Abstract

Systems and methods for rendering spatial audio in accordance with embodiments of the invention are illustrated. One embodiment includes a spatial audio system, including a primary network connected speaker, including a plurality of sets of drivers, where each set of drivers is oriented in a different direction, a processor system, memory containing an audio player application, wherein the audio player application configures the processor system to obtain an audio source stream from an audio source via the network interface, spatially encode the audio source, decode the spatially encoded audio source to obtain driver inputs for the individual drivers in the plurality of sets of drivers, where the driver inputs cause the drivers to generate directional audio.

Claims (23)

1. A network connected speaker, comprising:

a plurality of horns, where each of the horns in the plurality of horns is fitted with a plurality of drivers; and

a pair of opposing, coaxial woofers;

where the pluralities of drivers are capable of rendering spatial audio; and

where at least one back volume for the plurality of drivers is contained between the three horns.

2. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein each plurality of drivers comprises a tweeter and a mid.

3. The network connected speaker of claim 2 , wherein the tweeter and mid are configured to be coaxial and to fire in the same direction.

4. The network connected speaker of claim 2 , wherein the tweeter is located over the mid relative to the center of the network connected speaker.

5. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , where one of the pair of woofers comprises a channel through the center of the woofer.

6. The network connected speaker of claim 5 , where the channel contains a stem.

7. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein the woofers comprise diaphragms which comprise at least one carbon fiber weave.

8. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of horns are coplanar, and wherein a first woofer in the pair of woofers is configured to fire perpendicularly to the plane of horns in a positive direction, and a second woofer in the pair of woofers is configured to fire perpendicularly to the plane of horns in a negative direction.

9. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of horns are configured in a ring.

10. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of horns comprises three horns.

11. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of horns are regularly spaced.

12. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein the horns form a single component.

13. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of horns forms a seal between two covers.

14. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , further comprising a stem configured to be connected to a stand.

15. The network connected speaker of claim 14 , wherein the stem and stand are configured to be connected using a bayonet locking system.

16. The network connected speaker of claim 14 , wherein the stem comprises a ring capable of providing playback control signals to the network connected speaker.

17. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein the network connected speaker is configured to be hung from a ceiling.

18. The network connected speaker of claim 1 , wherein the network connected speaker further comprises a transmitter capable of communicating with a second network connected speaker.

19. The network connected speaker of claim 18 , wherein the network connected speaker is capable of synchronously rendering spatial audio in conjunction with the second network connected speaker.
