Abstract

Disclosed herein are patient-turning assemblies including a patient-turning assembly for turning a patient, which patient-turning assembly may include: a sling having: a first sling portion having a handle; and a second sling portion extending from the first sling portion; a sleeve fixedly coupled to the second sling portion; a channel disposed between the sleeve and the second sling portion; and a cushion capable of either ingress into or egress from the channel, or both.

Claims (48)

1. A method of turning a patient, comprising:

providing a patient-turning assembly, comprising:

a flexible sling having:

a first sling portion having a first lower surface, a first upper surface, and side edge; and

a second sling portion with a second lower surface and a second upper surface; and

a strap having:

a first strap portion;

a second strap portion extending from the first strap portion;

a first strap end portion; and

a second strap end portion;

laying the patient on the first upper surface and the first strap portion;

disposing the second sling portion over the patient;

pulling the first strap end portion in a first direction to push the first strap portion, the first lower surface, and the first upper surface against the patient; and

turning the patient onto the second sling portion and the second strap portion while pulling the first strap portion in the first direction.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient-turning assembly additionally comprises:

a flexible sleeve fixedly coupled to the second upper surface; and

a cushion disposed between at least part of the second upper surface and at least a portion of the flexible sleeve.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient-turning assembly additionally comprises a handle coupled to the side edge of the flexible sleeve.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first strap portion is removably coupled to the first lower surface.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the strap has a length longer than a width of the flexible sling.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second strap end portion includes a coupling means for coupling to the side edge of the first sling portion.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second strap end portion includes a hook for coupling to the side edge of the first sling portion.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising pulling the first strap end portion to cause the second strap end portion to pull the side edge of the first sling portion.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising pulling the first strap end portion to cause the strap to tighten around the sling and the patient.

10. A method of turning a patient, comprising;

providing a patient-turning assembly, comprising:

a flexible sling having:

a first sling portion having a first upper surface, a first lower surface, and side edge; and

a second sling portion with a second upper surface and a second lower surface; and

a flexible sleeve coupled to at least a portion of the second upper surface, wherein a cushion can be inserted between a portion of the flexible sleeve and a portion of the second upper surface; and

a strap having:

a first strap portion;

a second strap portion extending from the first strap portion;

a first strap end portion; and

a second strap end portion;

laying the patient on the first sling portion and the first strap portion;

disposing the flexible sleeve over the patient;

pulling the first strap end portion in a first direction to push the first strap portion, the first lower surface, and the first upper surface against the patient; and

turning the patient onto the flexible sleeve and the second strap portion while pulling the first strap portion in the first direction.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the flexible sleeve is fixedly coupled to the second sling portion and has an interior portion and at least one opening configured to receive a cushion.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the flexible sleeve has a maximum length greater than a maximum width of the second sling portion.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the flexible sleeve has an upper portion with an outer surface and an inner surface, and a cushion is capable of being disposed between at least part of the second upper surface of the second sling portion and the inner surface of the flexible sleeve.

14. The method of claim 10 , further comprising a handle coupled to the side edge of the flexible sleeve.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the first strap portion is removably coupled to the first lower surface.

16. The method of claim 10 , further comprising disposing a portion of the second strap portion over the patient.

17. The method of claim 10 , further comprising disposing a portion of the second strap portion over the patient while pulling the first strap end portion in the first direction.

18. The method of claim 10 , further comprising pulling the first strap end portion over the second sling portion.

19. The method of claim 10 , further comprising pulling the first strap end portion to cause the strap to tighten around the sling and the patient.
