Abstract

According to one embodiment, a display device includes a display panel including a polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer, and a light-emitting module disposed along a side surface of the display panel. The light-emitting module includes a light-emitting element, a light guide disposed between the light-emitting element and the side surface, and a reflector. The light guide has a first surface and a second surface facing each other, a third surface facing the light-emitting element, and a fourth surface facing the side surface. The reflector is disposed on each of the first surface and the second surface.

Claims (42)

1. A display device comprising:

a display panel comprising a first substrate, a second substrate including a glass substrate, and a polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate; and

a light-emitting module disposed on the first substrate and facing along a side surface of the glass substrate, wherein

the light-emitting module comprises:

a light-emitting element;

a light guide disposed between the light-emitting element and the side surface;

a wiring substrate electrically connected to the light-emitting element; and

a reflector bonded to the wiring substrate,

the light guide has a first surface and a second surface facing each other in a first direction, a third surface facing the light-emitting element, a fourth surface facing the side surface, a fifth surface bonded to the wiring substrate and a sixth surface bonded to the first substrate,

the third surface and the fourth surface face each other in a second direction intersecting the first direction,

the fifth surface and the sixth surface face each other in a third direction,

the third direction corresponds to a thickness direction of the display panel,

the reflector faces each of the first surface and the second surface in the first direction, and

the reflector is separated from each of the first surface and the second surface with spaces in the first direction.

2. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the reflector is formed of a white material.

3. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the reflector is formed of a metal material.

4. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the light-emitting module further comprises a common adhesive layer, wherein

the reflector and the fifth surface of the light guide are bonded to the wiring substrate by the common adhesive layer.

5. The display device of claim 4 , wherein

the reflector has a first portion facing the first surface, a second portion facing the second surface, and a third portion connecting the first portion and the second portion, and

the light-emitting element is disposed between the third portion and the light guide, in the second direction.

6. A light-emitting module comprising:

a light-emitting element;

a wiring substrate electrically connected to the light-emitting element;

a light guide having a first surface and a second surface facing each other in a first direction, and a third surface facing the light-emitting element in a second direction intersecting the first direction; and

a reflector disposed on the wiring substrate and facing each of the first surface and the second surface in the first direction, wherein

the reflector is separated from each of the first surface and the second surface with spaces in the first direction.

7. The light-emitting module of claim 6 , further comprising:

a common adhesive layer, wherein

the reflector and the light guide are bonded to the wiring substrate by the common adhesive laver.

8. The light-emitting module of claim 6 , wherein

the reflector has a first portion facing the first surface, a second portion facing the second surface, and a third portion connecting the first portion and the second portion, and

the light-emitting element is disposed between the third portion and the light guide in the second direction.

9. The light-emitting module of claim 6 , wherein

the light guide further has a fifth surface bonded to the wiring substrate,

each of an area of the first surface and an area of the second surface is smaller than an area of the third surface, and

an area of the fifth surface is larger than an area of the third surface.

10. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the first substrate further comprises an IC chip,

the light-emitting element and the light guide are disposed between the IC chip and the glass substrate in the second direction.

11. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the light-emitting module further comprises a plurality of light-emitting elements including the light-emitting element,

the light-emitting elements are arranged at intervals in the first direction, and

the third surface faces the light-emitting elements in the second direction.
