Abstract

An appliance includes a vacuum insulated structure that defines a first compartment and a second compartment with a trim breaker proximate the first and second compartments. A mullion extends between the first compartment and the second compartment. A reinforcement assembly is disposed between the vacuum insulated structure and the trim breaker. The reinforcement assembly includes a perimeter frame disposed on a peripheral edge of the first compartment and the second compartment and a central plate proximate the mullion. Attachment plates extend orthogonally from the central plate and connect the perimeter frame with the central plate. At least one door is hingedly coupled to the vacuum insulated structure.

Claims (14)

1. An appliance, comprising:

a vacuum insulated structure defining a first compartment and a second compartment;

a trim breaker proximate the first compartment and the second compartment;

a mullion extending between the first compartment and the second compartment;

a reinforcement assembly disposed between the vacuum insulated structure and the trim breaker, the reinforcement assembly including:

a perimeter frame disposed on a peripheral edge of the first compartment and the second compartment;

a central plate proximate the mullion; and

attachment plates that extend orthogonally from the central plate and connect the perimeter frame with the central plate, wherein the perimeter frame is directly coupled to at least a top portion and a bottom portion of an outer surface of the vacuum insulated structure; and

at least one door hingedly coupled to the vacuum insulated structure.

2. The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the at least one door is hingedly coupled to the perimeter frame.

3. The appliance of claim 1 , wherein each attachment plate is disposed within a pocket defined by at least one of the first compartment and the second compartment.

4. The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the at least one door includes a first door and a second door, and wherein the first door is coupled to the perimeter frame on a first side of the mullion and the second door is coupled to the perimeter frame on a second side of the mullion.

5. The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the vacuum insulated structure includes an inner liner and an outer wrapper.

6. The appliance of claim 5 , wherein the trim breaker is operably coupled to the outer wrapper and the inner liner, and wherein the trim breaker is disposed along the peripheral edge of the outer wrapper proximate to the perimeter frame.
