Abstract

The disclosure relates to a method of delivering a video frame. One implementation may involve spatially partitioning a video frame into a plurality of blocks, encoding at least one of the plurality of blocks of the video frame, and transmitting the at least one of the plurality of blocks of the video frame.

Claims (51)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a computing device, data indicating a partitioned immersive video frame comprising a plurality of blocks;

receiving data indicating a first area of focus associated with a first user who viewed the frame;

receiving data indicating a second area of focus associated with a second user who viewed the frame;

determining a common area of focus that is common to the first area of focus and the second area of focus;

multicasting, to a first user device associated with the first user and to a second user device associated with the second user, a baseline layer comprising blocks disposed within or overlapping the common area of focus and blocks disposed outside of the common area of focus, wherein in the baseline layer, the blocks disposed within or overlapping the common area of focus have higher resolution than the blocks disposed outside of the common area of focus; and

unicasting, to the first user device, an enhancement layer corresponding to blocks that are disposed outside of the common area of focus and within, or overlapping, the first area of focus.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

unicasting, to the second user device, an enhancement layer corresponding to blocks that are disposed outside of the common area of focus and within, or overlapping, the second area of focus.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the computing device is located at a first premises that is different from a second premises at which at least one of the first user device or the second user device is located.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a portion, of the common area of focus, that receives more attention, from the first user, the second user, and other users, than other portions of the common area of focus.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the baseline layer comprises blocks disposed within or overlapping an area of interest that is independent of the common area of focus.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, based on a resolution of a block of the plurality of blocks, a bitrate at which audio content associated with the block is sent.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

recording, based on a resolution of the blocks disposed within or overlapping the common area of focus, the partitioned immersive video frame.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, from the first user device, a vision profile of the first user; and

based on the vision profile of the first user, sending a first two-dimensional video frame for one eye of the first user and a second two-dimensional video frame for the other eye of the first user, wherein a resolution of the first two-dimensional video frame is higher than a resolution of the second two-dimensional video frame.

9. A method comprising:

sending data indicating an area of focus associated with a user of a user device;

receiving, from a computing device, a multicast baseline stream corresponding to video content comprising a plurality of blocks, wherein the multicast baseline stream comprises:

first blocks, of the plurality of blocks, that are disposed within or overlapping with an aggregate area of focus of the user and a plurality of other users; and

second blocks, of the plurality of blocks, that are disposed outside of the aggregate area of focus, wherein the first blocks comprise a higher resolution than the second blocks; and

receiving a unicast enhancement layer corresponding to the video content, wherein the unicast enhancement layer comprises additional image data for the first blocks.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the computing device is located at a first premises that is different from a second premises at which the user device is located.

11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

determining that the aggregate area of focus comprises a block, from the plurality of blocks, receiving a percentage, which is greater than a predetermined percentage, of attention from the user and multiple different users.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

sending data indicating a vision profile of the user; and

based on the vision profile, receiving a first two-dimensional video frame for one eye of the user and a second two-dimensional video frame for the other eye of the user, wherein a resolution of the first two-dimensional video frame is higher than a resolution of the second two-dimensional video frame.

13. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

receiving audio content associated with a block of the plurality of blocks, wherein a bitrate, at which the audio content associated with the block is transmitted, is based on a resolution of a block of the plurality of blocks.

14. A method comprising:

receiving, by a computing device, data indicating a video frame comprising a plurality of blocks;

receiving data indicating areas of focus associated with a plurality of users of a plurality of user devices;

determining, based on the data indicating the areas of focus associated with the plurality of users, an aggregate area of focus;

sending, to the plurality of user devices, a baseline layer comprising blocks, of the plurality of blocks, disposed within or overlapping the aggregate area of focus and blocks, of the plurality of blocks, disposed outside of the aggregate area of focus, wherein in the baseline layer, the blocks disposed within or overlapping the aggregate area of focus have higher resolution than the blocks disposed outside of the aggregate area of focus; and

sending, to one of the plurality of user devices and based on an area of focus of a user of the one of the plurality of user devices, an enhancement layer corresponding to blocks, of the plurality of blocks, which are disposed within, or overlap, the area of focus of the user of the one of the plurality of user devices.

15. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

determining, based on a resolution of a block of the plurality of blocks, a bitrate at which audio content associated with the block is sent.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the computing device is located at a first premises that is different from a second premises at which the one of the plurality of user devices is located.

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the baseline layer comprises blocks disposed within or overlapping an area of interest that is independent of the aggregate area of focus.

18. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

recording, based on a resolution of the blocks disposed within or overlapping the aggregate area of focus, the video frame.

19. The method of claim 14 , wherein the determining the aggregate area of focus comprises:

determining that the aggregate area of focus comprises a block, from the plurality of blocks, receiving a percentage, which is greater than a predetermined percentage, of attention from the plurality of users.

20. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

receiving, from a different one of the plurality of user devices, a vision profile of a second user of the different one of the plurality of user devices; and

based on the vision profile of the second user, sending a first two-dimensional video frame for one eye of the second user and a second two-dimensional video frame for the other eye of the second user, wherein a resolution of the first two-dimensional video frame is higher than a resolution of the second two-dimensional video frame.
