Abstract

A fiber optic connector arrangement includes a printed circuit board coupled to a connector housing. The printed circuit board includes a memory storage device that is configured to store physical layer information pertaining to the fiber optic connector arrangement. The printed circuit board also defines contacts that are electrically coupled to the memory storage device to enable the physical layer information to be read from the memory storage device by a media reading interface. A connector assembly includes at least one adapter assembly; a printed circuit board; and a media reading interface. The connector assembly also may include a tactile pressure sensor. The adapter assembly defines at least a first port and a second port that are configured to connect optical fibers of two connector arrangements. One or more connector assemblies can be mounted to a fiber panel system.

Claims (22)

1. An optical connection panel comprising:

a panel body;

a plurality of connection modules disposed at the panel body, each connection module including a module body extending along a depth between a front and a rear, along a width between opposite first and second sides, and along a height between a top and a bottom, each module body having a first mounting feature at the first side, each module body carrying an optical adapter defining front ports accessible from the front of the respective module body, and each module body carrying a respective circuit board extending parallel with the top and bottom of the module body, each circuit board being disposed between the top and bottom of the respective module body, each circuit board carrying a respective plurality of spring contacts configured to carry data and power, and each connection module carrying a plurality of presence sensing members at the front ports, the presence sensing members being separate from the spring contacts, and the presence sensing members aiding in detecting plug connectors at the front ports.

2. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein each presence sensing member includes a resilient structure extending into a respective one of the front ports.

3. The optical connection panel of claim 2 , wherein the resilient structure is configured to be deflected partially out of the optical adapter when a plug connector is received in a respective one of the front ports.

4. The optical connection panel of claim 3 , wherein each presence sensing member includes a deflectable arm that aligns with a tactile pressure sensor.

5. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein the first mounting feature of each connection module includes a stop member movable relative to the respective module body.

6. The optical connection panel of claim 5 , wherein the stop member is carried by a resilient latching arm.

7. The optical connection panel of claim 5 , wherein the module body of each connection module has a second mounting feature at the respective second side of the module body.

8. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein a first of the connection modules is disposed laterally adjacent a second of the connection modules at the panel so that the first side of the second connection module faces towards the second side of the first connection module.

9. The optical connection panel of claim 8 , wherein a third of the connection modules is disposed above the first connection module at the panel body so that the bottom of the third connection module faces towards the top of the first connection module.

10. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein a second of the connection modules is disposed above a first of the connection modules at the panel body so that the bottom of the second connection module faces towards the top of the first connection module.

11. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein the optical adapter is one of a plurality of optical adapters carried by the module body.

12. The optical connection panel of claim 11 , wherein at least some of the optical adapters of the plurality are laterally spaced from each other by a distance that is larger than a gap between the front ports of each optical adapter.

13. The optical connection panel of claim 11 , wherein each module body defines a plurality of apertures at which the optical adapters are disposed.

14. The optical connection panel of claim 13 , wherein each aperture is sized to receive one of the optical adapters.

15. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein a first of the connection modules carries multiple rows of front ports.

16. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein the module body of each connection module is configured to slidably mount to the panel body.

17. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein the module body of each connection module is configured to slide transverse to insertion axes of the front ports.

18. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein the first mounting feature directly engages the panel body.

19. The optical connection panel of claim 1 , wherein the circuit board defines a network interface that communicatively couples the spring contacts to a management network.

20. The optical connection panel of claim 19 , wherein each circuit board extends beyond the module body of the respective connection module to define the network interface.
