Abstract

Medical patient monitoring sensor devices including a disposable sensor assembly and a reusable pairing device are disclosed. The disposable sensor assembly can collect patient physiological data and provide power for the reusable pairing device. The reusable pairing device can establish wireless communication with a monitoring device. Once the reusable pairing device receives patient physiological data from the disposable sensor assembly, the reusable pairing device can wirelessly transmit the data to the computing device via the wireless communication.

Claims (50)

1. A patient monitoring system comprising:

a disposable noninvasive sensor assembly configured to collect physiological data from a patient, the physiological data indicative of a physiological condition of the patient, the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly comprising:

a dock comprising a flexible circuit comprising a plurality of first electrical contacts supported by a corresponding plurality of curved members;

a strap extending from a first edge of the dock and configured to wrap around a wrist of the patient and secure the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly through a loop on a second edge of the dock that is opposite to the first edge;

a cable extending from a third edge of the dock towards an elbow of a patient and loop back towards a hand of the patient while secured by a cable holder on the first edge, said cable comprising a sensor element configured to couple with a fingertip of the patient; and

a battery; and

a reusable transmitter assembly configured to secure with the dock, the reusable transmitter assembly comprising:

a plurality of second electrical contacts configured to engage the plurality of first electrical contacts and exert a downward force on the plurality of curved members responding to the securing of the reusable transmitter assembly with the dock, the downward force causing a plurality of tips of the flexible circuit to move distally away from the plurality of first electrical contacts;

a processor; and

a wireless communication module configured to establish a wireless communication with a patient monitor,

wherein the dock, the strap, and the cable of the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly are integrated in a unitary body.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the reusable transmitter assembly does not include a power source for providing power for the processor and the wireless communication module.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the reusable transmitter assembly receives power from the battery of the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the reusable transmitter assembly receives the physiological data from the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly, and wherein the physiological data is collected by the sensor element.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the processor is configured to process the physiological data received by the reusable transmitter assembly and generate physiological parameters configured to be displayed by the patient monitor.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the reusable transmitter assembly is configured to wirelessly transmit the physiological data to the patient monitor via the wireless communication, and wherein the reusable transmitter assembly is configured to store the physiological data for a predetermined period of time when the wireless communication is interrupted.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the dock comprises a flexible circuit comprising elongate members, wherein the flexible circuit comprises the plurality of first electrical contacts.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the elongate members are supported by the plurality of curved members, and wherein the plurality of curved members are configured to push the elongate members of the flexible circuit against the reusable transmitter assembly when the reusable transmitter assembly is secured to the dock.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the flexible circuit is configured to facilitate transmission of electronic signals between the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly and the reusable transmitter assembly via the plurality of second electrical contacts of the reusable transmitter assembly.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the flexible circuit is in contact with the battery such that the flexible circuit transmits power from the battery to the reusable transmitter assembly when the reusable transmitter assembly is secured with the dock.

11. A method for pairing a disposable noninvasive sensor assembly with a monitoring device using a reusable transmitter assembly, the method comprising:

removably securing the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly with the reusable transmitter assembly, the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly comprising a dock, a strap, a cable, and a battery, the dock comprising a flexible circuit comprising a plurality of first electrical contacts supported by corresponding plurality of curved members, the strap extending from a first edge of the dock and configured to wrap around a wrist of a patient and secure the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly through a loop on a second edge of the dock that is opposite of the first edge, the cable extending from a third edge of the dock towards an elbow of the patient and loop back towards a hand of the patient while secured by a cable holder on the first edge, the cable comprising a sensor element configured to couple with a fingertip of the patient, the reusable transmitter assembly comprising a plurality of second electrical contacts, a processor and a wireless communication module comprising a first antenna, the plurality of second electrical contacts configured to engage the plurality of first electrical contacts and exert a downward force on the plurality of curved members responsive to the securing of the reusable transmitter assembly with the dock, wherein the dock, the strap, and the cable of the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly are integrated in a unitary body;

receiving power from the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly to power the processor and the wireless communication module;

receiving data collected by the sensor element via the disposable noninvasive sensor assembly;

processing the data using the processor; and

wirelessly transmitting the processed data to a patient monitor via the wireless communication module.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wireless communication module further comprises a second antenna.

13. The method of claim 11 further comprising:

associating the reusable transmitter assembly with the patient monitor using at least a first wireless communication protocol via the wireless communication module; and

transmitting data to the patient monitor using at least a second wireless communication protocol via the wireless communication module.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the associating the reusable transmitter assembly with the patent monitor using at least the first wireless communication protocol comprises:

receiving a pairing signal from the patient monitor; and

transmitting an identification information to the patient monitor,
