Abstract

Methods and apparatus are provided for a bridging application that allows for a user computer to connect to and communicate with multiple videoconference platforms. The bridging application includes a virtual camera, a first virtual audio device, a first switch, and a second switch. The virtual camera is configured to receive a video feed from a video camera that is connected to the user computer. The first virtual audio device is configured to receive an audio feed from a microphone that is connected to the user computer. The first switch is configured to allow the video feed received by the virtual camera to be sent to the videoconference platforms. The second switch is configured to allow the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to at least one of the videoconference platforms. The multiple videoconference platforms are independent of each other, and execute as separate instantiations of videoconference platforms. The first switch is configured to allow the video feed received by the virtual camera to be sent to the videoconferencing platforms independently of which of the videoconferencing platforms the audio feed is sent to. The second switch is configured to allow the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to at least one of the videoconferencing platforms independently of which of the videoconferencing platforms the video feed is sent to.

Claims (45)

1. An apparatus including a bridging application that allows for a user computer to connect to and communicate with multiple videoconferencing platforms, the bridging application comprising:

(a) a virtual camera configured to receive a video feed from a video camera that is connected to the user computer;

(b) a first virtual audio device configured to receive an audio feed from a microphone that is connected to the user computer;

(c) a first switch configured to allow the video feed received by the virtual camera to be sent to the videoconferencing platforms; and

(d) a second switch configured to allow the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to at least one of the videoconferencing platforms,

wherein the multiple videoconferencing platforms are independent of each other, and execute as separate instantiations of videoconferencing platforms, and

wherein the first switch is configured to allow the video feed received by the virtual camera to be sent to the videoconferencing platforms independently of which of the videoconferencing platforms the audio feed is sent to, and

wherein the second switch is configured to allow the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to at least one of the videoconferencing platforms independently of which of the videoconferencing platforms the video feed is sent to.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the bridging application further comprising:

(e) a second virtual audio device that includes an audio mixer having an output, the audio mixer being configured to:

(i) receive audio output signals from each of the multiple videoconferencing platforms, and

(ii) perform audio level control for each of the audio output signals,

wherein the output of the audio mixer is used by the user computer to adjust audio components of the user computer.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein the audio mixer is further configured to:

(iii) send the output of the audio mixer to the first virtual audio device,

wherein the first virtual audio device is configured to use the output of the audio mixer to filter audio inputted into the first virtual audio device from the user computer microphone.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the bridging application is embedded into one of the videoconferencing platforms.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the bridging application includes a user interface which is configured to be displayed on an interactive display of the user computer.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first switch is configured to allow the video feed received by the virtual camera to be sent to only one of the videoconferencing platforms.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the second switch is configured to allow the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to only one of the videoconferencing platforms.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the second switch is configured to allow the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to at least two different videoconferencing platforms, and wherein the bridging application further comprises:

(e) a mute function configured to mute the audio feed sent to one of the two different videoconferencing platforms when the audio feed is being sent to the other one of the different videoconferencing platforms.

9. A method for using a bridging application to allow for a user computer to connect to and communicate with multiple videoconferencing platforms, the user computer having a video camera and a microphone connected thereto, the bridging application including (i) a virtual camera, (ii) a first virtual audio device, (iii) a first switch, and (iv) a second switch, the method comprising:

(a) receiving, by the virtual camera, a video feed from the video camera that is connected to the user computer;

(b) receiving, by the first virtual audio device, an audio feed from the microphone that is connected to the user computer;

(c) using the first switch to allow the video feed received by the virtual camera to be sent to the videoconferencing platforms; and

(d) using the second switch to allow the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to at least one of the videoconferencing platforms,

wherein the multiple videoconferencing platforms are independent of each other, and execute as separate instantiations of videoconferencing platforms, and

wherein the first switch allows the video feed received by the virtual camera to be sent to the videoconferencing platforms independently of which of the videoconferencing platforms the audio feed is sent to, and

wherein the second switch allows the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to at least one of the videoconferencing platforms independently of which of the videoconferencing platforms the video feed is sent to.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the bridging application further includes a second virtual audio device that includes an audio mixer having an output, the method further comprising:

(e) using the audio mixer to:

(i) receive audio output signals from each of the multiple videoconferencing platforms, and

(ii) perform audio level control for each of the audio output signals,

wherein the output of the audio mixer is used by the user computer to adjust audio components of the user computer.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the audio mixer is further configured to:

(iii) send the output of the audio mixer to the first virtual audio device,

wherein the first virtual audio device is configured to use the output of the audio mixer to filter audio inputted into the first virtual audio device from the user computer microphone.

12. The method of claim 9 wherein the bridging application is embedded into one of the videoconferencing platforms.

13. The method of claim 9 wherein the bridging application further includes (v) a user interface, the method further comprising:

(e) displaying the user interface on an interactive display of the user computer.

14. The method of claim 9 wherein the first switch is used to allow the video feed received by the virtual camera to be sent to only one of the videoconferencing platforms.

15. The method of claim 9 wherein the second switch is used to allow the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to only one of the videoconferencing platforms.

16. The method of claim 9 wherein the second switch is used to allow the audio feed received by the first virtual audio device to be sent to at least two different videoconferencing platforms, and wherein the bridging application further includes (v) a mute function, the method further comprising:

(e) muting the audio feed sent to one of the two different videoconferencing platforms when the audio feed is being sent to the other one of the different videoconferencing platforms.
