Abstract

Among other things, embodiments of the present disclosure can help to automatically generate images displaying activity-based information and distribute such images to other users, such as members of a social network. The image may be modified based on activity data associated with other users and/or from other activity sensors.

Claims (74)

1. A system comprising:

a processor; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the system to perform operations comprising:

causing an image captured via a digital camera to be displayed on a user interface of a messaging system;

retrieving activity data associated with a physical activity performed by a user of the system from an activity sensor, wherein the activity data includes a step count;

generating an overlay including at least a portion of the activity data;

receiving an input from the user to apply the overlay to the image;

generating a modified image that comprises the image and the overlay; and

causing the modified image to be displayed on the user interface, wherein causing the modified image to be displayed comprises causing the image to be displayed unchanged and causing the activity data in the overlay that is displayed to change as updated activity data is detected by the activity sensor.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system to perform operations further comprising:

transmitting the modified image to a server.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the modified image is caused to be temporarily displayed on display devices of client devices coupled to the server.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system to perform operations further comprising:

retrieving a second image from a server;

generating a modified second image using the second image and the overlay; and

transmitting the modified second image to the server.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system is integrated with a wearable device, the wearable device comprising one or more of: a watch, eyeglasses, goggles, a headset, a wristband, earbuds, clothing, and a clip-on electronic device.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system to perform operations further comprising:

retrieving updated activity data from the activity sensor; and

generating an updated overlay based on the updated activity data,

wherein causing the modified image to be displayed on the user interface further comprises:

generating a modified second image using the image and the updated overlay, and

replacing the modified image with the modified second image.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the system to perform operations further comprising:

transmitting the modified second image to a server.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the physical activity performed by the user is walking and the activity sensor is an accelerometer.

9. A computer-implemented method comprising:

causing, by a processor, an image captured via a digital camera to be displayed on a user interface of a messaging system;

retrieving activity data associated with a physical activity performed by a user of a system from an activity sensor, wherein the activity data includes a step count;

generating an overlay including at least a portion of the activity data;

receiving an input from the user to apply the overlay to the image;

generating a modified image that comprises the image and the overlay; and

causing the modified image to be displayed on the user interface, wherein causing the modified image to be displayed comprises causing the image to be displayed unchanged and causing the activity data in the overlay that is displayed to change as updated activity data is detected by the activity sensor.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

causing selectable item associated with the overlay to be displayed on the user interface, wherein the input from the user to apply the overlay comprises a selection of the selectable item by the user.

11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

transmitting the modified image to a server.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the modified image is caused to be temporarily displayed on display devices of client devices coupled to the server.

13. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

retrieving a second image from a server;

generating a modified second image using the second image and the overlay; and

transmitting the modified second image to the server.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the processor is integrated with a wearable device, the wearable device comprising one or more of: a watch, eyeglasses, goggles, a headset, a wristband, earbuds, clothing, and a clip-on electronic device.

15. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

retrieving updated activity data from the activity sensor; and

generating an updated overlay based on the updated activity data;

wherein causing the modified image to be displayed on the user interface further comprises:

generating a modified second image using the image and the updated overlay, and

replacing the modified image with the modified second image.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

transmitting the modified second image to a server.

17. The method of claim 9 , wherein the physical activity performed by the user is walking and the activity sensor is an accelerometer.

18. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

causing an image captured via a digital camera to be displayed on a user interface of a messaging system;

retrieving activity data associated with a physical activity performed by a user from an activity sensor, wherein the activity data includes a step count;

generating an overlay including at least a portion of the activity data;

receiving an input from the user to apply the overlay to the image;

generating a modified image that comprises the image and the overlay; and

causing the modified image to be displayed on the user interface, wherein causing the modified image to be displayed comprises causing the image to be displayed unchanged and causing the activity data in the overlay that is displayed to change as updated activity data is detected by the activity sensor.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the processor to perform operations further comprising:

transmitting the modified image to a server.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the processor to perform operations further comprising:

retrieving a second image from a server;

generating a modified second image using the second image and the overlay; and

transmitting the modified second image to the server.

21. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , & wherein the processor to perform operations further comprising:

retrieving updated activity data from the activity sensor; and

generating an updated overlay based on the updated activity data,

wherein causing the modified image to be displayed on the user interface further comprises:

generating a modified second image using the image and the updated overlay, and

replacing the modified image with the modified second image.

22. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the processor to perform operations further comprising:

causing selectable item associated with the overlay to be displayed on the user interface, wherein the input from the user to apply the overlay comprises a selection of the selectable item by the user.

23. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the physical activity performed by the user is walking and the activity sensor is an accelerometer.
