Abstract

One embodiment relates to seed and plants of lettuce variety San Miguel. Another embodiment relates to the plants, seeds and tissue cultures of lettuce variety San Miguel, and to methods for producing a lettuce plant produced by crossing such plants with themselves, with another lettuce plant, such as a plant of another genotype, or with vegetatively propagating said plant. Another embodiment further relates to seeds and plants produced by such crossing. Further embodiments relate to parts of such plants, including the fruit and gametes of such plants.

Claims (30)

1. A seed of lettuce variety San Miguel, wherein a representative sample of seed having been deposited under NCMA No. 202202002.

2. A plant, or a plant part thereof, of lettuce variety San Miguel, wherein a representative sample of seed of lettuce variety San Miguel was deposited under NCMA No. 202202002, wherein the plant or plant part comprises at least one cell of lettuce variety San Miguel.

3. A lettuce plant, or a part thereof, having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of the lettuce plant of claim 2 .

4. A plant, or a part thereof, produced by growing the seed of claim 1 , wherein the plant or plant part comprises a microspore, leaf, ovary, pollen, embryo sac, embryo, cutting, stem, protoplast, ovule, anther, root, or a cell.

5. A tissue culture of regenerable cells of the plant of claim 2 .

6. A lettuce plant regenerated from the tissue culture of claim 5 or a selfed progeny thereof, wherein said lettuce plant has all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of lettuce variety San Miguel.

7. A method of vegetatively propagating the plant of claim 2 , the method comprising:

collecting tissue capable of being propagated from a plant of lettuce variety San Miguel;

cultivating the tissue to obtain proliferated shoots;

rooting the proliferated shoots to obtain rooted plantlets; and

optionally, growing plants from the rooted plantlets.

8. A plant or plantlet produced by the method of claim 7 .

9. A method of producing lettuce seed, the method comprising crossing the plant of claim 2 with itself or another lettuce plant and harvesting the resulting seed.

10. An F 1 lettuce seed produced by the method of claim 9 .

11. A lettuce plant, or part thereof, produced by growing the seed of claim 10 .

12. A plant produced by growing the seed of lettuce variety San Miguel, wherein a representative sample of seed of lettuce variety San Miguel was deposited under NCMA No. 202202002, wherein said plant exhibits a combination of traits including resistance to Downy Mildew ( Bremia lactucae ) B1:8US and B1:9US.

13. A method of introducing a desired added trait into lettuce variety San Miguel, the method comprising:

crossing the plant of claim 2 with a lettuce plant that comprises a desired trait to produce progeny;

selecting progeny that comprises the desired trait or selfing said progeny and selecting for progeny having the desired trait;

crossing the selected progeny with lettuce variety San Miguel to produce backcross progeny;

selecting backcross progeny comprising the desired trait; and repeating said crossing to lettuce variety San Miguel one or more times to produce a plant derived from lettuce variety San Miguel comprising a desired trait and otherwise all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of lettuce variety San Miguel.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the desired trait is male sterility, pest resistance, insect resistance, disease resistance, herbicide resistance, or any combination thereof.

15. A lettuce plant produced by the method of claim 13 or a selfed progeny thereof, wherein the lettuce plant has the desired trait and otherwise all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of lettuce variety San Miguel.

16. A seed of the plant of claim 15 , wherein the seed produces a plant that has the desired trait and otherwise all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of lettuce variety San Miguel.

17. A seed that produces the plant of claim 15 .

18. A method of determining a genotype of lettuce variety San Miguel, the method comprising:

obtaining a sample of nucleic acids from the plant or plant part of claim 2 ; and

and detecting in said nucleic acids one or more polymorphisms.

19. A method of producing lettuce leaves as a food product comprising sowing the seed of claim 1 , growing the seed into a harvestable lettuce plant and harvesting the head or leaves of said plant.

20. A method of producing lettuce leaves as a fresh vegetable comprising packaging the leaves of the plant of claim 2 .
