Abstract

Cleaning compositions that include a non-functionalized alkyl polyglycoside, a nonionic surfactant system, and water. In certain embodiments, the cleaning compositions are substantially free of alkyl phenol ethoxylates. Additionally, some embodiments of the invention are substantially free of butyl cellosolve. The cleaning composition is capable of removing both proteinaceous food soils and hydrocarbon-based oily soils. The cleaning compositions include a biorenewable, environmentally friendly alternative to nonyl phenol ethoxylates and exhibit superior cleaning of food soils.

Claims (33)

1. A hard surface cleaning composition comprising:

an alkyl polyglycoside comprising a fatty aliphatic group with between 6 and 20 carbon atoms;

a carbonate-based alkalinity source;

a nonionic surfactant system comprising:

(a) a first nonionic surfactant comprising a linear alcohol ethoxylate, and

(b) a second nonionic surfactant; and

glycerine; wherein the composition is substantially free of butyl cellosolve.

2. The hard surface cleaning composition of claim 1 wherein said nonionic surfactant system comprises between about 0.1 wt. % and about 15 wt. %.

3. The hard surface cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the fatty aliphatic group of the alkyl polyglycoside has between 8 and 16 carbon atoms.

4. The hard surface cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the alkyl polyglycoside is a mixture of at least two alkyl polyglycosides.

5. The hard surface cleaning composition of claim 4 , wherein each of the at least two alkyl polyglycosides has a fatty aliphatic group of between 8 and 16 carbon atoms.

6. The hard surface cleaning composition of claim 1 , wherein the glycerine is in a concentration of up to 20 wt. %.

7. The hard surface cleaning composition of claim 1 , further comprising a hydroxide-based alkalinity source.

8. The hard surface cleaning composition of claim 1 , further comprising water.

9. The hard surface cleaning composition of claim 1 , further comprising a quaternary ammonium compound.

10. A ready-to-use hard surface cleaner comprising:

a composition comprising

between about 0.05 wt. % and about 10 wt. % of an alkyl polyglycoside comprising a fatty aliphatic group with between 6 and 20 carbon atoms;

a carbonate-based alkalinity source;

between about 0.1 wt. % and about 15 wt. % of a nonionic surfactant system comprising:

(a) a first nonionic surfactant comprising a linear alcohol ethoxylate, and

(b) a second nonionic surfactant;

glycerine; and

water diluting the composition up to 96 wt. %; wherein the cleaner is substantially free of butyl cellosolve.

11. The ready-to-use hard surface cleaner of claim 10 , wherein the cleaner is sprayable.

12. The ready-to-use hard surface cleaner of claim 10 , wherein the fatty aliphatic group of the alkyl polyglycoside has between 8 and 16 carbon atoms.

13. The ready-to-use hard surface cleaner of claim 10 , wherein the alkyl polyglycoside is a mixture of at least two alkyl polyglycosides.

14. The ready-to-use hard surface cleaner of claim 13 , wherein each of the at least two alkyl polyglycosides has a fatty aliphatic group of between 8 and 16 carbon atoms.

15. The ready-to-use hard surface cleaner of claim 10 , wherein the glycerine is in a concentration of between about 0.01 wt. % and about 5 wt. % of the composition.

16. The ready-to-use hard surface cleaner of claim 10 , wherein the composition further comprises an alkalinity source.

17. The ready-to-use hard surface cleaner of claim 10 , further comprising a quaternary ammonium compound.

18. A method of cleaning a hard surface comprising:

contacting the hard surface with the ready-to-use hard surface cleaner of claim 10 .
