Abstract

Data valuation techniques in a sensor data environment are provided. For example, a method obtains at least one sensor data element generated by at least one sensor associated with a set of one or more sensors operatively coupled to a gateway. At least one data valuation algorithm is applied to the at least one sensor data element to compute at least one value. The computed value is distributed for assignment to one or more of the gateway, the at least one sensor, and the at least one sensor data element.

obtaining at least one sensor data element generated by at least one sensor associated with a set of two or more sensors operatively coupled to a gateway;

applying at least one data valuation algorithm to the at least one sensor data element to compute at least one valuation of the at least one sensor data element for a given context;

assigning the at least one computed valuation to one or more of the gateway, the at least one sensor, and the at least one sensor data element;

modifying one or more transformations applied to the at least one sensor data element by at least one of the gateway and the at least one sensor based at least in part on the at least one computed valuation;

determining a gateway valuation for the gateway, the gateway valuation comprising a combination of the valuation of the at least one sensor data element and valuations of one or more other sensor data elements generated by one or more other sensors in the set of two or more sensors operatively coupled to the gateway; and

aggregating the gateway valuation for the gateway with one or more additional gateway valuations respectively associated with one or more additional gateways each coupled to an additional set of two or more sensors;

wherein the method is performed by at least one processing device comprising a processor and a memory.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising aggregating valuations respectively computed for sensor data elements generated by at least two sensors in the set of two or more sensors operatively coupled to the gateway.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one data valuation algorithm comprises a process for attributing at least one of a financial value and a non-financial value to the at least one sensor data element.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processing device performing the obtaining, applying and assigning steps is part of a computing device separate from the gateway.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the computing device is part of a cloud computing platform.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processing device performing the obtaining, applying and assigning steps is part of the gateway.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the gateway and the set of two or more sensors are part of an Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem.

8. An apparatus comprising:

at least one processor operatively coupled to at least one memory and configured to:

obtain at least one sensor data element generated by at least one sensor associated with a set of two or more sensors operatively coupled to a gateway;

apply at least one data valuation algorithm to the at least one sensor data element to compute at least one valuation of the at least one sensor data element for a given context;

assign the at least one computed valuation to one or more of the gateway, the at least one sensor, and the at least one sensor data element;

modify one or more transformations applied to the at least one sensor data element by at least one of the gateway and the at least one sensor based at least in part on the at least one computed valuation;

determine a gateway valuation for the gateway, the gateway valuation comprising a combination of the valuation of the at least one sensor data element and valuations of one or more other sensor data elements generated by one or more other sensors in the set of two or more sensors operatively coupled to the gateway; and

aggregate the gateway valuation for the gateway with one or more additional gateway valuations respectively associated with one or more additional gateways each coupled to an additional set of two or more sensors.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

aggregate valuations respectively computed for sensor data elements generated by at least two sensors in the set of two or more sensors operatively coupled to the gateway.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one data valuation algorithm comprises a process for attributing at least one of a financial value and a non-financial value to the at least one sensor data element.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor performing the obtaining, applying and assigning is part of a computing device separate from the gateway and wherein the computing device is part of a cloud computing platform.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the at least one processor performing the obtaining, applying and assigning steps is part of the gateway.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the gateway and the set of two or more sensors are part of an Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem.

14. An article of manufacture comprising a processor-readable non-transitory storage medium having encoded therein executable code of one or more software programs, wherein the one or more software programs when executed by at least one processing device implement the steps of:

obtaining at least one sensor data element generated by at least one sensor associated with a set of two or more sensors operatively coupled to a gateway;

applying at least one data valuation algorithm to the at least one sensor data element to compute at least one valuation of the at least one sensor data element for a given context;

assigning the at least one computed valuation to one or more of the gateway, the at least one sensor, and the at least one sensor data element;

modifying one or more transformations applied to the at least one sensor data element by at least one of the gateway and the at least one sensor based at least in part on the at least one computed valuation;

determining a gateway valuation for the gateway, the gateway valuation comprising a combination of the valuation of the at least one sensor data element and valuations of one or more other sensor data elements generated by one or more other sensors in the set of two or more sensors operatively coupled to the gateway; and

aggregating the gateway valuation for the gateway with one or more additional gateway valuations respectively associated with one or more additional gateways each coupled to an additional set of two or more sensors.

15. The article of manufacture of claim 14 , wherein the one or more software programs when executed by the at least one processing device is further configured to implement the step of:
