Abstract

This disclosure is directed to improved chair assemblies that can be integrated with various technologies, including heating, massaging technologies, cooling, and other technologies. Various portions of the chair assemblies include attachment structures that permit electronic assemblies to be attached and removed from the chair assemblies. The electronic assemblies can include electronics that facilitate heat therapy, massage therapy, and/or cooling therapy functions.

Claims (47)

1. A chair assembly comprising:

a neck portion, an upper back portion, an arm rest portion, a seat portion, a leg portion, and a lumbar support portion, the lumbar support portion comprising:

a lumbar support surface configured to support a lumbar of a user and allow a flow of heated or cooled air therethrough;

at least one securing cover, the securing cover comprising flanges; and

at least one attachment structure configured to releasably engage an electronic component housing assembly and the securing cover, the attachment structure comprising:

an upholstery portion including a rear side and a user-facing side; and

a rim structure connected to the upholstery portion and comprising:

a back surface;

an inner edge;

an outer edge; and

a pocket formed by the upholstery portion and the rim structure along the inner edge of the rim structure, the pocket comprising an open rear side and being configured to receive the electronic component housing assembly, wherein the pocket comprises a shape corresponding to a shape of the electronic component housing assembly, wherein the pocket is configured to receive the flanges of the securing cover such that, in use, the securing cover can be connected to the pocket and secured over the electronic component housing assembly so as to hold the electronic component housing assembly against the rear side of the upholstery portion;

wherein the inner edge of the rim structure is spaced from the rear side of the upholstery portion;

whereby the pocket is defined by the back surface, outer edge, and inner edge of the rim structure;

wherein the electronic component housing assembly is configured to be inserted into the pocket through the open rear side of the pocket.

2. The chair assembly of claim 1 , wherein the upholstery portion comprises a mesh material.

3. The chair assembly of claim 2 , wherein the mesh material is configured to enable a free flow of heated or cooled air generated by the electronic component housing assembly.

4. A chair assembly comprising:

an upper back portion, a seat portion, and a lumbar support portion, the lumbar support portion comprising:

a lumbar support surface configured to support a lumbar of a user and allow a flow of heated or cooled air therethrough;

at least one securing cover, the securing cover comprising flanges; and

at least one attachment structure configured to releasably engage an electronic component housing assembly and the securing cover, the attachment structure comprising:

an upholstery portion including a rear side and a user-facing side; and

a rim structure connected to the upholstery portion and comprising:

a back surface;

an inner edge;

an outer edge; and

a pocket formed by the upholstery portion and the rim structure along the inner edge of the rim structure, the pocket comprising an open rear side and being configured to receive the electronic component housing assembly;

wherein the inner edge of the rim structure is spaced from the rear side of the upholstery portion;

whereby the pocket is defined between the rear side of the upholstery portion and the inner edge of the rim structure.

5. The chair assembly of claim 4 , wherein the upholstery portion comprises a mesh material.

6. The chair assembly of claim 5 , wherein the mesh material is configured to enable a free flow of heated or cooled air generated by the electronic component housing assembly.

7. The chair assembly of claim 4 , wherein the pocket comprises a shape corresponding to a shape of the electronic component housing assembly.

8. The chair assembly of claim 4 , wherein the pocket is configured to receive the flanges of the securing cover such that, in use, the securing cover can be connected to the pocket and secured over the electronic component housing assembly so as to hold the electronic component housing assembly against the rear side of the upholstery portion.

9. The chair assembly of claim 4 , wherein the electronic component housing assembly is configured to be inserted into the pocket through the open rear side of the pocket.

10. A chair assembly comprising:

an upper back support portion; and

a lumbar support portion positioned below the upper back support portion, the lumbar support portion comprising:

an upholstery portion including a rear side and a user-facing side, wherein the user-facing side is configured to support a lumbar of a user, in use; and

a frame member extending along a periphery of the lumbar support portion and attached to and supporting the upholstery portion, the frame member also including at least one attachment structure configured to releasably engage an electronic component housing assembly, the attachment structure comprising:

an inner edge, outer edge and back surface spaced from the rear side of the upholstery portion, wherein the inner edge, outer edge and back surface extend along the periphery of the lumbar support portion and defining a pocket comprising an open rear side and being configured to receive the electronic component housing assembly, whereby the pocket is defined between the rear side of the upholstery portion and the inner edge of the frame member.

11. The chair assembly of claim 10 , wherein the upholstery portion comprises a mesh material.

12. The chair assembly of claim 11 , wherein the mesh material is configured to enable a free flow of heated or cooled air generated by the electronic component housing assembly.

13. The chair assembly of claim 10 , wherein the pocket comprises a shape corresponding to a shape of the electronic component housing assembly.

14. The chair assembly of claim 10 , wherein the pocket is configured to receive flanges of a securing cover such that, in use, the securing cover can be connected to the pocket and secured over the electronic component housing assembly so as to hold the electronic component housing assembly against the rear side of the upholstery portion.

15. The chair assembly of claim 10 , wherein the electronic component housing assembly is configured to be inserted into the pocket through the open rear side of the pocket.

16. The chair assembly of claim 10 , wherein the upholstery portion is configured to allow a flow of heated or cooled air therethrough.

17. The chair assembly of claim 10 , additionally comprising at least one securing cover comprising flanges.
