Abstract

Various devices and techniques related to valve actuation conversion kits are generally described. In various examples, conversion kits may include a bonnet component. In some examples, the conversion kits may include at least one attachment component effective to couple the bonnet component to a body or bonnet of a legacy valve. Coupling the bonnet component to the body or bonnet of the valve may form a cavity enclosed by the bonnet component and the body or bonnet of the valve. A portion of a stem of the valve may be disposed within the cavity when the bonnet component is coupled to the body or bonnet of the valve.

Claims (26)

1. A magnetic valve actuation conversion kit, comprising:

a bonnet component;

at least one attachment component effective to couple the bonnet component to a valve, wherein coupling of the bonnet component to the valve forms a cavity enclosed by the bonnet component and the valve, wherein a portion of a stem of the valve is disposed within the cavity when the bonnet component is coupled to the valve, wherein the bonnet component is effective to couple to the valve such that the bonnet component fits over a stem seal of an existing bonnet of the valve;

an internal actuation member having a ferromagnetic portion comprising an impermanent or permanent magnet, the internal actuation member effective to operatively couple to at least the portion of the stem disposed within the cavity; and

an external actuator effective to operatively couple to an exterior of the bonnet component, the external actuator comprising:

a first magnetic pole section; and

a second magnetic pole section; and

wherein, when the external actuator is operatively coupled to the exterior of the bonnet component and the internal actuation member is operatively coupled to at least the portion of the stem, movement of the external actuator is effective to exert a first force on the internal actuation member, and wherein the internal actuation member is effective to transmit a second force to the stem.

The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 1 , further comprising a seal component, wherein the coupling of the bonnet component to the valve with the at least one attachment component is effective to compress the seal component to seal the cavity from the exterior of the bonnet component.

The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 1 , wherein the at least one attachment component comprises a bolt comprising a first end, a second end, and a portion extending between the first end and the second end, wherein the first end and the second end are effective to be bolted to the bonnet component such that the portion extending between the first end and the second end extends around the valve and couples the bonnet component to the valve.

4. The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 1 , wherein the at least one attachment component comprises a metal saddle secured to the valve using at least one bolt.

5. The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 1 , further comprising a gear mechanism coupled to the stem and enclosed within the cavity, wherein the gear mechanism is effective to increase the second force relative to the first force.

6. The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 5 , wherein the gear mechanism comprises a worm gear.

7. The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 1 , further comprising a bleed line effective to reduce pressure within the cavity.

8. The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 1 , wherein an end portion of the portion of the stem disposed within the cavity is sized and shaped so as to interface with a cheater handle.

9. The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 1 , further comprising a gauge effective to measure pressure within the cavity when the bonnet component is coupled to the valve.

10. A magnetic valve actuation conversion kit, comprising:

a bonnet component;

at least one attachment component effective to couple the bonnet component to a valve, wherein coupling of the bonnet component to the valve forms a cavity enclosed by the bonnet component and the valve, wherein a portion of a stem of the valve is disposed within the cavity when the bonnet component is coupled to the valve, wherein the bonnet component is effective to couple to the valve such that the bonnet component fits over a stem seal of an existing bonnet of the valve;

an internal actuation member having a ferromagnetic portion comprising an impermanent or permanent magnet, the internal actuation member effective to operatively couple to at least a portion of the stem disposed within the cavity; and

an external actuator effective to operatively couple to an exterior of the bonnet component, the external actuator comprising at least one external magnet effective to operatively couple to the internal actuation member when the external actuator is operatively coupled to the exterior of the bonnet component and the internal actuation member is operatively coupled to at least the portion of the stem disposed within the cavity.

The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 10 , further comprising a seal component, wherein the coupling of the bonnet component to the valve with the at least one attachment component is effective to compress the seal component to seal the cavity from the exterior of the bonnet component.

The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 10 , wherein the at least one attachment component comprises a bolt comprising a first end, a second end, and a portion extending between the first end and the second end, wherein the first end and the second end are effective to be bolted to the bonnet component such that the portion extending between the first end and the second end extends around the valve and couples the bonnet component to the valve.

13. The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 10 , wherein the at least one attachment component comprises a metal saddle secured to the valve using at least one bolt.

14. The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 10 , wherein an end portion of the portion of the stem disposed within the cavity is sized and shaped so as to interface with a cheater handle.

15. The magnetic valve actuation conversion kit of claim 10 , further comprising a gauge effective to measure pressure within the cavity when the bonnet component is coupled to the valve.
