Abstract

Generating a compliance framework. The compliance framework facilitates an organization's compliance with multiple authority documents by providing efficient methodologies and refinements to existing technologies, such as providing hierarchical fidelity to the original authority document; separating auditable citations from their context (e.g., prepositions and or informational citations); asset focused citations; SNED and Live values, among others.

Claims (61)

1. A computer-implemented method in a computing system comprising:

by the computing system, accessing a distinguished compliance requirement expressed in a distinguished authority documents;

by the computing system, creating a distinguished requirement identifier identifying the distinguished compliance requirement;

by the computing system, identifying a noun-verb pair used to express the distinguished compliance requirement in the distinguished authority documents;

by the computing system, looking up the noun of the identified noun-verb pair in a dictionary to determine a noun identifier attributed by the dictionary to the noun of the identified noun-verb pair;

by the computing system, looking up the verb of the identified noun-verb pair in a dictionary to determine a verb identifier attributed by the dictionary to the noun of the identified noun-verb pair;

by the computing system, among a plurality of groups of noun identifiers specified by a noun equivalency resource, selecting at least one group of noun identifiers, each group of noun identifiers identified by the noun equivalency resource having been determined to be equivalent;

by the computing system, among a plurality of groups of verb identifiers specified by a verb equivalency resource, selecting at least one group of verb identifiers, each group of verb identifiers identified by the verb equivalency resource having been determined to be equivalent by the computing system, unioning the selected groups of noun identifiers;

by the computing system, unioning the selected groups of verb identifiers;

by the computing system, in a first index covering the set of authority documents—the index listing, for each of a plurality of noun identifiers, requirement identifiers of any compliance requirements expressed by one of the authority documents of the set of authority documents previously determined to contain the noun identified by the noun identifier in its noun-verb pair—selecting any requirement identifiers listed for any of the unioned noun identifiers;

by the computing system, in a second index covering the set of authority documents—the index listing, for each of a plurality of verb identifiers, requirement identifiers of any compliance requirements expressed by one of the authority documents of the set of authority documents previously determined to contain the verb identified by the verb identifier in its noun-verb pair—selecting any requirement identifiers listed for any of the unioned verb identifiers;

by the computing system, intersecting the requirement identifiers selected in the first index with the requirement identifiers selected in the second index; and

by the computing system, storing an indication that the compliance requirements identified by the intersected requirement identifiers and the distinguished requirement identifier are equivalent.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a request to perform an audit across the authority documents of the set; and

in response to the receiving, posing only a single audit question corresponding to the requirements indicated by the stored indication to be equivalent.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

receiving a response to the posed audit question; and

storing an indication of the response with respect to all of the requirements indicated by the stored indication to be equivalent.

4. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having contents configured to cause computing system to perform a method, the method comprising:

by the computing system, accessing a distinguished compliance requirement expressed in a distinguished authority documents;

by the computing system, creating a distinguished requirement identifier identifying the distinguished compliance requirement;

by the computing system, identifying a noun-verb pair used to express the distinguished compliance requirement in the distinguished authority documents;

by the computing system, looking up the noun of the identified noun-verb pair in a dictionary to determine a noun identifier attributed by the dictionary to the noun of the identified noun-verb pair;

by the computing system, looking up the verb of the identified noun-verb pair in a dictionary to determine a verb identifier attributed by the dictionary to the noun of the identified noun-verb pair;

by the computing system, among a plurality of groups of noun identifiers specified by a noun equivalency resource, selecting at least one group of noun identifiers, each group of noun identifiers identified by the noun equivalency resource having been determined to be equivalent;

by the computing system, among a plurality of groups of verb identifiers specified by a verb equivalency resource, selecting at least one group of verb identifiers, each group of verb identifiers identified by the verb equivalency resource having been determined to be equivalent;

by the computing system, unioning the selected groups of noun identifiers;

by the computing system, unioning the selected groups of verb identifiers;

by the computing system, in a first index covering the set of authority documents—the index listing, for each of a plurality of noun identifiers, requirement identifiers of any compliance requirements expressed by one of the authority documents of the set of authority documents previously determined to contain the noun identified by the noun identifier in its noun-verb pair—selecting any requirement identifiers listed for any of the unioned noun identifiers;

by the computing system, in a second index covering the set of authority documents—the index listing, for each of a plurality of verb identifiers, requirement identifiers of any compliance requirements expressed by one of the authority documents of the set of authority documents previously determined to contain the verb identified by the verb identifier in its noun-verb pair—selecting any requirement identifiers listed for any of the unioned verb identifiers;

by the computing system, intersecting the requirement identifiers selected in the first index with the requirement identifiers selected in the second index; and

by the computing system, storing an indication that the compliance requirements identified by the intersected requirement identifiers and the distinguished requirement identifier are equivalent.

5. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 4 , the method further comprising:

receiving a request to perform an audit across the authority documents of the set; and

in response to the receiving, posing only a single audit question corresponding to the requirements indicated by the stored indication to be equivalent.

6. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 5 , the method further comprising:

receiving a response to the posed audit question; and

storing an indication of the response with respect to all of the requirements indicated by the stored indication to be equivalent.

7. A computing system comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory having contents that, when executed by at least one of the one or more processors, result in the performance of a method, the method comprising:

accessing a distinguished compliance requirement expressed in a distinguished authority documents;

creating a distinguished requirement identifier identifying the distinguished compliance requirement;

identifying a noun-verb pair used to express the distinguished compliance requirement in the distinguished authority documents;

looking up the noun of the identified noun-verb pair in a dictionary to determine a noun identifier attributed by the dictionary to the noun of the identified noun-verb pair;

looking up the verb of the identified noun-verb pair in a dictionary to determine a verb identifier attributed by the dictionary to the noun of the identified noun-verb pair;

among a plurality of groups of noun identifiers specified by a noun equivalency resource, selecting at least one group of noun identifiers, each group of noun identifiers identified by the noun equivalency resource having been determined to be equivalent;

among a plurality of groups of verb identifiers specified by a verb equivalency resource, selecting at least one group of verb identifiers, each group of verb identifiers identified by the verb equivalency resource having been determined to be equivalent;

unioning the selected groups of noun identifiers;

unioning the selected groups of verb identifiers;

in a first index covering the set of authority documents—the index listing, for each of a plurality of noun identifiers, requirement identifiers of any compliance requirements expressed by one of the authority documents of the set of authority documents previously determined to contain the noun identified by the noun identifier in its noun-verb pair—selecting any requirement identifiers listed for any of the unioned noun identifiers;

in a second index covering the set of authority documents—the index listing, for each of a plurality of verb identifiers, requirement identifiers of any compliance requirements expressed by one of the authority documents of the set of authority documents previously determined to contain the verb identified by the verb identifier in its noun-verb pair—selecting any requirement identifiers listed for any of the unioned verb identifiers;

intersecting the requirement identifiers selected in the first index with the requirement identifiers selected in the second index; and

storing an indication that the compliance requirements identified by the intersected requirement identifiers and the distinguished requirement identifier are equivalent.

8. The computing system of claim 7 , the method further comprising:

receiving a request to perform an audit across the authority documents of the set; and

in response to the receiving, posing only a single audit question corresponding to the requirements indicated by the stored indication to be equivalent.

9. The computing system of claim 8 , the method further comprising:

receiving a response to the posed audit question; and

storing an indication of the response with respect to all of the requirements indicated by the stored indication to be equivalent.
