Abstract

A post-disaster conditions monitoring system. The system may include a device processor; and a non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions executable by the device processor to perform the following steps: receiving information from one or more pre-existing networks; determining conditions in a geographic region based on the information received from the one or more pre-existing networks; and preparing a map indicating the conditions within the geographic region.

Claims (82)

1. A post-disaster conditions monitoring system, comprising:

a device processor; and

a non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions executable by the device processor to perform the following steps:

receiving information from at least one pre-existing network, the information including flooding information from a sensor configured to detect moisture and electrical power outage information from a sensor configured to detect an electrical power outage;

determining condition information for disaster conditions in a geographic region, the disaster conditions comprising flood conditions and electrical power outage conditions;

wherein the disaster conditions are based on the information received from the at least one pre-existing network;

receiving initial images of the geographic region from cameras of mobile devices of an initial set of users and from cameras of drones dispatched by the initial set of users;

determining, based on the initial images, an unphotographed location in the geographic region where the initial images omit the unphotographed location;

dispatching a second set of users to the unphotographed location;

receiving additional images from cameras of mobile devices of the second set of users and cameras of drones dispatched by the second set of users of the unphotographed location;

preparing a photographic representation of the geographic region by assembling the initial images, the additional images, and additional information about conditions of the geographic region acquired using drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the initial set of users and drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the second set of users;

preparing a map, based on the photographic representation of the geographic region, indicating identified conditions associated with relative priorities of areas within the geographic region, based on the condition information, the initial images, the additional images, and the additional information about conditions of the geographic region acquired using the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the initial set of users and the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the second set of users, the map being used to guide disaster response strategies;

wherein the initial images and the additional images are processed when preparing the map to improve the accuracy of the identified conditions associated with the areas within the geographic region;

wherein the map includes multiple layers, each layer being associated with a respective condition;

preparing disaster response strategies based on selected layers of the map;

wherein each selected layer corresponds to an identified condition to be associated with a disaster response strategy;

wherein each identified condition has a priority; and

requesting, using a transmitter to contact emergency responders, disaster response actions based on the disaster response strategies by the emergency responders while prioritizing disaster areas when performing the disaster response actions;

wherein the prioritizing is based on relative priorities of identified conditions associated with the disaster areas within the geographic region, as indicated in the map;

wherein the conditions monitoring system also requests the disaster response actions by the emergency responders based on the map, the disaster response actions comprising instructions to the emergency responders to travel to areas shown in the map to assist users in the areas;

wherein the conditions monitoring system uses the initial images, the additional images, and the additional information about conditions of the geographic region acquired using the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the initial set of users and the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the second set of users to provide additional information about the conditions within the geographic region to improve the disaster response actions and to improve the accuracy of the map by providing information other than that provided by the at least one pre-existing network.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the computer readable medium includes instructions for providing the map to a user of the conditions monitoring system at a device of the user.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the initial images include location information embedded within the initial images used to analyze the initial images.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one pre-existing network from which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes a public utilities network.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one pre-existing network from which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes residential service providers.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes information regarding road closures.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes information collected by Internet of Things sensors.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes vehicle information from a vehicle network indicating poor electrical health for a vehicle in the vehicle network and the vehicle information indicates flooding.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes vehicle information from a vehicle network indicating at least one of vehicle alarm tripping and glass breakage for a vehicle in the vehicle network and the vehicle information indicates hail damage.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes vehicle information from a vehicle network and the vehicle information indicates a shortage of at least one of fuel and electrical charging resources in the geographic area.

11. A post-disaster conditions monitoring system, comprising:

a device processor; and

a non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions executable by the device processor to perform the following steps:

receiving information from at least one pre-existing network, the information including flooding information from a sensor configured to detect moisture and electrical power outage information from a sensor configured to detect an electrical power outage;

determining condition information for disaster conditions in a geographic region, the disaster conditions comprising flood conditions and electrical power outage conditions;

wherein the disaster conditions are based on the information received from the at least one pre-existing network;

receiving initial images of the geographic region from cameras of mobile devices of an initial set of users and from cameras of drones dispatched by the initial set of users;

determining, based on the initial images, an unphotographed location in the geographic region where the initial images omit the unphotographed location;

dispatching a second set of users to the unphotographed location;

receiving additional images from cameras of mobile devices of the second set of users and cameras of drones dispatched by the second set of users of the unphotographed location;

preparing a photographic representation of the geographic region by assembling the initial images, the additional images, and additional information about conditions of the geographic region acquired using drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the initial set of users and drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the second set of users;

preparing a map, based on the photographic representation of the geographic region, indicating identified conditions associated with relative priorities of areas within the geographic region, based on the condition information, the initial images, and the additional images, and the additional information about conditions of the geographic region acquired using the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the initial set of users and the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the second set of users, the map being used to guide disaster response strategies;

wherein the initial images and the additional images are processed when preparing the map to improve the accuracy of the identified conditions associated with the areas within the geographic region;

wherein the map includes multiple layers, each layer being associated with a respective condition;

preparing disaster response strategies based on selected layers of the map;

wherein each selected layer corresponds to an identified condition to be associated with a disaster response strategy;

wherein each identified condition has a priority; and

requesting, using a transmitter to contact emergency responders, disaster response actions based on the disaster response strategies by the emergency responders while prioritizing disaster areas when performing the disaster response actions;

wherein the prioritizing is based on relative priorities of identified conditions associated with the disaster areas within the geographic region, as indicated in the map;

wherein the conditions monitoring system also requests the disaster response actions by the emergency responders based on the map, the disaster response actions comprising instructions to the emergency responders to travel to areas shown in the map to assist users in the areas;

wherein the conditions monitoring system uses the initial images, the additional images, and the additional information about conditions of the geographic region acquired using the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the initial set of users and the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the second set of users to provide additional information about the conditions within the geographic region to improve the disaster response actions and to improve the accuracy of the map by providing information other than that provided by the at least one pre-existing network;

wherein at least one drone is configured to receive images from other drones in the geographic region and relay the images to the conditions monitoring system.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the computer readable medium further includes instructions for removing a drone from service when its battery charge drops below a predetermined threshold level and dispatching a replacement drone with a fresh battery.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes vehicle information from a vehicle network indicating poor electrical health for a vehicle in the vehicle network and the vehicle information indicates flooding.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes information collected by Internet of Things sensors.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes vehicle information from a vehicle network indicating at least one of vehicle alarm tripping and glass breakage for a vehicle in the vehicle network and the vehicle information indicates hail damage.

16. A post-disaster conditions monitoring system, comprising:

a device processor; and

a non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions executable by the device processor to perform the following steps:

receiving information from at least one pre-existing network, the information including flooding information from a sensor configured to detect moisture, electrical power outage information from a sensor configured to detect an electrical power outage, and population density information regarding population density in the geographic region;

determining condition information for disaster conditions in a geographic region, the disaster conditions comprising flood conditions and electrical power outage conditions;

wherein the disaster conditions are based on the information received from the at least one pre-existing network;

receiving initial images of the geographic region from cameras of mobile devices of an initial set of users and from cameras of drones dispatched by the initial set of users;

determining, based on the initial images, an unphotographed location in the geographic region where the initial images omit the unphotographed location;

dispatching a second set of users to the unphotographed location;

receiving additional images from cameras of mobile devices of the second set of users and cameras of drones dispatched by the second set of users of the unphotographed location;

preparing a photographic representation of the geographic region by assembling the initial images, the additional images, and additional information about conditions of the geographic region acquired using drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the initial set of users and drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the second set of users;

preparing a map, based on the photographic representation of the geographic region, indicating identified conditions associated with relative priorities of areas within the geographic region, based on the condition information, the initial images, and the additional images, and the additional information about conditions of the geographic region acquired using the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the initial set of users and the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the second set of users, the map being used to guide disaster response strategies;

wherein the initial images and the additional images are processed when preparing the map to improve the accuracy of the identified conditions associated with the areas within the geographic region;

wherein the map includes multiple condition layers, each condition layer being associated with a respective condition;

wherein the map further includes a population density layer indicating population densities associated with areas within the geographic region, based on the population density information;

preparing disaster response strategies based on selected condition layers of the map;

wherein each selected condition layer corresponds to an identified condition to be associated with a disaster response strategy;

wherein each identified condition has a priority;

requesting, using a transmitter to contact emergency responders, disaster response actions based on the disaster response strategies by the emergency responders while prioritizing disaster areas when performing the disaster response actions;

wherein the prioritizing is based on relative priorities of identified conditions associated with the disaster areas within the geographic region and further based on population densities associated with the disaster areas within the geographic region, as indicated in the map;

wherein the conditions monitoring system also requests the disaster response actions by the emergency responders based on the map, the disaster response actions comprising instructions to the emergency responders to travel to areas shown in the map to assist users in the areas;

wherein the conditions monitoring system uses the initial images, the additional images, and the additional information about conditions of the geographic region acquired using the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the initial set of users and the drone sensors of the drones dispatched by the second set of users to provide additional information about the conditions within the geographic region to improve the disaster response actions and to improve the accuracy of the map by providing information other than that provided by the at least one pre-existing network.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the population density information is acquired using Internet of Things sensors.

18. The system of claim 16 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes vehicle information from a vehicle network indicating poor electrical health for a vehicle in the vehicle network and the vehicle information indicates flooding.

19. The system of claim 16 , wherein the computer readable medium further includes instructions for sending information regarding the determined conditions to a third party associated with disaster response.

20. The system of claim 16 , wherein the information for which the computer readable medium has instructions to receive includes vehicle information from a vehicle network indicating at least one of vehicle alarm tripping and glass breakage for a vehicle in the vehicle network and the vehicle information indicates hail damage.
