Abstract

The vehicle includes a first visual device and a second visual device. The forward direction is a direction from the driver seat in which the driver of the vehicle is seated toward the front of the vehicle. The first direction is a direction from the driver seat toward the first visual device. The second direction is a direction from the driver seat toward the second visual device. The first angle between the first direction and the forward direction is greater than the second angle between the second direction and the forward direction. The vehicle control method includes: issuing a first visual notification from the first visual device when checking whether the driver is awake during autonomous driving of the vehicle; and determining that the driver is awake and continuing autonomous driving when the driver reacts to the first visual notification.

Claims (22)

1. A vehicle control method for controlling a vehicle, wherein

the vehicle includes a first visual device and a second visual device,

a forward direction is a direction toward a front of the vehicle from a driver seat in which a driver of the vehicle is seated,

a first direction is a direction toward the first visual device from the driver seat,

a second direction is a direction from the driver seat toward the second visual device, and

a first angle between the first direction and the forward direction is greater than a second angle between the second direction and the forward direction,

the vehicle control method comprising:

issuing a first visual notification from the first visual device, without issuing a visual notification from the second visual device, to check whether the driver is awake during autonomous driving of the vehicle, the driver being determined to be awake in a case where the driver reacts to the first visual notification; and

continuing the autonomous driving of the vehicle upon determining that the driver is awake.

2. The vehicle control method according to claim 1 , wherein:

a reference angle is half of an angle of an average effective field of view of a human being;

a limit angle is half of an angle of an average field of view of a human being; and

the first angle between the first direction and the forward direction is greater than the reference angle and less than the limit angle.

3. A vehicle control system configured to control a vehicle, the vehicle control system comprising one or more processors, wherein

the vehicle includes a first visual device and a second visual device,

a forward direction is a direction toward a front of the vehicle from a driver seat in which a driver of the vehicle is seated,

a first direction is a direction toward the first visual device from the driver seat,

a second direction is a direction from the driver seat toward the second visual device,

a first angle between the first direction and the forward direction is greater than a second angle between the second direction and the forward direction, and

the one or more processors are configured to:

issue a first visual notification from the first visual device, without issuing a visual notification from the second visual device, to check whether the driver is awake during autonomous driving of the vehicle, the driver being determined to be awake in a case where the driver reacts to the first visual notification; and

continue the autonomous driving of the vehicle upon determining that the driver is awake.
