Abstract

Methods and apparatuses for transmitting and receiving at least one Downlink Control Information (DCI) in a communication system supporting Carrier Aggregation (CA) are provided. The method for receiving includes receiving information representative of presence of carrier indicator by higher layer signaling from a Node B; receiving information representative of at least one cell indicator by higher layer signaling from the Node B; defining an UE specific search space based on aggregation level, an UE ID, and at least one carrier indicator value, where the UE specific search space includes a set of Physical Downlink Control CHannel (PDCCH) candidates based on the aggregation level; decoding at least one PDCCH including at least one DCI respectively by the UE ID; and acquiring the at least one DCI, wherein the at least one carrier indicator value is based on the at least one cell indicator.

Claims (40)

1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) for acquiring downlink control information in order to enable communication over a plurality of cells in a communication system, the method comprising:

identifying whether a carrier indicator is present in a specific downlink control information format based on radio resource control (RRC) signaling, wherein the specific downlink control information format is predefined within multiple downlink control information formats; and

monitoring a downlink control channel for the specific downlink control information format in a dedicated search space, based on the identification for a presence of the carrier indicator,

wherein the presence of the carrier indicator in the specific downlink control information format is UE-specific.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the carrier indicator is excluded from a downlink control information format associated with the downlink control channel on a common search space in a control region defined based on control channel information on an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) symbol and frequency resources.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein a cell for a downlink control channel transmission is configured by the RRC signaling.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein a cell identifier for a cell is configured by the RRC signaling.

5. A method performed by a base station for transmitting downlink control information to one user equipment (UE) in order to enable communication over a plurality of cells in a communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting a radio resource control (RRC) signaling indicating whether a carrier indicator is present in a specific downlink control information format, wherein the specific downlink control information format is predefined within multiple downlink control information formats; and

transmitting the downlink control information corresponding to the specific downlink control information format on a downlink control channel in a dedicated search space,

wherein a presence of the carrier indicator in the specific downlink control information format is UE-specific.

The method of claim 5 , wherein the carrier indicator is excluded from a downlink control information format associated with the downlink control channel on a common search space in a control region corresponding to control channel information on an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) symbol and frequency resources.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein information on a cell for a downlink control channel transmission is transmitted via the RRC signaling.

8. The method of claim 5 , wherein a cell identifier for a cell is transmitted via the RRC signaling.

9. A user equipment (UE) for acquiring downlink control information in order to enable communication over a plurality of cells in a communication system, the UE comprising:

a transceiver; and

a processor coupled with the transceiver and configured to:

identify whether a carrier indicator is present in a specific downlink control information format based on radio resource control (RRC) signaling, wherein the specific downlink control information format is predefined within multiple downlink control information formats, and

monitor a downlink control channel for the specific downlink control information format in a dedicated search space, based on the identification for a presence of the carrier indicator,

wherein the presence of the carrier indicator in the specific downlink control information format is UE-specific.

The UE of claim 9 , wherein the carrier indicator is excluded from a downlink control information format associated with the downlink control channel on a common search space in a control region defined based on control channel information on an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) symbol and frequency resources.

11. The UE of claim 9 , wherein a cell for a downlink control channel transmission is configured by the RRC signaling.

12. The UE of claim 9 , wherein a cell identifier for a cell is configured by the RRC signaling.

13. A base station for transmitting downlink control information to one user equipment (UE) in order to enable communication over a plurality of cells in a communication system, the base station comprising:

a transceiver; and

a processor coupled with the transceiver and configured to:

transmit radio resource control (RRC) signaling indicating whether a carrier indicator is present in a specific downlink control information format, wherein the specific downlink control information format is predefined within multiple downlink control information formats, and

transmit the downlink control information corresponding to the specific downlink control information format on a downlink control channel in a dedicated search space,

wherein a presence of the carrier indicator in the specific downlink control information format is UE-specific.

The base station of claim 13 , wherein the carrier indicator is excluded from a downlink control information format associated with the downlink control channel on a common search space in a control region corresponding to control channel information on an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) symbol and frequency resources.

15. The base station of claim 13 , wherein information on a cell for a downlink control channel transmission is transmitted via the RRC signaling.

16. The base station of claim 13 , wherein a cell identifier for a cell is transmitted via the RRC signaling.

17. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein a downlink control channel format to be used is configured.

18. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

configuring a downlink control information format to be used.

19. The UE of claim 9 ,

wherein a downlink control channel format to be used is configured.

20. The base station of claim 13 ,

wherein the processor is further configured to configure a downlink control information format to be used.
