Abstract

Systems, apparatuses, and methods are described which provide a camera system. A camera is in communication with a positioning device. The positioning device has a compass, gyroscope, and emits an infrared light beam. The camera has a sensor that receives reflected and/or scattered infrared light from a moving target. The camera changes its focus, zoom, and/or angle of a field of view of the camera based on information from its sensor, and gyroscope and compass information from the positioning device and/or camera.

Claims (22)

1. A system, comprising:

a camera that includes a sensor, wherein the camera is configured to change one or more of a focus, a zoom, and an angle of a field of view of the camera based on a signal received from the sensor; and

a positioning device that is not part of the camera, wherein the positioning device is configured to emit an infrared light that is reflected or scattered by a moving target, and wherein the sensor of the camera is configured to receive the reflected or scattered infrared light from the moving target, wherein:

the positioning device comprises a gyroscope, a compass, and a light source;

the positioning device is configured to send information based on signals from the gyroscope and the compass to the camera; and

the camera is configured to change one or more of the focus, the zoom, and the angle of the field of view of the camera based on the information from the gyroscope and the compass of the positioning device.

2. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the gyroscope or compass provides information with respect to a direction that the camera is facing to change one or more of the focus, the zoom, and the angle of the field of view of the camera.

3. The system according to claim 1 , wherein one or both of the gyroscope and compass is used to determine an angle of the camera to determine whether pictures being recorded or viewed need to be flipped.

4. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning device is in wireless communication with the camera.

5. The system according to claim 1 , wherein, when the positioning device is aimed at the moving target, the camera tracks the moving target.

6. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning device comprises a second sensor to receive the reflected or scattered light from the moving target.

7. The system according to claim 1 , wherein one or both of the positioning device and the camera are configured to receive the light that is reflected or scattered by the target and determine a position of the target.

8. The system according to claim 7 , wherein the positioning device is configured to send target position information to the camera.

9. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the camera is configured to use the target position information from the positioning device to change one or more of the focus, the zoom, and the angle of the field of view of the camera.

10. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning device is configured to receive the light that is reflected or scattered by the moving target and determine one or both of a movement direction and a speed of the target.

11. The system according to claim 10 , wherein the positioning device is configured to send one or both of target movement direction information and target speed information to the camera.

12. The system according to claim 11 , wherein the camera is configured to use one or both of the target movement direction information and the target speed information from the positioning device to change one or more of the focus, the zoom, and the angle of the field of view of the camera.

13. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the camera is configured to receive the light that is reflected or scattered by the target, and wherein the camera is configured to change one or more of the focus, the zoom, and the angle of the field of view of the camera based on the determined position of the target.

14. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the camera is configured to receive the light that is reflected or scattered by the target, and wherein the camera is configured to change one or more of the focus, the zoom, and the angle of the field of view of the camera based on one or both of a determined target movement direction and a determined target speed.

15. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning device is configured to be mounted on a weapon.

16. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning device is configured to be operated as a handheld device.

17. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning device is configured to be mounted on an object.
