Abstract

Apparatus and methods for lighting. The apparatus may include a first jewel and a second jewel. The first jewel may support the second jewel by a first link. The first jewel may support the second jewel by a second link. The first link and second links may be configured for transmission of current between the first jewel and the second jewel. The first and second links may be the only attachments of the second jewel to the first jewel. The first jewel may be configured to selectively emit three different colors of light. The second jewel may be configured to selectively emit three different colors of light. The second jewel may be configured to selectively emit the three different colors of the first jewel. The selection may be performed by a user using a switch.

Claims (65)

1. Apparatus for lighting, the apparatus comprising:

a section that:

is configured to extend from a first end that is configured to be electrically disconnected from a neighboring section by mechanical disconnection to a second end that is configured to be electrically disconnected from another neighboring section by mechanical disconnection; and

includes a light emitting diode (“LED”) module circuit including:

a first LED having a first color correlated temperature (“CCT”);

a second LED having a second CCT; and

a support connecting the first end and the second end, the support including:

a first output pole that traverses from the first end to the second end; and

a second output pole that:

 traverses from the first end to the second end; and

 is electrically isolated from the first output pole;

a selector configured to select from mixed CCT states a mixed CCT; and

a controller circuit configured to:

for a first fraction of time, apply to the first output pole and the second output pole a voltage having a first polarity; and,

for a second fraction of time, apply to the first output pole and the second output pole a voltage having a second polarity that is opposite the first polarity; wherein the first fraction of time corresponds to the mixed CCT.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the selector includes two or more settings.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein each of the settings correspond to a mixed CCT state.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the selector includes three settings.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 wherein each of the settings correspond to a mixed CCT state.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the controller circuit further includes a transistor bridge that is configured to:

energize the first output pole in a first mixed CCT state;

energize the second output pole in a second mixed CCT state; and

alternate between the first mixed CCT state and the second mixed CCT state in a third mixed CCT state.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein:

alternating between the first mixed CCT state and the second mixed CCT state is determined based on a duty cycle; and

the duty cycle corresponds to a user-selection of the mixed CCT.

8. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein the transistor bridge is further configured to deliver current to the first LED in the first mixed CCT state.

9. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein the transistor bridge is further configured to deliver current to the second LED in the second mixed CCT state.

10. The apparatus of claim 6 wherein the transistor bridge is further configured to alternate current flow through the first LED and the second LED in the third mixed CCT state.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first CCT corresponds to one of the mixed CCT states.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the second CCT corresponds to one of the mixed CCT states.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the selector is user operable.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 wherein the selector is mechanically operable.

15. The apparatus of claim 13 wherein the selector is electronically operable.

16. The apparatus of claim 13 wherein the selector is wirelessly operable.

17. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the first fraction of time and the second fraction of time are included in a switching cycle.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the first fraction of time and the second fraction of time vary in response to a user-selection of the mixed CCT.

19. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the mixed CCT is a mixture of the first CCT and the second CCT.

20. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the controller circuit further includes a microcontroller that is configured to receive the mixed CCT from the selector.

21. The apparatus of claim 20 wherein the microcontroller is further configured to control, in conformance with the mixed CCT, a transistor bridge to:

energize the first output pole in a first mixed CCT state;

energize the second output pole in a second mixed CCT state; and

alternate between the first mixed CCT state and the second mixed CCT state in a third mixed CCT state.

22. The apparatus of claim 21 wherein the transistor bridge is further configured to:

deliver current to the first LED in the first mixed CCT state; and

deliver current to the second LED in the second mixed CCT state.

23. The apparatus of claim 21 wherein the transistor bridge is further configured to alternate current flow through the first LED and the second LED in the third mixed CCT state.

24. The apparatus of claim 1 further configured to:

receive input voltage via a first phase line and a second phase line; and

apply voltage to the first output pole and the second output pole via the first phase line and second phase line.

25. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising:

a printed circuit board (“PCB”), wherein:

the first LED is disposed on the PCB facing a first direction; and

the second LED is disposed on the PCB facing a second direction that is different from the first direction;

a third LED, having the second CCT, disposed on the PCB facing the first direction; and

a fourth LED, having the first CCT, disposed on the PCB facing the second direction.

26. The apparatus of claim 25 wherein the first direction is opposite the second direction.
