Abstract

A surface cleaning apparatus includes a recovery tank, a suction nozzle in fluid communication with the recovery tank, and a suction source in fluid communication with the suction nozzle and the recovery tank to generate a working air path to transport debris-containing fluid including air and liquid from the suction nozzle into the recovery tank. An air/liquid separator can be provided within the recovery tank for separating liquid from air in the debris-containing fluid.

Claims (35)

1. A surface cleaning apparatus, comprising:

a housing;

a working air path through the housing;

a recovery container defining a portion of the working air path;

a suction source defining a portion of the working air path;

a hose defining an airflow conduit and having a first end and a second end, spaced from the first end;

a hose coupler provided at the first end, the hose coupler comprising a coupler housing having an inlet airflow connector;

a hose receiver adapted to receive the hose coupler, the hose receiver comprising a hose port in fluid communication with a portion of the working air path upstream of the recovery container and the suction source, wherein the hose port is adapted to couple with the inlet airflow connector such that the airflow conduit of the hose is in fluid communication with a portion of the working air path;

a suction nozzle assembly removably mounted on the housing and comprising a suction pathway in fluid communication with a portion of the working air path, wherein the suction nozzle assembly comprises an opening forming a suction nozzle inlet adapted to be adjacent a surface to be cleaned;

a cover selectively moveable between an open position in which the hose receiver can be coupled with the hose coupler and a closed position in which the cover closes the hose receiver; wherein the hose receiver and the cover are provided on the suction nozzle assembly; and

a locking mechanism adapted to retain the hose coupler in the hose receiver, wherein the locking mechanism comprises at least one locking projection engageable with at least one locking latch;

wherein the cover comprises a handle adapted for lifting the suction nozzle assembly away from the housing.

2. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the handle comprises a lip on the cover.

3. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking projection and the at least one locking latch are configured such that when the at least one locking projection engages the at least one locking latch, the suction nozzle assembly is prevented from releasing from the housing.

4. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking latch is configured to engage the suction nozzle assembly when the at least one locking projection engages the at least one locking latch.

5. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 , comprising a recovery airflow conduit leading to the recovery container, wherein the suction nozzle assembly comprises a front wall and a rear wall defining the suction pathway therebetween, and wherein the suction pathway is in fluid communication with the recovery airflow conduit.

6. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the hose receiver further comprises a nozzle port in fluid communication with the suction pathway and wherein the inlet airflow connector is adapted to block the nozzle port when coupled with the hose port to close off the suction pathway from fluid communication with the suction source.

7. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the hose comprises a retention latch and the hose receiver comprises a latch retainer configured to engage with the retention latch.

8. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking projection extends from the coupler housing.

9. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking projection comprises two locking projections either extending from a same side of the coupler housing as the inlet airflow connector or disposed on either side of the inlet airflow connector.

10. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking latch is provided with the housing adjacent the hose receiver.

11. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a fluid delivery system including a fluid container and wherein the hose receiver further comprises an outlet fluid connector in fluid communication with the fluid container.

12. The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the hose comprises a fluid delivery conduit and the hose coupler comprises an inlet fluid connector in fluid communication with the fluid delivery conduit and which is adapted to couple with the outlet fluid connector.

13. A surface cleaning apparatus, comprising:

a housing;

a working air path through the housing;

a recovery container defining a portion of the working air path;

a suction source defining a portion of the working air path;

a hose defining an airflow conduit and having a first end and a second end, spaced from the first end;

a hose coupler provided at the first end, the hose coupler comprising a coupler housing having an inlet airflow connector;

a hose receiver adapted to receive the hose coupler, the hose receiver comprising a hose port in fluid communication with a portion of the working air path upstream of the recovery container and the suction source, wherein the hose port is adapted to couple with the inlet airflow connector such that the airflow conduit of the hose is in fluid communication with a portion of the working air path;

a locking mechanism adapted to retain the hose coupler in the hose receiver, wherein the locking mechanism comprises at least one locking projection engageable with at least one locking latch; and

a suction nozzle assembly removably mounted on the housing and comprising a suction pathway in fluid communication with a portion of the working air path, wherein the suction nozzle assembly comprises an opening forming a suction nozzle inlet adapted to be adjacent a surface to be cleaned;

wherein the at least one locking projection and the at least one locking latch are configured such that when the at least one locking projection engages the at least one locking latch, the suction nozzle assembly is prevented from releasing from the housing.
