Abstract

An image forming apparatus includes: a casing; photosensitive drums juxtaposed with each other in a juxtaposed direction; developing units each including a developing roller; an opening-closing member; and a first contacting-separating member. The opening-closing member is movable between an open position and a closed position. The first contacting-separating member is provided at the opening-closing member and movable relative to the casing in the juxtaposed direction for moving, in a state where the opening-closing member is at the closed position, the developing roller between an adjacent position adjacent to or in contact with the corresponding photosensitive drums and a separated position spaced apart from the corresponding photosensitive drums.

Claims (39)

1. A developing cartridge detachably attachable to an image forming apparatus, the developing cartridge comprising:

a developing-unit frame comprising a developing-unit front wall, the developing-unit front wall having a first guide hole;

a developing unit supported by the developing-unit frame, comprising:

a developing roller for carrying toner;

a developing-device frame for supporting the developing roller, the developing-device frame comprising:

a toner-accommodating section for accommodating toner; and

a first guided part extending in an axial direction of the developing roller, the first guided part extending through the first guide hole on the developing-unit front wall.

2. The developing cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the image forming apparatus includes a photosensitive drum;

the developing cartridge further comprising:

a pivoting member having a first end portion and a second end portion, the first end portion of the pivoting member being pivotally coupled to the developing-unit frame; and

an urging member disposed between the developing-device frame and the pivoting member, the urging member being configured to urge the pivoting member in a direction in which the second end portion of the pivoting member moves away from the developing-device frame,

wherein, when the developing cartridge is attached to the image forming apparatus, the urging member urges the pivoting member and the developing cartridge is urged in a direction in which the developing roller is in contact with the photosensitive drum of the image forming apparatus.

3. The developing cartridge according to claim 2 ,

wherein, when the developing cartridge is attached to the image forming apparatus, the developing roller is positioned above the urging member.

4. The developing cartridge according to claim 2 ,

wherein the urging member is a coil spring.

5. The developing cartridge according to claim 1 ,

wherein, when the developing cartridge is attached to the image forming apparatus, the toner-accommodating section is disposed below the developing roller.

6. The developing cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a supply roller for supplying toner to the developing roller;

wherein, when the developing cartridge is attached to the image forming apparatus, the toner-accommodating section is disposed below the supply roller.

7. The developing cartridge according to claim 1 ,

wherein the developing unit further comprises a thickness-regulating blade for regulating thickness of toner carried on the developing roller; and

wherein, when the developing cartridge is attached to the image forming apparatus:

the toner-accommodating section is disposed below the developing roller, and

the thickness-regulating blade is disposed at a position below the developing roller and above the toner-accommodating section.

8. An image forming apparatus for use with a developing cartridge according to claim 1 , comprising:

a drum drawer detachably attachable to the image forming apparatus comprising a photosensitive drum;

a belt unit comprising:

a drive roller;

a follow roller;

an intermediate transfer belt supported by the drive roller and the follow roller; and

a primary transfer roller for transferring toner from the photosensitive drum to the intermediate transfer belt;

a secondary transfer roller for transferring toner from the intermediate transfer belt to a sheet;

wherein, when the developing cartridge and the drum drawer are attached to the image forming apparatus:

the photosensitive drum is disposed below the belt unit and over the developing roller; and

the intermediate transfer belt is nipped between the photosensitive drum and the primary transfer roller.

9. The developing cartridge according to claim 1 ,

wherein the developing-unit frame further comprises a developing-unit rear wall having a second guide hole; and

wherein the developing-device frame further comprises a second guided part extending in the axial direction of the developing roller, the second guided part extending through the second guide hole on the developing-unit rear wall.
