Abstract

A method for performing in a positioning, navigation, tracking, frequency-measuring, or timing system is provided. The method comprises: providing first and second estimates of at least one system parameter during a first time period, wherein the at least one system parameter has a true value and/or true evolution over time during the first time period; providing a local signal; receiving, at a receiver, a signal from a remote source; providing a correlation signal by correlating the local signal with the received signal; providing amplitude and/or phase compensation of at least one of the local signal, the received signal and the correlation signal based on each of the first and second estimates so as to provide first and second amplitude-compensated and/or phase-compensated correlation signals corresponding to the first and second estimates of the at least one system parameter during the first time period, and; determining which of the first and second estimates is nearer the true value and/or true evolution over time of the at least one system parameter during the first time period, based on a comparison between the first and second amplitude-compensated and/or phase-compensated correlation signals. A computer readable medium and system are also disclosed.

Claims (39)

1. A method of receiving a signal comprising:

correlating a digital signal provided by a receiver with a motion compensated correlation code, wherein the motion compensated correlation code is a correlation code that has been compensated using one or more phasors, wherein the phasors represent a predicted evolution of a phase and/or amplitude of the digital signal over a specific period of time predicted using a motion of the receiver in a direction of a source of the digital signal over the specific period of time.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the motion of the receiver is assumed or measured.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising motion compensating the correlation code before correlating the digital signal with the motion compensated correlation code.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a signal at the receiver for a first duration;

converting the received signal to the digital signal; and

determining the motion of the receiver during the first duration.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating the one or more phasors using an open loop control having the movement of the receiver as an input to the open loop control.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the digital signal is a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signal or a communications system signal.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein using the motion compensated correlation code produces a differential gain when correlating the digital signal.

8. Apparatus for receiving a signal comprising:

a receiver configured to receive a signal and convert the signal to a digital signal;

a motion sensor to determine the motion of the receiver;

a correlation sequence generator configured to generate one or more phasors which represent a predicted evolution of a phase and/or amplitude of the digital signal over a specific period of time predicted using the determined motion of the receiver in a direction of a source of the received signal over the specific period of time and to combine the phasors with a correlation code to produce a motion compensated correlation code; and

a correlator configured to correlate the digital signal with the motion compensated correlation code to produce a correlation result.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the digital signal, the motion compensated correlation code and the correlation result comprise in-phase and quadrature-phase components.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , the motion of the receiver is assumed or measured.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the correlation sequence generator generates the one or more phasors using an open loop control having the motion of the receiver as an input to the open loop control.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the digital signal is a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signal or a communications system signal.

13. A method of receiving a digital signal with a receiver comprising:

determining motion of the receiver;

generating a motion compensated phasor sequence comprising one or more phasors where the one or more phasors represent a predicted evolution of a phase and/or amplitude of the digital signal over a specific period of time predicted using the determined motion of the receiver in a direction of a source of the digital signal over the specific period of time; and

using the motion-compensated phasor sequence to correlate the digital signal with a correlation code and produce a motion-compensated correlation result.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein using the motion compensated phasor sequence comprises:

motion compensating the correlation code using the motion-compensated phasor sequence; and

correlating the motion compensated correlation code with the digital signal to produce the motion-compensated correlation result.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the motion of the receiver is assumed or measured.

16. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

receiving a signal at the receiver for a first duration;

converting the received signal to the digital signal; and

determining the movement of the receiver during the first duration.

17. The method of claim 13 , further comprising generating the one or more phasors using an open loop control having the motion of the receiver as an input to the open loop control.

18. The method of claim 13 , wherein the digital signal is a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signal or a communications system signal.

19. The method of claim 13 , wherein the digital signal, the correlation code and the correlation result comprise in-phase and quadrature-phase components.

20. The method of claim 13 , wherein using the motion compensated phasor sequence produces a differential gain when correlating the digital signal.

21. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more phasors are determined dependent upon first and second estimates of the receiver motion during a first time period.

22. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the one or more phasors are generated dependent upon first and second estimates of the receiver motion during a first time period generated by a parameter estimation unit.

23. The method of claim 13 , wherein the one or more phasors are determined dependent upon first and second estimates of the receiver motion during a first time period.
