Abstract

An infrared (IR) imaging system for determining a concentration of a target species in an object is disclosed. The imaging system can include an optical system including a focal plane array (FPA) unit behind an optical window. The optical system can have components defining at least two optical channels thereof, said at least two optical channels being spatially and spectrally different from one another. Each of the at least two optical channels can be positioned to transfer IR radiation incident on the optical system towards the optical FPA. The system can include a processing unit containing a processor that can be configured to acquire multispectral optical data representing said target species from the IR radiation received at the optical FPA. One or more of the optical channels may be used in detecting objects on or near the optical window, to avoid false detections of said target species.

Claims (37)

1. An infrared (IR) imaging system comprising:

a first camera system and a second camera system, each configured to acquire image data through an optical window; and

a processing unit configured to:

determine contrast levels associated with the image data; and

determine whether the optical window is obscured based on the contrast levels.

2. The IR imaging system of claim 1 , wherein the processing unit is configured to:

determine that the optical window is obscured; and

provide a window obstruction alert in response to determining that the optical window is obscured.

3. The IR imaging system of claim 2 , wherein the processing unit is configured to adjust the image data from the first camera system in compensation for obscuration of the optical window.

4. The IR imaging system of claim 1 , wherein the first camera system and the second camera system comprise a first optical channel and a second optical channel, respectively, from a plurality of spatially and spectrally distinct optical channels.

5. The IR imaging system of claim 4 , wherein a second focal length associated with second imaging lenses from the second optical channel exceeds a first focal length associated with first imaging lenses from the first optical channel.

6. The IR imaging system of claim 4 , wherein a depth of field associated with the first optical channel extends beyond a depth of the optical window.

7. The IR imaging system of claim 1 , wherein the processing unit is configured to detect a target species based on the image data from the first camera system and the second camera system.

8. A computer-implemented method comprising:

determining contrast levels associated with image data that are acquired by a first camera system and a second camera system through an optical window; and

determining whether the optical window is obscured based on the contrast levels.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising:

determining that the optical window is obscured; and

providing a window obstruction alert in response to determining that the optical window is obscured.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , further comprising:

adjusting the image data from the first camera system in compensation for obscuration of the optical window.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the first camera system and the second camera system comprise a first optical channel and a second optical channel, respectively, from a plurality of spatially and spectrally distinct optical channels.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein a second focal length associated with second imaging lenses from the second optical channel exceeds a first focal length associated with first imaging lenses from the first optical channel.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein a depth of field associated with the first optical channel extends beyond a depth of the optical window.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising:

detecting a target species based on the image data from the first camera system and the second camera system.

15. A computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer-executable program code stored therein, the computer-executable program code comprising program code instructions configured to:

determine contrast levels associated with image data that are acquired by a first camera system and a second camera system through an optical window; and

determine whether the optical window is obscured based on the contrast levels.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the computer-executable program code comprises the program code instructions configured to:

determine that the optical window is obscured; and

provide a window obstruction alert in response to determining that the optical window is obscured.

17. The computer program product of claim 16 , wherein the computer-executable program code comprises the program code instructions configured to:

adjust the image data from the first camera system in compensation for obscuration of the optical window.

18. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the first camera system and the second camera system comprise a first optical channel and a second optical channel, respectively, from a plurality of spatially and spectrally distinct optical channels.

19. The computer program product of claim 18 , wherein a second focal length associated with second imaging lenses from the second optical channel exceeds a first focal length associated with first imaging lenses from the first optical channel.

20. The computer program product of claim 18 , wherein a depth of field associated with the first optical channel extends beyond a depth of the optical window.
