Abstract

A manifold assembly configured for use with a fluid end used in oil and gas operations. The manifold assembly comprises upper and lower manifolds supported on side posts such that the manifolds and posts define a central opening. In operation, the fluid end is positioned within the central opening such that the manifold assembly surrounds the fluid end. The manifold assembly is not attached to the fluid end other than flexible conduits interconnecting the fluid and the manifolds. The manifold assembly is modular and when assembled, may be moved together as a single unit.

Claims (68)

1. A manifold assembly, comprising:

a frame comprising first and second side posts positioned in a spaced relationship, the frame having opposed upper and lower ends;

an upper manifold supported on the upper end of the frame;

a lower manifold supported on the lower end of the frame;

wherein the first and second side posts are joined by the upper and lower manifolds such that the first and second side posts and the upper and lower manifolds together define a central opening;

a plurality of upper conduits supported by the upper manifold; and

a plurality of lower conduits supported by the lower manifold;

wherein the plurality of upper and lower conduits are configured to be attached to a fluid end when at least a portion of the fluid end is positioned within the central opening; and

wherein the upper and lower manifolds are both suction manifolds.

2. An apparatus comprising:

the manifold assembly of claim 1 ; and

a fluid end that is the fluid end of claim 1 , at least the portion of the fluid end positioned within the central opening;

wherein the plurality of upper and lower conduits are attached to the fluid end.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the fluid end is not attached to the frame, except for a connection between the fluid end and the plurality upper and lower conduits.

4. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein each of the plurality of upper and lower conduits are attached to the fluid end using a bore adapter.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of upper conduits and the plurality of lower conduits are each characterized as suction conduits and wherein the bore adapter is characterized as a suction bore adapter.

The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the fluid end comprises a plurality of fluid end sections positioned in a side-by-side relationship; and wherein each of the plurality of fluid end sections is attached to a corresponding one of the plurality of upper conduits and a corresponding one of the plurality of lower conduits.

7. A pump, comprising:

the apparatus of claim 2 ;

a power end attached to the fluid end by a plurality of stay rods; wherein at least a portion of each of the plurality of stay rods is positioned within the central opening.

8. The pump of claim 7 , wherein the frame is not attached to the power end, except for a connection between the fluid end and the plurality of upper and lower conduits.

9. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the upper and lower manifolds are releasably attached to the frame.

10. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the fluid end is configured to be suspended within the central opening by a power end.

11. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of upper and lower conduits are each flexible hoses.

12. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of upper and lower conduits is configured to be attached to the fluid end using a clamp.

13. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the frame further comprises opposed upper and lower surfaces, and wherein the lower surface of the frame is supported on a ground surface.

14. The manifold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the manifold assembly is movable as a single unit relative to the fluid end.

15. A manifold assembly, comprising:

a frame comprising first and second side posts positioned in a spaced relationship, the frame having opposed upper and lower ends;

an upper suction manifold supported on the upper end of the frame;

a lower suction manifold supported on the lower end of the frame;

an upper discharge manifold supported on the upper end of the frame;

a lower discharge manifold supported on the lower end of the frame;

wherein the first and second side posts are joined by the upper and lower suction manifolds and the upper and lower discharge manifolds such that the first and second side posts, the upper and lower suction manifolds, and the upper and lower discharge manifolds together define a central opening;

a plurality of upper conduits supported by the upper suction manifold; and

a plurality of lower conduits supported by the lower suction manifold;

wherein the plurality of upper and lower conduits are configured to be attached to a fluid end when at least a portion of the fluid end is positioned within the central opening.

16. The manifold assembly of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of upper and lower conduits are characterized as upper and lower suction conduits respectively, the manifold assembly further comprising:

a plurality of upper discharge conduits supported by the upper discharge manifold; and

a plurality of lower discharge conduits supported by the lower discharge manifold;

wherein the plurality of upper and lower discharge conduits are configured to be attached to the fluid end.

17. The manifold assembly of claim 15 , wherein the upper and lower discharge manifolds are releasably attached to the frame.

18. The manifold assembly of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of upper and lower discharge conduits are each flexible hoses.

19. An apparatus, comprising:

a fluid end;

a plurality of discharge conduits attached to the fluid end;

a manifold assembly, comprising:

a frame comprising first and second side posts positioned in a spaced relationship, the frame having opposed upper and lower ends;

an upper manifold supported on the upper end of the frame;

a lower manifold supported on the lower end of the frame;

wherein the first and second side posts are joined by the upper and lower manifolds such that the first and second side posts and the upper and lower manifolds together define a central opening;

a plurality of upper suction conduits supported by the upper manifold; and

a plurality of lower suction conduits supported by the lower manifold;

wherein at least a portion of the fluid end is positioned within the central opening; and wherein the plurality of upper and lower suction conduits are attached to the fluid end; and

wherein the plurality of discharge conduits are not attached to the frame, expect for a connection between the fluid end and the upper and lower suction conduits.

20. A pump, comprising:

an apparatus comprising:

a fluid end; and

a manifold assembly, comprising:

a frame comprising first and second side posts positioned in a spaced relationship, the frame having opposed upper and lower ends;

an upper manifold supported on the upper end of the frame;

a lower manifold supported on the lower end of the frame;

wherein the first and second side posts are joined by the upper and lower manifolds such that the first and second side posts and the upper and lower manifolds together define a central opening;

a plurality of upper conduits supported by the upper manifold; and

a plurality of lower conduits supported by the lower manifold;

wherein at least a portion of the fluid end is positioned within the central opening; and wherein the plurality of upper and lower conduits are attached to the fluid end; and

a power end attached to the fluid end by a plurality of stay rods; wherein at least a portion of each of the plurality of stay rods is positioned within the central opening.

21. The pump of claim 20 , wherein the frame is not attached to the power end, except for a connection between the fluid end and the plurality of upper and lower conduits.
