Abstract

System and methods for including a system mounted to a vehicle for identifying incidents of a roadway and transmitting the incidents to a server, the server located remotely from the system, the system comprising: a device having: a camera for obtaining digital images; at least one sensor including a location based sensor; a memory and processor for executing image processing instructions for processing the digital images for automated detection of the incidents, generating object data based on the processing, generating incident data including the object data and the images; and a network interface for sending the incident data over a communications network to the server during operation of the vehicle on the roadway. Also included are both interactive and autonomous possesses for implementing the device.

Claims (29)

1. A system mounted to a vehicle for identifying a plurality of incidents of a roadway external to the vehicle and transmitting the identified incidents to a server, the plurality of incidents pertaining to the roadway surface itself, the server located remotely from the system, the system comprising:

a device having:

at least one camera for obtaining digital images of the roadway surface;

at least one sensor including location-based sensor;

at least one memory and at least one processor for executing image processing instructions including artificial intelligence (AI) for processing the digital images for automated detection of the plurality of incidents, in order to determine the identified incidents based on the instructions, generating object data based on the processing and incident data including the object data and the digital images; and

a network interface for sending the incident data over a communications network to the server during operation of the vehicle on the roadway.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the AI performs the automated detection to identify the plurality of incidents on a roadway in a moving vehicle by utilizing operations related to image processing and AI inference on the digital images.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein the system includes an interface for receiving an input from the operator of the device for interactive tagging of incidents of the incident data, including at least incident images and incident location from the at least one sensor for transmission to the server.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the device communicates with an external trigger module.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein, when activated, the external trigger module initiates an incident capture, storage and transmission of the incident data to server.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the trigger module input activates a tagging of a selected one of the plurality of incidents in the incident data with an added label.

7. The system of claim 3 , wherein the system is capable of capturing audio data using a microphone and/or an audio interface.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein a voice command initiates a capture, storage and transmission of the incident data to server.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein different voice commands result in different incident tags.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the voice commands are transcribed and analyzed locally on the device using speech-to-text algorithms or the AI.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the voice commands are transcribed and analyzed remotely using speech-to-text algorithms or the AI on a remote server.

12. The system of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of incidents reported by the device to the server can be accessed through a client application, an app or a browser.

13. The system of claim 3 , wherein the incident data sent includes sensor data captured from the at least one sensor.

14. The system of claim 3 , wherein the incident is tagged with additional metadata derived from the input.

15. The system of claim 3 , wherein the incident data can include a video clip instead of an image.

16. The system of claim 3 , wherein the incident data can include a video clip in addition to an image.

17. The system of claim 3 , wherein the incident data contains redactions of personal identifying information.

18. The system of claim 3 , wherein the interactive tagging takes place concurrently with the automated detection of the incidents.

19. The system of claim 3 , wherein the interactive tagging takes place in sequence with automated detection of the incidents.

20. The system of claim 3 , wherein the device is a smartphone.

21. A method for identifying a plurality of incidents of a roadway external to the vehicle and transmitting the identified incidents to a server, the plurality of incidents pertaining to the roadway surface itself, the server located remotely from the system, utilizing at least one memory and at least one processor for executing instructions to:

instruct a device mounted on a vehicle, the device having at least one camera for obtaining digital images of the roadway surface and sensor data using at least one sensor including location-based sensor;

execute image processing instructions including artificial intelligence (AI) for processing the digital images for automated detection of the plurality of incidents, in order to determine the identified incidents based on the instructions, generating object data based on the processing and incident data including the object data and the digital images; and

send the incident data over a communications network to the server during operation of the vehicle on the roadway.
