Abstract

Methods, systems, and products illuminate display devices. An image is injected into a waveguide. The image propagates at total internal reflectance within the waveguide. A frustrator withdraws a frustrated image from the waveguide, and the frustrated image may be displayed to a viewer.

Claims (32)

1. A display device, comprising:

a waveguide;

a first projector projecting an image into at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide;

a second projector projecting the image into the at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide;

a frustrator applied to the waveguide, the frustrator withdrawing an aligned image from the waveguide.

2. The display device of claim 1 , further comprising a battery providing an electrical power.

3. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the frustrator is a coating applied to the waveguide.

4. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the frustrator is a film applied to the waveguide.

5. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the frustrator is a cladding applied to the waveguide.

6. The display device of claim 1 , further comprising a diffuser for diffusing the aligned image.

7. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the frustrator further magnifies the aligned image.

8. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the first projector projects the image into a first tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide, and the second projector projects the image into a second tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide.

9. A method, comprising:

projecting, by a first projector of a device comprising a processor, an image into at least one tapered cross-section of a waveguide;

projecting, by a second projector of the device, the image into the at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide;

and

withdrawing, by a frustrator of the device, an aligned image from the waveguide, wherein the aligned image comprises an optical alignment of the image projected from the first projector and the image projected from the second projector.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the projecting, by the first projector, comprises projecting the image into a first tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section at a first side of the waveguide, and the projecting, by the second projector, comprises projecting the image into a second tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section at the first side of the waveguide.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the projecting, by the first projector, comprises projecting the image into a first tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section at a first side of the waveguide, and the projecting, by the second projector, comprises projecting the image into a second tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section at a second side of the waveguide.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the frustrator comprises a film applied to the waveguide.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the frustrator comprises a coating applied to the waveguide.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the projecting, by the first projector, comprises projecting the image into a first tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide, and the projecting, by the second projector, comprises projecting the image into a second tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide, wherein the first tapered cross-section has a first cross-sectional area that is different from a second cross-sectional area of the second tapered cross-section.

15. The method of claim 9 , further comprising diffusing, by a diffuser of the device, the aligned image.

16. The method of claim 9 , further comprising magnifying, by the frustrator, the aligned image.

17. A method, comprising:

projecting, by a first projector of a watch, an image into at least one tapered cross-section of a waveguide;

projecting, by a second projector of the watch, the image from a second projector into the at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide;

and

withdrawing, by a frustrator of the watch, an aligned image from the waveguide, wherein the aligned image comprises an optical alignment of the image projected from the first projector and the image projected from the second projector.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the projecting, by the first projector, comprises projecting the image into a first tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section at a first side of the waveguide, and the projecting, by the second projector, comprises projecting the image into a second tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section at the first side of the waveguide.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein the projecting, by the first projector, comprises projecting the image into a first tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section at a first side of the waveguide, and the projecting, by the second projector, comprises projecting the image into a second tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section at a second side of the waveguide.

20. The method of claim 17 , wherein the projecting, by the first projector, comprises projecting the image into a first tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide, and the projecting, by the second projector, comprises projecting the image into a second tapered cross-section of the at least one tapered cross-section of the waveguide, wherein the first tapered cross-section has a first cross-sectional area that is different from a second cross-sectional area of the second tapered cross-section.
