Abstract

Improved wearable optics is disclosed. The wearable optics comprises a frame member and a lens. The wearable optics also includes circuitry within the frame member for enhancing the use of the wearable optics. A system and method in accordance with the present invention is directed to a variety of ways to enhance the use of eyeglasses. They are: (1) media focals, that is, utilizing the wearable optics for its intended purpose and enhancing that use by using imaging techniques to improve the vision of the user; (2) telecommunications enhancements that allow the eyeglasses to be integrated with telecommunication devices such as cell phones or the like; and (3) entertainment enhancements that allow the wearable optics to be integrated with devices such as MP3 players, radios, or the like.

Claims (95)

1. A wearable optics device including

a lens; and

a dynamic eye tracking mechanism in communication with the lens;

wherein the dynamic eye tracking mechanism utilizes optical parameter measurements;

wherein the optical parameter measurements include any of ciliary measurements, pupil measurements, corneal measurements, eye lens measurements, iris measurements, eye lid measurements, or retina measurements;

wherein parameters personalized to a user can be provided based upon the dynamic eye tracking mechanism;

wherein the wearable optics device is responsive to one or more of: eye/head movements or facial gestures, or hand or finger movements or gestures;

wherein an augmented reality overlay is presented at a location determined independent of an external device;

wherein information is not disposed on the lens.

2. A wearable optics device as in claim 1 , wherein

the wearable optics device is disposed to control one or more of:

a telecommunications environment, sales system, audio/video conferencing, a game controller, a mobile phone, a mouse/cursor or pointing device, a tablet, a console, or a video screen.

3. A wearable optics device as in claim 2 , wherein

the sales system is coupled to one or more of: a commercial establishment, or an ordering system at a commercial establishment.

4. A wearable optics device as in claim 2 , wherein

the sales system is responsive to one or more of:

recognition of objects provided to customers, or recognition of identification of objects requested by customers;

the sales system provides identification of those objects to one or more of: a user, or a sales system disposed to determine a charge to make to customers.

5. A wearable optics device as in claim 4 , wherein

the recognition of objects is responsive to labels on the objects;

the labels on the objects include one or more of:

tags, RFID devices, bar codes, or printed names, associated with or attached to the objects.

6. A wearable optics device as in claim 1 , wherein

the dynamic eye tracking mechanism is responsive to action by only a single one of the user's eyes.

7. A wearable optics device as in claim 1 , wherein

the lens includes a plurality of layers.

8. A wearable optics device as in claim 1 , wherein

the augmented reality overlay includes information presented via audio.

9. A wearable optics device as in claim 1 , wherein

the wearable optics device is disposed to control one or more of:

a game controller, a mobile phone, a mouse/cursor or pointing device, a tablet, a console, or a video screen.

10. A wearable optics device as in claim 8 , wherein

the wearable optics device is disposed to control one or more of:

a system responsive to one or more of:

recognition of objects provided to customers, or recognition of identification of objects requested by customers;

the system provides identification of those objects to one or more of: a user, or a system disposed to determine a charge to make to customers.

11. A wearable optics device as in claim 9 , wherein

the recognition of objects is responsive to labels on the objects;

the labels on the objects include one or more of:

tags, RFID devices, bar codes, or printed names,

associated with or attached to the objects.

12. A wearable optics device, including

a dynamic eye mechanism, the dynamic eye mechanism being responsive to one or more of: eye/head movements or facial gestures, or hand or finger movements or gestures viewable by the user's eyes;

a control system coupled to the dynamic eye tracking mechanism, the control system disposed to receive information with respect to the eye/head movements or facial gestures, or the hand or finger movements or gestures viewable by the user's eyes;

the control system coupled to one or more of:

a telecommunications environment, a sales system, audio/video conferencing, a game controller, a mobile phone, a mouse/cursor or pointing device, a tablet, a console, or a video screen;

wherein information is not disposed on the lens.

13. A wearable optics device as in claim 12 , wherein

the sales system is coupled to one or more of: a commercial establishment, or an ordering system at a commercial establishment;

the sales establishment is disposed to sell food or drinks.

14. A wearable optics device as in claim 12 , including

a lens coupled to the dynamic eye tracking system;

wherein the lens is disposed to present to the user one or more menu items available at a commercial establishment.

15. A wearable optics device as in claim 12 , wherein

the element disposed to provide information to a user is disposed to present to the user, one or more selections of:

a radio receiver, a telephone, an audio player, a video receiver, a video player, or a game controller.

16. A wearable optics device as in claim 12 , wherein

the dynamic eye tracking mechanism is responsive to action by only a single one of the user's eyes.

17. A wearable optics device as in claim 12 , wherein

the lens includes a plurality of layers.

18. A wearable optics device as in claim 12 , wherein

an augmented reality overlay is presented at a location determined independent of an external device.

19. A wearable optics device as in claim 18 , including

a lens coupled to the dynamic eye tracking system.

20. A wearable optics device as in claim 18 , including

wherein the dynamic eye tracking mechanism utilizes optical parameter measurements;

wherein the optical parameter measurements include any of:

ciliary measurements, pupil measurements, corneal measurements, eye lens measurements, iris measurements, eye lid measurements, or retina measurements;

wherein parameters personalized to a user can be provided based upon the dynamic eye tracking mechanism.

21. A wearable optics device including

a lens; and

a dynamic eye tracking mechanism in communication with the lens;

wherein the dynamic eye tracking mechanism utilizes optical parameter measurements;

wherein the optical parameter measurements include any of ciliary measurements, pupil measurements, corneal measurements, eye lens measurements, iris measurements, eye lid measurements, or retina measurements;

wherein parameters personalized to a user can be provided based upon the dynamic eye tracking mechanism;

wherein the wearable optics device is responsive to one or more of: eye/head movements or facial gestures, or hand or finger movements or gestures, the hand or finger movements or gestures being viewable by the user's eyes;

wherein an augmented reality overlay is presented at a location determined independent of an external device;

wherein the optical parameter measurements include one or more of: an eye looking in a predetermined direction for a selected duration of time, one or more eye blinks;

wherein the dynamic eye tracking mechanism is disposed to control a device external to the wearable optics device;

wherein information capable of viewing by the user is not disposed on the lens.

22. A wearable optics device as in claim 21 , wherein

the predetermined direction includes one or more of: substantially leftward, substantially rightward, substantially upward, substantially downward,

with respect to a user's gaze direction.

23. A wearable optics device as in claim 21 , wherein

the device external to the wearable optics device includes a touch-sensitive element.

24. A wearable optics device as in claim 21 , wherein

the device external to the wearable optics device includes a communication system coupled to a telecommunications environment.

25. A wearable optics device as in claim 24 , wherein

the telecommunications environment includes caller ID.

26. A wearable optics device as in claim 21 , wherein

the device external to the wearable optics device includes an element disposed to be coupled to one or more of: a sales system, a commercial establishment, or an ordering system at a commercial establishment.

27. A wearable optics device as in claim 21 , wherein

the device external to the wearable optics device is disposed to be coupled to a social media system.

28. A wearable optics device as in claim 21 , wherein

the device external to the wearable optics device is disposed to be coupled to one or more of: audio conferencing, audio/video conferencing.
