Abstract

A self-standing data center infrastructure system includes a bottom frame and a collapsible top frame that are configured to be inserted into a standard shipping container for transport to a data center location. At the data center location the bottom frame is secured to a floor of the data center and the top frame is mounted as a pre-assembled unit on the bottom frame. The top frame is then expanded to provide infrastructure support to one or more rows of racks. Also, the racks may be secured to the bottom frame without the need for additional anchoring of the racks.

2. The data center infrastructure system of claim 1 , wherein the top frame structure, in the collapsed configuration, and the bottom frame structure are configured to fit within a standard shipping container to be transported to the data center as pre-assembled frame structures.

3. The data center infrastructure system of claim 1 , wherein the top frame structure in the collapsed configuration is configured to fit within a standard shipping container to be transported to the data center; and

wherein the bottom frame structure is configured to be transported to the data center location in the shipping container or another shipping container in two or more pieces that are to be assembled at the data center location.

4. The data center infrastructure system of claim 1 , wherein the bottom frame structure comprises:

a lower horizontal structural member extending along a length of the lateral side of the bottom frame structure; and

an upper horizontal structural member extending along the length of the lateral side of the bottom frame structure,

wherein the lower horizontal structural member and the upper horizontal structural member are configured to be coupled with the one or more racks to secure the one or more racks without the one or more racks being directly anchored to a floor of the data center via one or more anchor mechanisms.

5. The data center infrastructure system of claim 4 , further comprising:

a set of clips configured to couple the upper and lower horizontal structural members to the bottom frame such that a setback distance of the upper or lower horizontal structural members is adjustable; or

a set of clips configured to couple a rack of the one or more racks to the upper and lower horizontal structural members such that a setback distance of the rack is adjustable.

6. The data center infrastructure system of claim 1 , wherein:

the top frame structure comprises one or more hot air containment panels;

the bottom frame structure is configured to be coupled with at least two of the one or more racks on the lateral side and on a second lateral side of the bottom frame structure; and

the top frame structure is configured to direct exhaust air received into the bottom frame structure through the top frame structure to an exhaust plenum.

7. The data center infrastructure system of claim 6 , wherein the one or more hot air containment panels of the top frame structure are coupled to the moveable frame elements of the top frame structure such that the one or more hot air containment panels move with the moveable frame elements.

8. The data center infrastructure system of claim 6 , wherein the bottom frame structure comprises hot air containment panels on end walls of the bottom frame structure, wherein the end walls are perpendicular to the first and second sides of the bottom frame structure.

9. The data center infrastructure system of claim 8 , wherein the bottom frame structure further comprises one or more doors in the end walls of the bottom frame structure.

10. The data center infrastructure system of claim 1 , wherein the expanded moveable frame elements of the top frame structure of the data center infrastructure system are configured to couple with one or more expanded moveable frame elements of another top frame structure of another data center infrastructure system, such that the data center infrastructure system and the other data center infrastructure system provide infrastructure support for adjacent rows of racks on either side of a cold aisle of a data center.

11. A data center, comprising:

one or more data center infrastructure systems configured to provide infrastructure support on a corresponding aisle of the data center, wherein a given data center infrastructure system comprises:

a bottom frame structure configured to:

be mounted on a floor of the data center; and

be coupled with one or more racks on a lateral side of the bottom frame structure, wherein the bottom frame structure has a height equivalent to or greater than a height of the one or more racks; and

a top frame structure configured to be mounted, at the data center, on a top side of the bottom frame structure, wherein the top frame structure comprises:

a static frame configured to mount on the bottom frame structure;

moveable frame elements coupled to the static frame and configured to translate between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration; and

one or more infrastructure systems mechanically coupled to the moveable frame elements,

wherein the bottom frame structure and the top frame structure, in the collapsed configuration, are configured to be transported to the data center as separate components in a same shipping container or a set of shipping containers, and

wherein the top frame structure, when mounted on the bottom frame structure, forms a free-standing structure in the data center.

12. The data center of claim 11 , wherein:

the top frame structure, in the collapsed configuration, and the bottom frame structure are configured to fit within a standard shipping container to be transported to the data center as pre-assembled frame structures; or
