Abstract

A system, method, and computer-readable medium for performing a data center monitoring and management operation. The data center monitoring and management operation includes: generating a tag for an object within a system, the tag for the object associating a contextual meaning with the object; registering, via a tag association tracker module, the tag when the tag is generated; and, storing the tag within a tag association tracking storage repository when the tag is registered by the tag association tracker module.

Claims (64)

1. A computer-implementable method for performing a data center monitoring and management operation, comprising:

establishing a secure communication channel between a data center asset and data tag management system, the data tag management system executing within a data center monitoring and management console, the data tag management system including a tag association tracker module and a tag association tracking storage repository;

generating a tag for an object within the data center asset, the tag for the object associating a contextual meaning with the object, the contextual meaning of the object comprising a definition in which a meaning of the object is determined by defining a larger expression containing a definiendum of the object;

registering, via the tag association tracker module, the tag when the tag is generated; and,

storing the tag within the tag association tracking storage repository when the tag is registered by the tag association tracker module.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

searching the tag association tracking storage repository when a particular object is accessed to determine whether the particular object has an associated tag; and,

using the associated tag to access the particular object when the particular object has an associated tag.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the tag association tracking storage repository is included within a tag execution engine.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing a tag association tracker user interface; and wherein

searching of the tag association tracking storage repository is performed via the tag association tracker user interface.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing a tag association tracker application program interface; and wherein

searching the tag association tracking storage repository is performed via the tag association tracker application program interface.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing a tag association tracker command line interface; and wherein

searching the tag association tracking storage repository is performed via the tag association tracker command line interface.

7. A system comprising:

a processor;

a data bus coupled to the processor; and,

a non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium being coupled to the data bus, the computer program code interacting with a plurality of computer operations and comprising instructions executable by the processor and configured for:

establishing a secure communication channel between a data center asset and data tag management system, the data tag management system executing within a data center monitoring and management console, the data tag management system including a tag association tracker module and a tag association tracking storage repository;

generating a tag for an object within the data center asset, the tag for the object associating a contextual meaning with the object, the contextual meaning of the object comprising a definition in which a meaning of the object is determined by defining a larger expression containing a definiendum of the object;

registering, via the tag association tracker module, the tag when the tag is generated; and,

storing the tag within the tag association tracking storage repository when the tag is registered by the tag association tracker module.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor are further configured for:

searching the tag association tracking storage repository when a particular object is accessed to determine whether the particular object has an associated tag; and,

using the associated tag to access the particular object when the particular object has an associated tag.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the tag association tracking storage repository is included within a tag execution engine.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor are further configured for:

providing a tag association tracker user interface; and wherein

searching of the tag association tracking storage repository is performed via the tag association tracker user interface.

11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor are further configured for:

providing a tag association tracker application program interface; and wherein

searching the tag association tracking storage repository is performed via the tag association tracker application program interface.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor are further configured for:

providing a tag association tracker command line interface; and wherein

searching the tag association tracking storage repository is performed via the tag association tracker command line interface.

13. A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the computer program code comprising computer executable instructions configured for:

establishing a secure communication channel between a data center asset and data tag management system, the data tag management system executing within a data center monitoring and management console, the data tag management system including a tag association tracker module and a tag association tracking storage repository;

generating a tag for an object within the data center asset, the tag for the object associating a contextual meaning with the object, the contextual meaning of the object comprising a definition in which a meaning of the object is determined by defining a larger expression containing a definiendum of the object;

registering, via the tag association tracker module, the tag when the tag is generated; and,

storing the tag within the tag association tracking storage repository when the tag is registered by the tag association tracker module.

14. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer executable instructions are further configured for:

searching the tag association tracking storage repository when a particular object is accessed to determine whether the particular object has an associated tag; and,

using the associated tag to access the particular object when the particular object has an associated tag.

15. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the tag association tracking storage repository is included within a tag execution engine.

16. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer executable instructions are further configured for:

providing a tag association tracker user interface; and wherein

searching of the tag association tracking storage repository is performed via the tag association tracker user interface.

17. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer executable instructions are further configured for:

providing a tag association tracker application program interface; and wherein

searching the tag association tracking storage repository is performed via the tag association tracker application program interface.

18. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer executable instructions are further configured for:

providing a tag association tracker command line interface; and wherein

searching the tag association tracking storage repository is performed via the tag association tracker command line interface.

19. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the computer executable instructions are deployable to a client system from a server system at a remote location.

20. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the computer executable instructions are provided by a service provider to a user on an on-demand basis.
