Abstract

Disclosed is a system and method to route a call from a roaming UE on a 5G network. The system receives from a UE belonging to a home network an indication of a call to a dialed number. The call requires information associated with the UE that is not available to the first wireless telecommunication network, because the UE is roaming on a visitor network. The indication of the call includes a unique identifier of the visitor network. The system can determine based on the unique identifier that the UE is roaming and send a request to the visitor network to provide instructions on how to route the received call. Upon obtaining the instructions on how to route the received call, the system routes the received call.

Claims (69)

1. A system comprising:

one or more processors;

memory coupled to the one or more processors, wherein the memory includes instructions executable by the one or more processors to:

receive from a first wireless telecommunication network an indication of a call to a first telephone number,

wherein placing the call to the first telephone number requires a location associated with a UE that is not available to the first wireless telecommunication network,

wherein the UE is roaming on a second wireless telecommunication network,

wherein the indication of the call includes the first telephone number and a unique identifier associated with a cell site in communication with the UE,

wherein the cell site is associated with the second wireless telecommunication network, and

wherein the first wireless telecommunication network and the second wireless telecommunication network are 5G or higher;

determine based on the unique identifier that the UE is roaming;

based on the unique identifier associated with the cell site, determine the location associated with the UE; and

based on the location associated with the UE and the first telephone number, send an instruction to the first wireless telecommunication network on how to route the call.

2. The system of claim 1 , comprising instructions to:

receive, by the second wireless telecommunication network, a first request for a unique address of a node in the second wireless telecommunication network configured to provide the instructions on how to complete the call to the first telephone number; and

receive a second request at the node having the unique address to provide a routable number based on the first telephone number.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first telephone number is an N11 short code.

4. The system of claim 1 , comprising instructions to:

receive a request at the second wireless telecommunication network for a unique address of a database associated with the second wireless telecommunication network including a location of a cell site communicating directly with the UE.

5. The system of claim 1 , comprising instructions to:

send the instruction to the first wireless telecommunication network including the location of the UE or a location of a cell site communicating directly with the UE.

6. The system of claim 1 , comprising instructions to:

receive the indication of the call to the first telephone number at a second network repository function NRF associated with the second wireless telecommunication network from a first NRF associated with the first wireless telecommunication network.

7. The system of claim 1 , comprising instructions to:

receive the indication of the call to the first telephone number at a second network repository function NRF associated with the second wireless telecommunication network from a first NRF associated with the first wireless telecommunication network; and

provide to the first NRF associated with the first wireless telecommunication network a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of a Gateway Mobile Location Centre (GMLC) associated with the second wireless telecommunication network,

wherein the FQDN is a unique address of the GMLC in the second wireless telecommunication network.

8. A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions recorded there on, wherein the instructions when executed by at least one data processor of a system, cause the system to:

receive from a first wireless telecommunication network an indication of a call to a first telephone number,

wherein placing the call to the first telephone number requires a location associated with a UE that is not available to the first wireless telecommunication network,

wherein the UE is roaming on a second wireless telecommunication network,

wherein the indication of the call includes the first telephone number and a unique identifier associated with a node in communication with the UE,

wherein the node is associated with the second wireless telecommunication network, and

wherein the first wireless telecommunication network and the second wireless telecommunication network are 5G or higher;

determine based on the unique identifier that the UE is roaming;

based on the unique identifier associated with the node, determine the location associated with the UE; and

based on the location associated with the UE and the first telephone number, send an instruction to the first wireless telecommunication network on how to route the call.

9. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , comprising instructions to:

receive a first request at the second wireless telecommunication network for a unique address of a node in the second wireless telecommunication network configured to provide the instructions on how to route the call; and

receive a second request at the node having the unique address to provide a routable number based on the first telephone number.

10. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , comprising instructions to send the instruction to the first wireless telecommunication network including the location of the UE or a location of a cell site communicating directly with the UE.

11. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , wherein the call is a call to a short code telephone number.

12. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , comprising instructions to:

receive the indication of the call to the first telephone number at a second network repository function NRF associated with the second wireless telecommunication network from a first NRF associated with the first wireless telecommunication network.

13. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , comprising instructions to:

receive the indication of the call to the first telephone number at a second network repository function NRF associated with the second wireless telecommunication network from a first NRF associated with the first wireless telecommunication network; and

provide to the first NRF associated with the first wireless telecommunication network a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of a Gateway Mobile Location Centre (GMLC) associated with the second wireless telecommunication network,

wherein the FQDN is a unique address of the GMLC in the second wireless telecommunication network.

14. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 8 , comprising instructions to:

receive a request at the second wireless telecommunication network for a unique address of a database associated with the second wireless telecommunication network including a location of a cell site communicating directly with the UE.

15. A method comprising:

receiving from a first wireless telecommunication network an indication of a call to

a first telephone number,

wherein placing the call to the first telephone number requires a location associated with a UE that is not available to the first wireless telecommunication network,

wherein the UE is roaming on a second wireless telecommunication network,

wherein the indication of the call includes the first telephone number and a unique identifier associated with a node in communication with the UE,

wherein the node is associated with the second wireless telecommunication network, and

wherein the first wireless telecommunication network and the second wireless telecommunication network are 5G or higher;

determining based on the unique identifier that the UE is roaming;

based on the unique identifier associated with the node, determining the location associated with the UE; and

based on the location associated with the UE and the first telephone number, sending an instruction to the first wireless telecommunication network on how to route the call.

16. The method of claim 15 , comprising instructions to:

receive a first request at the second wireless telecommunication network for a unique address of a node in the second wireless telecommunication network configured to provide the instructions on how to route the call; and

receive a second request at the node having the unique address to provide a routable number based on the first telephone number.

17. The method of claim 15 , comprising sending the instruction to the first wireless telecommunication network including the location of the UE or a location of a cell site communicating directly with the UE.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the call is a call to a short code telephone number.

19. The method of claim 15 , comprising:

receiving the indication of the call to the first telephone number at a second network repository function NRF associated with the second wireless telecommunication network from a first NRF associated with the first wireless telecommunication network.

20. The method of claim 15 , comprising:

receiving a request at the second wireless telecommunication network for a unique address of a database associated with the second wireless telecommunication network including a location of a cell site communicating directly with the UE.
