Abstract

A pharmacy kit is managed by defining multiple rules for determining whether a segment of a pharmacy kit is satisfactorily stocked, selecting at least one rule among the multiple rules according to a kit stocking contingency, an prompting a user to stock the segment of the pharmacy kit according to the selected at least one rule.

Claims (41)

1. A method for associating a plurality of pharmacy items with an identical pharmacy item attribute, the method comprising:

causing an antenna coupled to an enclosure to emit a radio signal at least within the enclosure;

receiving, in response to the antenna emitting the radio signal, a plurality of unique identifiers corresponding to a plurality of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags located within the enclosure, the plurality of RFID tags coupled to a plurality of pharmacy item containers configured to store different groups of the same pharmacy item,

wherein a particular RFID tag of the plurality of RFID tags is coupled to a particular pharmacy item container of the plurality of pharmacy item containers and the particular pharmacy item container is configured to store one group of the different groups of the same pharmacy item, and

wherein a particular unique identifier of the plurality of unique identifiers uniquely identifies the particular RFID tag from other RFID tags of the plurality of RFID tags; and

in response to said receiving the plurality of unique identifiers corresponding to the plurality of RFID tags located within the enclosure, creating multiple associations between an identical pharmacy item attribute and the plurality of unique identifiers in a database such that each of the plurality of unique identifiers is associated with the identical pharmacy item attribute in the database.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the particular RFID tag comprises an adhesive portion for affixing the particular RFID tag to the particular pharmacy item container, wherein the adhesive portion is formed of a transparent material that enables visualization of label information of the particular pharmacy item container when the adhesive portion is located on top of the label information.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said creating the association between the identical pharmacy item attribute and each of the plurality of unique identifiers in the database comprises:

identifying entries of the database based at least in part on the plurality of unique identifiers; and

updating at least some of the identified entries to include the identical pharmacy item attribute or an indication of the identical pharmacy item attribute.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identical pharmacy item attribute comprises one or more of a drug name, an expiration date, an NDC number, or a lot number.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving user input comprising an indication of the identical pharmacy item attribute.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising causing a display to display results of said creating the multiple associations.

7. A system for associating a plurality of pharmacy items with an identical pharmacy item attribute, the system comprising:

a reading station comprising an enclosure and an antenna; and

one or more processors in communication with the reading station and configured to:

cause the antenna to emit a radio signal at least within the enclosure,

receive, in response to the antenna emitting the radio signal, a plurality of unique identifiers corresponding to a plurality of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags located within the enclosure, the plurality of RFID tags coupled to a plurality of pharmacy item containers configured to store different groups of the same pharmacy item,

wherein a particular RFID tag of the plurality of RFID tags is coupled to a particular pharmacy item container of the plurality of pharmacy item containers and the particular pharmacy item container is configured to store one group of the different groups of the same pharmacy item, and

wherein a particular unique identifier of the plurality of unique identifiers uniquely identifies the particular RFID tag from other RFID tags of the plurality of RFID tags, and

in response to receiving the plurality of unique identifiers corresponding to the plurality of RFID tags located within the enclosure, create multiple associations between an identical pharmacy item attribute and the plurality of unique identifiers in a database such that each of the plurality of unique identifiers is associated with the identical pharmacy item attribute in the database.

The system of claim 7 , wherein the particular RFID tag comprises an adhesive portion for affixing the particular RFID tag to the particular pharmacy item container, wherein the adhesive portion is formed of a transparent material that enables visualization of label information of the particular pharmacy item container when the adhesive portion is located on top of the label information.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein to create the multiple associations between the pharmacy item attribute and the plurality of unique identifiers in the database the one or more processors are further configured to:

identify entries of the database based at least in part on the plurality of unique identifiers; and

update at least some of the identified entries to include the identical pharmacy item attribute or an indication of the identical pharmacy item attribute.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the identical pharmacy item attribute comprises one or more of a drug name, an expiration date, an NDC number, or a lot number.

11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to receive user input comprising an indication of the identical pharmacy item attribute.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to cause a display to display results of the multiple associations.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by one or more processors cause the one or more processors to:

cause an antenna coupled to an enclosure to emit a radio signal at least within the enclosure;

receive, in response to the antenna emitting the radio signal, a plurality of unique identifiers corresponding to a plurality of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags located within the enclosure, the plurality of RFID tags coupled to a plurality of pharmacy item containers configured to store different groups of the same pharmacy item,

wherein a particular RFID tag of the plurality of RFID tags is coupled to a particular pharmacy item container of the plurality of pharmacy item containers and the particular pharmacy item container is configured to store one group of the different groups of the same pharmacy item, and

wherein a particular unique identifier of the plurality of unique identifiers uniquely identifies the particular RFID tag from other RFID tags of the plurality of RFID tags; and

in response to receiving the plurality of unique identifiers corresponding to the plurality of RFID tags located within the enclosure, create multiple associations between an identical pharmacy item attribute and the plurality of unique identifiers in a database such that each of the plurality of unique identifiers is associated with the identical pharmacy item attribute in the database.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the particular RFID tag comprises an adhesive portion for affixing the particular RFID tag to the particular pharmacy item container, wherein the adhesive portion is formed of a transparent material that enables visualization of label information of the particular pharmacy item container when the adhesive portion is located on top of the label information.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein to create the multiple associations between the identical pharmacy item attribute and the plurality of unique identifiers in the database, the computer-executable instructions, when executed, further cause the one or more processors to:

identify entries of the database based at least in part on the plurality of unique identifiers; and

update at least some of the identified entries to include the identical pharmacy item attribute or an indication of the identical pharmacy item attribute.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the identical pharmacy item attribute comprises one or more of a drug name, an expiration date, an NDC number, or a lot number.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer-executable instructions, when executed, further cause the one or more processors to receive user input comprising an indication of the identical pharmacy item attribute.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer-executable instructions, when executed, further cause the one or more processors to cause a display to display results of the multiple associations.
