Abstract

Methods and systems of managing location-based virtual goods are disclosed. At least a location attribute related to a virtual good is derived from a digital representation of a real-world scene captured at least in part by a mobile device. The location attribute is associated with a recognition signature. A reconciliation matrix related to the virtual good is identified based on the recognition signature between at least one provider account and at least one user account from among a plurality of user accounts. An augmented reality overlay including the virtual good is displayed on the mobile device screen, and a transaction with respect to the at least one provider account and the at least one user account is enabled via interaction with the augmented reality overlay.

Claims (48)

1. A location-based, virtual good management system comprising:

at least one computer readable memory storing software instructions; and

at least one processor coupled with the at least one computer readable memory, wherein the at least one processor performs the following operations upon execution of the software instructions:

derive at least a location attribute related to a virtual good from a digital representation of a real-world scene captured at least in part by a mobile device;

associate at least the location attribute related to the virtual good with a recognition signature;

identify, based on the recognition signature, a reconciliation matrix related to the virtual good and between at least one provider account and at least one user account from among a plurality of user accounts;

cause the mobile device to display an augmented reality overlay including the virtual good on the mobile device screen; and

enable, via interaction with the augmented reality overlay, a transaction with respect to the virtual good and between the at least one provider account and the at least one user account from among the plurality of user accounts.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the virtual good comprises a virtual coupon.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the operations further include generating the virtual coupon at least in part based on the location attribute.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the virtual good relates to a virtual loyalty card.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the virtual good relates to a video game.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the transaction includes at least one of the following video game related transactions: awarding game points, providing an achievement badge, and providing a virtual currency.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction with respect to the virtual good comprises a charge with respect to an account currency.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the change charge with respect to the account currency comprises converting the account currency to another currency.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction with respect to the virtual good comprises a charge with respect to a fractional amount of a currency.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction with respect to the virtual good comprises a charge with respect to a virtual currency.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the scene comprises at least one real-world object related to the virtual good.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein association with the recognition signature further depends on attributes derived from the digital representation of the at least one real-world object related to the virtual good.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the at least one real-world object comprises at least one of the following: a poster, a magazine, a brochure, a billboard, a product, a vehicle, a storefront, a food item, a logo, a trademark, an image of a screen, a person, an image of a good, an image of a service, a street sign, a 2D object, a 3D object, and a printed media.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction related to the virtual good includes at least one of the following: a purchase, a download, an order, a pre-order, a reservation, a down payment, a pre-payment, and a reconciliation of a coupon.

15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction related to the virtual good includes a subscription.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the subscription comprises a newspaper subscription.

17. The system of claim 1 , wherein the location attribute is derived from a GPS location of the mobile device.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the location attribute comprises a location.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the location comprises a relative location.

20. The system of claim 1 , wherein the user account comprises an account number.

21. The system of claim 20 , wherein the account number comprises a unique account number.

22. The system of claim 20 , wherein the account number comprises a customer identifier.

23. The system of claim 1 , wherein the augmented reality overlay tracks, in real-time, relative to an identified object in the scene.

24. The system of claim 1 , wherein the virtual good comprises a ticket.

25. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction comprises a fee charge to the at least one provider account.

26. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transaction comprises a royalty payment.

27. The system of claim 1 , wherein the augmented reality overlay comprises an augmented reality 3D model.

28. The system of claim 27 , wherein the augmented reality 3D model comprises an animated model.

29. The system of claim 1 , wherein the augmented reality overlay comprises an augmented reality commercial overlay.

30. The system of claim 1 , wherein the augmented reality commercial overlay comprises at least one of the following: an advertisement, informational text, and a website link.

31. A computer-implemented method for managing a virtual good based on location, the method comprising:

deriving at least a location attribute related to a virtual good from a digital representation of a real-world scene captured at least in part by a mobile device;

associating at least the location attribute related to the virtual good with a recognition signature;

identifying, based on the recognition signature, a reconciliation matrix related to the virtual good and between at least one provider account and at least one user account from among a plurality of user accounts;

causing the mobile device to display an augmented reality overlay including the virtual good on the mobile device screen; and

enabling, via interaction with the augmented reality overlay, a transaction with respect to the virtual good and between the at least one provider account and the at least one user account from among the plurality of user accounts.

32. A non-transitory computer-readable medium including at least one computer readable memory storing software instructions that upon execution by at least one processor coupled to the non-transitory computer-readable medium, perform the following operations:

deriving at least a location attribute related to a virtual good from a digital representation of a real-world scene captured at least in part by a mobile device;

associating at least the location attribute related to the virtual good with a recognition signature; identifying, based on the recognition signature, a reconciliation matrix related to the virtual good and between at least one provider account and at least one user account from among a plurality of user accounts;

causing the mobile device to display an augmented reality overlay including the virtual good on the mobile device screen; and

enabling, via interaction with the augmented reality overlay, a transaction with respect to the virtual good and between the at least one provider account and the at least one user account from among the plurality of user accounts.
