Abstract

A system and method that include receiving a drilling trajectory plan to drill an intended trajectory. The system and method also include analyzing the drilling trajectory plan and identifying a tool face orientation to drill the intended trajectory based on the drilling trajectory plan. The system and method additionally include identifying an uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation based on a data structure storing uncertainty levels at different tool face orientations. The system and method further include determining a drilling plan based on the uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation.

determining a drilling plan based on the uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation; and

outputting a visual representation that includes the tool face orientation and the uncertainty level associated therewith.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the drill plan identifies equipment operations that include at least one of: an equipment operating speed, an operating torque level, a build rate, a turn rate, and trajectory monitoring rates that are based on the uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the uncertainty level is inversely proportional to at least one of: the equipment operating speed and the operating torque level included within the drilling plan.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the visual representation comprises at least one of: a steering response ellipse having a heatmap and a steering response ellipse with an uncertainty band.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further including receiving an actual steering response result of a steering command that identifies an actual drilling trajectory.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation represents a level of confidence that the actual steering response result matches the intended trajectory based on the drilling trajectory plan.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further including determining whether a deviation between an actual drilling trajectory and the drilling trajectory plan is within a threshold level based on monitoring the actual drilling trajectory.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 7 , wherein the drilling plan is adjusted to modify the tool face orientation to alter the actual drilling trajectory towards the intended trajectory based on the drilling trajectory plan upon determining that the deviation is not within the threshold level.

9. A computing system, comprising:

one or more processors; and

a memory system comprising one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by at least one of the one or more processors, cause the computing system to perform operations, the operations comprising:

receiving a drilling trajectory plan to drill an intended trajectory;

analyzing the drilling trajectory plan and identifying a tool face orientation to drill the intended trajectory based on the drilling trajectory plan;

identifying an uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation based on a data structure storing uncertainty levels at different tool face orientations;

determining a drilling plan based on the uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation; and

outputting a visual representation that includes the tool face orientation and the uncertainty level associated therewith.

10. The computing system of claim 9 , wherein the drill plan identifies equipment operations that include at least one of: an equipment operating speed, an operating torque level, a build rate, a turn rate, and trajectory monitoring rates that are based on the uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation.

11. The computing system of claim 10 , wherein the uncertainty level is inversely proportional to at least one of: the equipment operating speed and the operating torque level included within the drilling plan.

14. The computing system of claim 13 , wherein the uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation represents a level of confidence that the actual steering response result matches the intended trajectory based on the drilling trajectory plan.

15. The computing system of claim 9 , wherein the operations include determining whether a deviation between an actual drilling trajectory and the drilling trajectory plan is within a threshold level based on monitoring the actual drilling trajectory.

16. The computing system of claim 15 , wherein the drilling plan is adjusted to modify the tool face orientation to alter the actual drilling trajectory towards the intended trajectory based on the drilling trajectory plan upon determining that the deviation is not within the threshold level.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a computing system, cause the computing system to perform operations, the operations comprising:

receiving a drilling trajectory plan to drill an intended trajectory;

analyzing the drilling trajectory plan and identifying a tool face orientation to drill the intended trajectory based on the drilling trajectory plan;

identifying an uncertainty level associated with the tool face orientation based on a data structure storing uncertainty levels at different tool face orientations;
