implant,

a plurality of bridges connecting non-consecutive said proximally facing apices of the first circumferentially oriented ring to one circumferentially-adjacent said distally facing apex of the second circumferentially oriented ring,

a length of the implant being no more than 15 mm, and

an expanded diameter of the implant being between 1 mm and 10 mm;

a plurality of cells between the first circumferentially oriented ring and the second circumferentially oriented ring and circumferentially between pairs of bridges of the plurality of bridges; and

a radiopaque marker coupled to an eyelet on each bridge of the plurality of bridges, the eyelet at a midline of the implant, the radiopaque marker comprising at least one of tantalum or gold, the radiopaque marker configured to offer clear visibility of the endovascular implant in a catheter delivery system and to provide guidance to a clinician for accurate placement in a superficial femoral artery, an iliac artery, a popliteal artery, or a tibial artery during a medical procedure.

2. The implant of claim 1 , wherein an outer surface of the radiopaque marker is disposed radially inside an outer surface of the implant.

3. An endovascular implant delivery system comprising:

a catheter shaft;

a plurality of self-expanding endovascular implants around the catheter shaft and spaced apart by a plurality of catheter shaft protrusions, each self-expanding endovascular implant of the plurality of self-expanding endovascular implants comprising the implant of claim 1 ; and

a sheath around the catheter shaft.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein each self-expanding endovascular implant of the plurality of self-expanding endovascular implants is spaced apart from an adjacent each self-expanding endovascular implant of the plurality of self-expanding endovascular implants by at least about 4 mm in the endovascular implant delivery system.

5. The system of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of self-expanding endovascular implants is at least five self-expanding endovascular implants.

6. An endovascular implant comprising:

a first undulating ring comprising proximally facing apices;

a second undulating ring comprising distally facing apices;

a plurality of bridges connecting every-other said proximally facing apex of the first undulating ring to a circumferentially-adjacent said distally facing apex of the second undulating ring,

a plurality of cells between the first undulating ring and the second undulating ring and between pairs of bridges of the plurality of bridges; and

a radiopaque marker coupled to an eyelet;

wherein a length of the implant is no more than 15 mm, and

wherein the implant has an expanded diameter between 1 mm and 10 mm.

7. The implant of claim 6 , wherein the radiopaque marker is configured to provide guidance for accurate placement during a medical procedure in a superficial femoral artery, an iliac artery, a popliteal artery, or a tibial artery.

8. The implant of claim 6 , wherein the implant is self-expanding.

9. The implant of claim 6 , wherein the first undulating ring at least partially defines a first end of the implant and wherein the second undulating ring at least partially defines a second end of the implant.

10. An endovascular implant delivery system comprising:

a catheter shaft;

a plurality of endovascular implants around the catheter shaft and spaced apart by a plurality of catheter shaft protrusions, each endovascular implant of the plurality of endovascular implants comprising the implant of claim 6 ; and

a sheath around the catheter shaft.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein each endovascular implant of the plurality of endovascular implants is spaced apart from an adjacent each endovascular implant of the plurality of endovascular implants by at least about 4 mm in the endovascular implant delivery system.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of endovascular implants is at least five endovascular implants.

13. An endovascular implant comprising:

a first ring comprising a first set of inward apices;

a second ring comprising a second set of inward apices; and

a plurality of bridges connecting alternating circumferentially-adjacent inward apices of the first set of inward apices and the second set of inward apices,

a plurality of cells between the first ring and the second ring;

wherein a length of the implant is no more than 15 mm, and

wherein the implant has an expanded diameter between 1 mm and 10 mm, and

wherein the length is about equal to or less than the expanded diameter.

14. The implant of claim 13 , further comprising an eyelet.

15. The implant of claim 14 , further comprising a radiopaque marker coupled to the eyelet.

16. The implant of claim 13 , wherein the implant is self-expanding.

17. The implant of claim 15 , wherein the radiopaque marker is configured to provide guidance to a clinician for accurate placement in a superficial femoral artery, an iliac artery, a popliteal artery, or a tibial artery during a medical procedure.

18. The implant of claim 13 , wherein the first ring at least partially defines a first end of the implant and wherein the second ring at least partially defines a second end of the implant.

19. An endovascular implant delivery system comprising:

a catheter shaft;

a plurality of endovascular implants around the catheter shaft and spaced apart by a plurality of catheter shaft protrusions, each endovascular implant of the plurality of endovascular implants comprising the implant of claim 13 ; and

a sheath around the catheter shaft.
