Sphingosine pathway modulating compounds for the treatment of coronavirus infection
The invention provides methods and compositions for treating a coronavirus infection using sphingosine kinase-1 inhibitors, such as SK1-I, and selective sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor agonists, such as ozanimod.
1. A method for treating coronavirus infection in a mammal, comprising the step of:
administering to a mammal in need of treatment for coronavirus infection a therapeutically effective amount of ozanimod or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mammal is a human patient.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the administering step comprises administering the hydrochloride salt of the compound to the mammal.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the mammal is a human patient.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the coronavirus infection is a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.
6. The method of claim 2 , wherein the coronavirus infection is a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the human patient has severe Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
8. The method of claim 3 , wherein the coronavirus infection is a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.
9. The method of claim 4 , wherein the coronavirus infection is a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the human patient has severe Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
