Abstract

A method for dynamically rearranging one or more packages for delivery on a delivery vehicle in response to unforeseen changes in a pre-planned delivery route. The method detects, via one or more sensor-enabled shelves in a delivery vehicle, an address and package details of a respective delivery package. The method further integrates the one or more sensor-enabled shelves with a route map that depicts the pre-planned delivery route. The method further assigns new values to the one or more sensor-enabled shelves, in response to a change in the pre-planned delivery route, indicating a new sequence of delivery for each respective delivery package. The method further notifies a delivery person which delivery package is to be delivered at a current stop by illuminating the one or more sensor-enabled shelves containing the respective delivery package.

Claims (52)

1. A method for dynamically rearranging one or more packages for delivery on a delivery vehicle, comprising:

detecting, via one or more sensor-enabled shelves in the delivery vehicle, an address and package details of a respective delivery package associated with the one or more sensor-enabled shelves, wherein the one or more sensor-enabled shelves are numbered according to a pre-planned delivery route;

integrating the one or more sensor-enabled shelves with a route map that depicts the pre-planned delivery route;

in response to an unforeseen change in the pre-planned delivery route, dynamically re-numbering the one or more sensor-enabled shelves indicating a new number sequence of delivery for each respective delivery package;

associating a location of the delivery vehicle with the address of the respective delivery package associated with the one or more sensor-enabled shelves; and

notifying a delivery person which delivery package is to be delivered at a current stop by vibrating the one or more sensor-enabled shelves containing the respective delivery package.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

synchronizing a delivery route recalculation, based on the change in the pre-planned delivery route, with the one or more sensor-enabled shelves and global positioning system (GPS) beacons.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

integrating the delivery route recalculation with augmented reality (AR) glasses.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

depicting a colored outline around the delivery package that is to be delivered at the current stop, when viewed through the AR glasses.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating a directed graph data structure that emulates the pre-planned delivery route, wherein each node of the graph data structure represents a delivery stop and is annotated with corresponding GPS coordinates and associated delivery package identifiers (IDs) to be delivered at the delivery stop, wherein the associated delivery package IDs include smart labels and delivery instructions; and

projecting the delivery package in a three-dimensional (3D) AR image superimposed on a delivery address image, further depicting an exact location at the delivery address where to leave the delivery package.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the smart labels associated with the delivery package ID comprise additional information related to the delivery package comprising address, weight, package dimensions, and delivery instructions.

7. The method of claim 3 , wherein the AR glasses scan the address on a smart label of the delivery package and suggests where in the delivery vehicle it makes most sense to place the delivery package, according to the pre-planned delivery route.

8. A computer program product, comprising a non-transitory tangible storage device having program code embodied therewith, the program code executable by a processor of a computer to perform a method, the method comprising:

detecting, via one or more sensor-enabled shelves in the delivery vehicle, an address and package details of a respective delivery package associated with the one or more sensor-enabled shelves;

integrating the one or more sensor-enabled shelves with a route map that depicts a pre-planned delivery route;

in response to an unforeseen change in the pre-planned delivery route, assigning new values to the one or more sensor-enabled shelves indicating a new sequence of delivery for each respective delivery package, wherein the one or more sensor-enabled shelves are re-arranged in a new order based on the new sequence of delivery;

associating a location of the delivery vehicle with the address of the respective delivery package associated with the one or more sensor-enabled shelves; and

notifying a delivery person which delivery package is to be delivered at a current stop by vibrating the one or more sensor-enabled shelves containing the respective delivery package.

9. The computer program product of claim 8 , further comprising:

synchronizing a delivery route recalculation, based on the change in the pre-planned delivery route, with the one or more sensor-enabled shelves and global positioning system (GPS) beacons.

10. The computer program product of claim 9 , further comprising:

integrating the delivery route recalculation with augmented reality (AR) glasses.

11. The computer program product of claim 10 , further comprising:

depicting a colored outline around the delivery package that is to be delivered at the current stop, when viewed through the AR glasses.

12. The computer program product of claim 8 , further comprising:

generating a directed graph data structure that emulates the pre-planned delivery route, wherein each node of the graph data structure represents a delivery stop and is annotated with corresponding GPS coordinates and associated delivery package identifiers (IDs) to be delivered at the delivery stop, wherein the associated delivery package IDs include smart labels and delivery instructions; and

projecting the delivery package in a three-dimensional (3D) AR image superimposed on a delivery address image, further depicting an exact location at the delivery address where to leave the delivery package.

13. The computer program product of claim 12 , wherein the smart labels associated with the delivery package ID comprise additional information related to the delivery package comprising address, weight, package dimensions, and delivery instructions.

14. The computer program product of claim 10 , wherein the AR glasses scan the address on a smart label of the delivery package and suggests where in the delivery vehicle it makes most sense to place the delivery package, according to the pre-planned delivery route.

15. A computer system, comprising:

one or more computer devices each having one or more processors and one or more tangible storage devices; and

a program embodied on at least one of the one or more storage devices, the program having a plurality of program instructions for execution by the one or more processors, the program instructions comprising instructions for:

detecting, via one or more sensor-enabled shelves in the delivery vehicle, an address and package details of a respective delivery package associated with the one or more sensor-enabled shelves;

integrating the one or more sensor-enabled shelves with a route map that depicts a pre-planned delivery route;

in response to an unforeseen change in the pre-planned delivery route, assigning new values to the one or more sensor-enabled shelves indicating a new sequence of delivery for each respective delivery package, wherein the one or more sensor-enabled shelves are re-arranged in a new order based on the new sequence of delivery;

associating a location of the delivery vehicle with the address of the respective delivery package associated with the one or more sensor-enabled shelves; and

notifying a delivery person which delivery package is to be delivered at a current stop by vibrating the one or more sensor-enabled shelves containing the respective delivery package.

16. The computer system of claim 15 , further comprising:

synchronizing a delivery route recalculation, based on the change in the pre-planned delivery route, with the one or more sensor-enabled shelves and global positioning system (GPS) beacons.

17. The computer system of claim 16 , further comprising:

integrating the delivery route recalculation with augmented reality (AR) glasses.

18. The computer system of claim 17 , further comprising:

depicting a colored outline around the delivery package that is to be delivered at the current stop, when viewed through the AR glasses.

19. The computer system of claim 15 , further comprising:

generating a directed graph data structure that emulates the pre-planned delivery route, wherein each node of the graph data structure represents a delivery stop and is annotated with corresponding GPS coordinates and associated delivery package identifiers (IDs) to be delivered at the delivery stop, wherein the associated delivery package IDs include smart labels and delivery instructions; and
