Abstract

A light-guiding device includes a pair of light-guiding portions, a pair of light-incident portions that causes image light to be incident on the pair of light-guiding portions respectively, and a pair of light-emitting portions that emit image light, guided by the pair of light-guiding portions, to outside respectively, in which a pair of optical members including the pair of light-guiding portions are coupled by a central member having light transmissivity, and separate overcoat layers are provided at the optical member on one side and at the optical member on another side with respect to an approximate center of the central member.

Claims (28)

1. A light-guiding device comprising:

a first light-guiding portion comprising a first incident portion and a first emitting portion, the first incident portion being configured to cause a first image light to be incident on the first light-guiding portion, and the first emitting portion being configured to emit the first image light from the first light-guiding portion to outside;

a second light-guiding portion that includes a second incident portion and a second emitting portion, the second incident portion being configured to cause a second image light to be incident on the second light-guiding portion, the second emitting portion being configured to emit the second image light from the second light-guiding portion to outside; and

a central member that includes a first light-transmissive portion and a second light-transmissive portion, the first light-transmissive portion being coupled with the first guiding member, the second light-transmissive portion being coupled with the second guiding member;

a first overcoat layer that covers the first light-guiding portion and the first light-transmissive portion; and

a second overcoat layer that covers the second light-guiding portion and the second light-transmissive portion, wherein

the central member includes a region being in between the first light-transmissive portion and the second light-transmissive portion, the region being exposed from the first overcoat layer and the second overcoat layer.

2. The light-guiding device according to claim 1 , wherein

a positioning structure is provided at the exposed region, and the first overcoat layer and the second overcoat layer are formed in a manner to avoid a positioning location of the positioning structure.

3. The light-guiding device according to claim 1 , wherein

a surface scattering layer or a surface absorption layer is formed at a surface of the exposed region.

4. The light-guiding device according to claim 1 , wherein

the first light-guiding portion and the second light-guiding portion include an outward step provided in a concave shape at a tip end side away from the central member, respectively.

5. The light-guiding device according to claim 4 , wherein

the first light-guiding portion and the second light-guiding portion include the outward step at a front side and a back side, respectively.

6. A virtual image display apparatus comprising:

a light-guiding device according to claim 1 ;

a first image forming body configured to form the first image light that is to be guided to the first light-guiding portion;

a second image forming body configured to form the second image light that is to be guided to the second light-guiding portion;

a first half mirror that reflects the first image light to a first exit pupil and is formed between the first light-guiding portion and the central member; and

a second half mirror that reflects the first image light to a second exit pupil and is formed between the second light-guiding portion and the central member.

7. A method for manufacturing a light-guiding device including a first light-guiding portion, a second light-guiding portion, and a central member, the central member including a first light-transmissive portion being coupled with the first guiding member, a second light-transmissive portion being coupled with the second light-guiding member, and a region being in between the first light-transmissive portion and the second light-transmissive portion, the method comprising:

covering a first overcoat layer that is provided at the first light-guiding portion and the first light-transmissive portion;

covering a second overcoat layer that is provided at the second light-guiding portion and the second light-transmissive portion;

exposing the region from the first overcoat layer and the second overcoat layer.

8. The method for manufacturing a light-guiding device according to claim 7 , further comprising:

forming a positioning structure at the exposed region, and

forming the first overcoat layer and the second overcoat layer in a manner to avoid the positioning structure.
