Abstract

A corner module apparatus for a vehicle includes a driving unit configured to provide driving power to a wheel of the vehicle; a braking unit, coupled with the driving unit, configured to apply or release braking power; an upper arm module, connected to the driving unit, adjustable to vary a camber angle of the wheel; a lower arm module, connected to the driving unit, configured to absorb road surface impact while the vehicle moves; and a steering unit configured to support the upper arm module and the lower arm module, and adjust a steering angle of the wheel.

Claims (52)

1. A corner module apparatus for a vehicle, comprising:

a driving unit configured to provide driving power to a wheel of the vehicle;

a braking unit, coupled with the driving unit, configured to apply or release braking power;

a steering unit configured to adjust a steering angle of the wheel;

an upper arm module, connected between the steering unit and the driving unit, adjustable to vary a camber angle of the wheel; and

a lower arm module, connected between the steering unit and the driving unit, configured to absorb road surface impact while the vehicle moves, wherein the lower arm module is spaced apart from the upper arm module and is configured to rotate in accordance with up and down movements of the wheel, independent of the upper arm module,

wherein the upper arm module comprises:

a first upper bracket, rotatably connected to the driving unit,

a second upper bracket, rotatably connected to the steering unit, spaced apart from the first upper bracket,

an upper link unit disposed between the first upper bracket and the second upper bracket and being configured to vary a distance between the first upper bracket and the second upper bracket, and

a first driving module, disposed between the first upper bracket and the second upper bracket, configured to vary the distance between the first upper bracket and the second upper bracket by adjusting an internal angle of the upper link unit,

wherein the upper link unit comprises:

a pair of first upper links having first ends rotatably connected to the first upper bracket, wherein the pair of first upper links have the same length and angles of the pair of first upper links that are inclined are identically set, and

a pair of second upper links having first ends rotatably connected to the second upper bracket and second ends rotably connected to second ends of the pair of first upper links, respectively, wherein the pair of second upper links have the same length and angles of the pair of second upper links that are inclined are identically set, and

wherein the first driving module comprises:

a first actuator configured to generate rotatory power from an external power source,

a first lead screw, disposed on the first actuator to move forward and backward, configured to widen or narrow a gap between the first upper bracket and the second upper bracket in a moving direction thereof, and

a first nut screw configured to convert a rotary motion of the first actuator into a rectilineal and reciprocating motion of the first lead screw.

2. The corner module apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the upper arm module, connected to an upper side of the driving unit, has a variable length in a width direction of the vehicle and is configured to adjust an inclination of the wheel relative to ground.

3. The corner module apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the pair of first upper links and the pair of second upper links are connected in a pantograph form.

4. The corner module apparatus of claim 1 , wherein:

the first actuator is fixed to one of the first upper bracket or the second upper bracket, and

the first lead screw has an end fixed to another one of the first upper bracket or the second upper bracket.

5. The corner module apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first actuator is a hollow motor.

6. The corner module apparatus of claim 1 , wherein an outer circumferential surface of the first lead screw is threaded into an inner circumferential surface of the first nut screw.

7. The corner module apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising an arm control unit configured to control the upper arm module.

8. A corner module apparatus for a vehicle, comprising:

a driving unit configured to provide driving power to a wheel of the vehicle;

a braking unit, coupled with the driving unit, configured to apply or release braking power;

a steering unit configured to adjust a steering angle of the wheel;

an upper arm module, connected between the steering unit and the driving unit, adjustable to vary a camber angle of the wheel; and

a lower arm module, connected between the steering unit and the driving unit, adjustable to vary a wheel track of the wheel, wherein the lower arm module is spaced apart from the upper arm module and is configured to rotate, in accordance with up and down movements of the wheel, independent of the upper arm module,

wherein the lower arm module comprises:

a first lower bracket rotably connected to the driver unit,

a second lower bracket rotatably, connected to the steering unit, spaced apart from the first lower bracket,

a lower link unit, disposed between the first lower bracket and the second lower bracket, configured to have an adjustable internal angle, and

a second driving module, disposed between the first lower bracket and the second lower bracket, configured to vary the distance between the first lower bracket and the second lower bracket by adjusting an internal angle of the lower link unit,

wherein the lower link unit comprises:

a pair of first lower links having first ends rotatably connected to the first lower bracket, wherein the pair of first upper links have the same length and angles of the pair of first upper links that re inlined are identically set, and

a pair of second lower links having first ends rotatably connected to the second lower bracket and second ends rotatably connected to second ends of the pair of first lower links, respectively, wherein the pair of second upper links have the same length and angles of the pair of second upper links that are inclined are identically set, and

wherein the second driving module comprises:

a second actuator configured to generate rotatory power from and external power source,

a second lead screw, disposed on the second actuator to move forward and backward, configured to widen or narrow a gap between the first lower bracket and the second lower bracket in a moving direction thereof, and

a second nut screw configured to convert the rotary motion of the second actuator into a rectilineal and reciprocating motion of the second lead screw.

9. The corner module apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the lower arm module, connected to a lower side of the driving unit, has a variable length in a width direction of the vehicle and configured to adjust a contact location of the wheel relative to ground.

10. The corner module apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the pair of first lower links and the pair of second lower links are connected in a pantograph form.

11. The corner module apparatus of claim 8 , wherein:

the second actuator is fixed to one of the first lower bracket or the second lower bracket, and

the second lead screw has an end fixed to another one of the first lower bracket or the second lower bracket.

12. The corner module apparatus of claim 8 , wherein an outer circumferential surface of the second lead screw is threaded into an inner circumferential surface of the second nut screw.

13. The corner module apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising an arm control unit configured to control the upper arm module and the lower arm module.

14. The corner module apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the arm control unit varies the lower arm module length when the wheel drives.
