Abstract

Described herein are methods of processing telematics data that include receiving initial telematics data related to a vehicle from a telematics device and processing the initial telematics data to generate processed telematics data. For each recipient of a plurality of recipients, the methods additionally include determining, from the initial telematics data and/or the processed telematics data, data that is to be made accessible to a recipient. Determining the data that is to be made accessible to the recipient comprises evaluating one or more constraints for the recipient that constrain what data the recipient is permitted to receive and determining what data has been requested to be provided to the recipient. For each recipient of a plurality of recipients, the methods additionally include distributing the determined data to the recipient. Also described herein are systems for processing telematics data in accordance with the described methods.

Claims (47)

1. A method of processing telematics data, the method comprising:

receiving initial telematics data related to a vehicle from a telematics device;

processing the initial telematics data to generate processed telematics data;

for each recipient of a plurality of recipients:

determining, from the initial telematics data and/or the processed telematics data, data that is to be made accessible to a recipient, wherein determining the data that is to be made accessible to the recipient comprises evaluating one or more constraints for the recipient that constrain what data the recipient is permitted to receive and determining what data has been requested to be provided to the recipient; and

distributing the determined data to the recipient.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein processing the initial telematics data to generate the processed telematics data comprises generating, from the initial telematics data, derivative data that is derived from at least some of the initial telematics data.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the initial telematics data comprises location data, and wherein the derivative data comprises speed data.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein distributing the determined data to the recipient comprises distributing the speed data to the recipient.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein distributing the determined data to the recipient comprises distributing the speed data while not distributing the location data to the recipient.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein evaluating the one or more constraints for the recipient that constrain what data the recipient is permitted to receive comprises evaluating a constraint received from a user associated with the telematics device.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein evaluating the constraint received from the user associated with the telematics device comprises evaluating a data sharing termination constraint received from the user.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising terminating the distribution of the determined data to the recipient.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein distributing the determined data to the recipient comprises not distributing at least some of the initial telematics data and/or the processed telematics data to the recipient.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

deleting the at least some of the initial telematics data and/or the processed telematics data that is not to be distributed to the recipient.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a portion of the initial telematics data and/or the processed telematics data that satisfies at least one condition; and

deleting the portion of the initial telematics data and/or the processed telematics data that satisfies the at least one condition.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein deleting the portion comprises deleting the portion without distributing any of the portion to any recipient of the plurality of recipients.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein identifying the portion that satisfies the at least one condition comprises identifying data, of the initial telematics data and/or the processed telematics data, that satisfies at least one privacy condition.

14. The method of claim 1 , further comprising storing the initial telematics data in an initial data store of a recipient volume associated with the recipient, wherein the recipient is not permitted to access the initial data store of the recipient volume.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein distributing the determined data to the recipient comprises writing the determined data to a recipient data store of the recipient volume, wherein the recipient is permitted to access the recipient data store of the recipient volume.

16. A system for processing telematics data, the system comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one storage medium having encoded thereon executable instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to carry out a method of managing a plurality of subscriber volumes storing telematics data, wherein each subscriber volume of the plurality of subscriber volumes is associated with a subscriber of telematics data of a plurality of subscribers of telematics data, wherein a subscriber associated with a subscriber volume accesses telematics data via the associated subscriber volume, wherein each subscriber volume comprises an initial data store configured to store initial telematics data generated by a telematics device associated with a vehicle and a subscriber data store configured to store subscriber telematics data for access by the subscriber associated with the subscriber volume, wherein the subscriber associated with a subscriber volume is not permitted to access the initial data store of the subscriber volume, and wherein the method comprises:

distributing the initial telematics data generated by the telematics device associated with the vehicle to each of the plurality of subscriber volumes, wherein distributing the initial telematics data to the plurality of subscriber volumes comprises writing the initial telematics data to each of the initial data stores of the plurality of subscriber volumes; and

for each subscriber volume:

processing the initial telematics data received at the initial data store of the subscriber volume to generate processed telematics data;

determining, from the initial telematics data and/or the processed telematics data, data that is to be included within the subscriber telematics data for access by the subscriber associated with the subscriber volume, wherein determining the data that is to be included within the subscriber telematics data comprises evaluating one or more constraints for the subscriber associated with the subscriber volume that constrain what data the subscriber is permitted to receive and determining what data has been requested to be provided to the subscriber associated with the subscriber volume; and

writing data to the subscriber data store of the subscriber volume, from among the processed telematics data and/or the initial telematics data, in accordance with the determined data that is to be included within the subscriber telematics data.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein:

processing the initial telematics data to generate the processed telematics data comprises generating derivative data that is derived from at least some of the initial telematics data; and

writing data to the subscriber data store of the subscriber volume comprises writing at least some of the derivative data to the subscriber data store of the subscriber volume.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein for a first subscriber volume associated with a first subscriber, from among the plurality of subscriber volumes each associated with a subscriber of the plurality of subscribers:

generating the derivative data comprises generating the derivative data from first initial telematics data of the initial telematics data;

evaluating the one or more constraints for the first subscriber associated with the first subscriber volume of the plurality of subscriber volumes comprises determining that the first subscriber is not entitled to receive the first initial telematics data; and

writing the data to the subscriber data store of the first subscriber volume in accordance with the determined data that is to be included within the subscriber telematics data for the first subscriber comprises not writing the first initial telematics data to the subscriber data store of the first subscriber volume.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein for a second subscriber volume associated with a second subscriber, from among the plurality of subscriber volumes each associated with a subscriber of the plurality of subscribers:

generating the derivative data comprises generating the derivative data from the first initial telematics data of the initial telematics data;

evaluating the one or more constraints for the second subscriber associated with the second subscriber volume of the plurality of subscriber volumes comprises determining that the second subscriber is entitled to receive the first initial telematics data; and

writing the data to the subscriber data store of the second subscriber volume in accordance with the determined data that is to be included within the subscriber telematics data for the second subscriber comprises writing the first initial telematics data to the subscriber data store of the second subscriber volume.

20. The system of claim 16 , wherein the method comprises, for each subscriber volume, converting at least some of the initial telematics data from a first format to a second format, wherein the second format is usable by an application that has access to the subscriber data store.

21. The system of claim 16 , wherein writing the data to the subscriber data store, for each subscriber volume, comprises extracting and removing at least some of the initial telematics data from the initial data store of the subscriber volume.

The system of claim 16 , wherein, for a subscriber volume, determining the data that is to be included within the subscriber telematics data for access by the subscriber associated with the subscriber volume and writing data to the subscriber data store in accordance with the determined data that is to be included within the subscriber telematics data, comprises:

filtering the initial telematics data and/or the processed telematics data to output the subscriber telematics data.

23. The system of claim 16 , wherein the method comprises receiving, from a user associated with the vehicle, at least one of the one or more constraints for a subscriber that constrain what data the subscriber is permitted to receive.
