Abstract

Disclosed are examples of systems, apparatus, methods and computer program products for sharing and publishing files. In one aspect, the database system can maintain a user database, a file database and a library. The database system can receive a first request initiated by a first user to share a first file with one or more second users and, responsive to the first request, enable a second set of one or more permissions for each of the second users. The database system also can receive a second request initiated by the first user to publish the first file to the library and, responsive to the second request, publish the first file to the library. The database system additionally can restrict access to the published file based on permissions associated with the library.

Claims (51)

1. A system comprising:

a memory; and

a database system implemented using a server system comprising one or more processors, the database system configurable to cause:

obtaining an indication of a request to share a file accessible to a first group of collaborating users with a second group of collaborating users, the file stored in a first shared library, the accessibility of the file to the first group of users based on a set of permissions;

moving, responsive to the request to share the file with the second group of users, the file to a second shared library, the file in the second shared library accessible to the second group of users,

adding, responsive to an indication to keep sharing the file with the first group of users when the file is moved, the first group of users to the file in the second shared library, the adding of the first group of users to the file in the second shared library comprising:

maintaining the set of permissions to provide the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the first group of users;

sending a notification to the first group of users, the notification indicating the moving of the file to the second shared library;

obtaining an indication of a selection of one of different levels of access to restrict the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to at least one user; and

restricting the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the at least one user according to the selected level of access.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the different levels of access to restrict the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the at least one user comprise at least one of:

people in an organization who have a link to access the file, people with existing access to the file, or specified people.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein adding the first group of users to the file in the second shared library further comprises:

sending, to the first group of users, a link selectable to maintain the set permissions.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the second group of users is associated with ownership of the file by the second group of users.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first shared library is provided through at least one of Sharepoint or OneDrive.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second shared library is provided through at least one of Sharepoint or OneDrive.

7. The system of claim 1 , the database system further configurable to cause:

creating, through at least one of Sharepoint or OneDrive, the file in the first shared library for collaboration by the first group of users.

8. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions configurable to cause:

obtaining an indication of a request to share a file accessible to a first group of collaborating users with a second group of collaborating users, the file stored in a first shared library, the accessibility of the file to the first group of users based on a set of permissions;

moving, responsive to the request to share the file with the second group of users, the file to a second shared library, the file in the second shared library accessible to the second group of users,

adding, responsive to an indication to keep sharing the file with the first group of users when the file is moved, the first group of users to the file in the second shared library, the adding of the first group of users to the file in the second shared library comprising:

maintaining the set of permissions to provide the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the first group of users;

sending a notification to the first group of users, the notification indicating the moving of the file to the second shared library;

obtaining an indication of a selection of one of different levels of access to restrict the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to at least one user; and

restricting the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the at least one user according to the selected level of access.

9. The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the different levels of access to restrict the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the at least one user comprise at least one of:

people in an organization who have a link to access the file, people with existing access to the file, or specified people.

10. The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein adding the first group of users to the file in the second shared library further comprises:

sending, to the first group of users, a link selectable to maintain the set permissions.

11. The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the second group of users is associated with ownership of the file by the second group of users.

12. The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the first shared library is provided through at least one of Sharepoint or OneDrive.

13. The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the second shared library is provided through at least one of Sharepoint or OneDrive.

14. The computer program product of claim 8 , the instructions further configurable to cause:

creating, through at least one of Sharepoint or OneDrive, the file in the first shared library for collaboration by the first group of users.

15. A computer-implemented method comprising:

obtaining an indication of a request to share a file accessible to a first group of collaborating users with a second group of collaborating users, the file stored in a first shared library, the accessibility of the file to the first group of users based on a set of permissions;

moving, responsive to the request to share the file with the second group of users, the file to a second shared library, the file in the second shared library accessible to the second group of users,

adding, responsive to an indication to keep sharing the file with the first group of users when the file is moved, the first group of users to the file in the second shared library, the adding of the first group of users to the file in the second shared library comprising:

maintaining the set of permissions to provide the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the first group of users;

sending a notification to the first group of users, the notification indicating the moving of the file to the second shared library;

obtaining an indication of a selection of one of different levels of access to restrict the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to at least one user; and

restricting the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the at least one user according to the selected level of access.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the different levels of access to restrict the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the at least one user comprise at least one of:

people in an organization who have a link to access the file, people with existing access to the file, or specified people.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein adding the first group of users to the file in the second shared library further comprises:

sending, to the first group of users, a link selectable to maintain the set permissions.

18. The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the accessibility of the file in the second shared library to the second group of users is associated with ownership of the file by the second group of users.

19. The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the first shared library is provided through at least one of Sharepoint or OneDrive.

20. The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the second shared library is provided through at least one of Sharepoint or OneDrive.
