Abstract

An integrated security system is described that integrates broadband and mobile access and control with conventional security systems and premise devices to provide a tri-mode security network (broadband, cellular/GSM, POTS access) that enables users to remotely stay connected to their premises. The integrated security system, while delivering remote premise monitoring and control functionality to conventional monitored premise protection, complements existing premise protection equipment. The integrated security system integrates into the premise network and couples wirelessly with the conventional security panel, enabling broadband access to premise security systems. Automation devices (cameras, lamp modules, thermostats, etc.) can be added, enabling users to remotely see live video and/or pictures and control home devices via their personal web portal or webpage, mobile phone, and/or other remote client device. Users can also receive notifications via email or text message when happenings occur, or do not occur, in their home.

Claims (59)

1. A method comprising:

determining, by a gateway device located at a premises, data associated with a computing device located at the premises;

sending, by the gateway device, to a premises system located at the premises, and based on the data associated with the computing device, a message;

determining, based on a response to the message, an association of the computing device and the premises system; and

sending, to a device located external to the premises and based on the determining the association, premises data associated with the computing device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein sending the message comprises sending the message using a protocol associated with the computing device, wherein the message mimics communication from the computing device to the premises system.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the message indicates that the computing device sent the message.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device located external to the premises comprises one or more of a server, a user device, a mobile device, or a phone, and wherein the computing device comprises one or more of a security device or an automation device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining data associated with the computing device comprises detecting a wireless transmission from the computing device and determining, based on the wireless transmission, the data associated with the computing device.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting, by the gateway device, data associated with an additional computing device;

sending, to the premises system and based on the data associated with the additional computing device, an additional message; and

determining, based on a determination of a failure to receive a response to the additional message, that the additional computing device is not associated with the premises system.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising storing data indicative of the association of the computing device and the premises system and sending, to the device located external to the premises, the data indicative of the association.

8. A method comprising:

determining, by a gateway device located at a premises, data associated with a computing device located at the premises;

sending, by the gateway device, to a premises system located at the premises, and based on the data associated with the computing device, a message;

determining, based on a response to the message, an association of the computing device and the premises system;

storing data indicative of the association of the computing device and the premises system; and

sending, to a device located external to the premises, the data indicative of the association.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein sending the message comprises sending the message using a protocol associated with the computing device, wherein the message mimics communication from the computing device to the premises system.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the message indicates that the computing device sent the message.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the device comprises one or more of a server, a user device, a mobile device, or a phone, and wherein the computing device comprises one or more of a security device or an automation device.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein determining data associated with the computing device comprises detecting a wireless transmission from the computing device and determining, based on the wireless transmission, the data associated with the computing device.

13. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

detecting, by the gateway device, data associated with an additional computing device;

sending, to the premises system and based on the data associated with the additional computing device, an additional message; and

determining, based on a determination of a failure to receive a response to the additional message, that the additional computing device is not associated with the premises system.

14. A device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to:

determine data associated with a computing device located at a premises;

send, to a premises system located at the premises and based on the data associated with the computing device, a message;

determine, based on a response to the message, an association of the computing device and the premises system; and

send, to a device located external to the premises and based on the determination of the association, premises data associated with the computing device.

15. The device of claim 14 , wherein the instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to send the message comprises instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to send the message using a protocol associated with the computing device, wherein the message mimics communication from the computing device to the premises system.

16. The device of claim 14 , wherein the message indicates that the computing device sent the message.

17. The device of claim 14 , wherein the instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to determine data associated with the computing device comprises instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to detect a wireless transmission from the computing device and determine, based on the wireless transmission, the data associated with the computing device.

18. The device of claim 14 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the device to:

detect data associated with an additional computing device;

send, to the premises system and based on the data associated with the additional computing device, an additional message; and

determine, based on a determination of a failure to receive a response to the additional message, that the additional computing device is not associated with the premises system.

19. The device of claim 14 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the device to store data indicative of the association of the computing device and the premises system and send, to the device located external to the premises, the data indicative of the association.

20. A device comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to:

determine data associated with a computing device located at a premises;

send, to a premises system located at the premises and based on the data associated with the computing device, a message;

determine, based on a response to the message, an association of the computing device and the premises system;

store data indicative of the association of the computing device and the premises system; and

send, to a device located external to the premises, the data indicative of the association.

21. The device of claim 20 , wherein the instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to send the message comprises instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to send the message using a protocol associated with the computing device, wherein the message mimics communication from the computing device to the premises system.

22. The device of claim 20 , wherein the message indicates that the computing device sent the message.

23. The device of claim 20 , wherein the device located external to the premises comprises one or more of a server, a user device, a mobile device, or a phone, and wherein the computing device comprises one or more of a security device or an automation device.
