Abstract

An image capture device with a bayonet, integrated sensor and lens assembly (ISLA), and fasteners. The bayonet includes an axis, mounting flange, fastener recesses and an inner flange. The axis extends through the bayonet. The mounting flange extends outward from the bayonet relative to the axis. Fastener recesses extending through the mounting flange. The inner flange extending inward from the bayonet towards the axis, wherein the inner flange is located between the mounting flange and the axis. The ISLA includes a forward end and internal lenses. The forward end that aligns with the inner flange to connect the ISLA to the bayonet. The internal lenses are located within the ISLA and aligned along an optical axis and the axis of the bayonet. The fasteners extend through the fastener recesses in the mounting flange to connect the bayonet to a first surface of the image capture device.

Claims (48)

1. An image capture device comprising:

a bayonet comprising:

an axis extending through the bayonet;

a mounting flange extending outward from the bayonet relative to the axis;

fastener recesses extending through the mounting flange;

an inner flange extending inward from the bayonet towards the axis, wherein the inner flange is located radially between the mounting flange and the axis; and

an integrated sensor and lens assembly (ISLA) comprising:

a forward end that aligns with the inner flange to connect the ISLA to the bayonet;

internal lenses located within the ISLA and aligned along an optical axis of the ISLA and the axis of the bayonet; and

fasteners configured to extend through the fastener recesses in the mounting flange to connect the bayonet to a first surface of the image capture device.

2. The image capture device of claim 1 , further comprising:

connection recesses extending through the inner flange; and

connection recesses extending into the forward end of the ISLA so that when the connection recesses of the inner flange and the connection recesses of the ISLA are aligned, the bayonet and the ISLA are connectable together by the fasteners extending through the inner flange into the forward end of the ISLA.

3. The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein the ISLA forms a cantilever-style connection with the bayonet via the fasteners and the fastener recesses.

4. The image capture device of claim 3 , wherein the inner flange is a recessed into the image capture device.

5. The image capture device of claim 1 , wherein the bayonet includes a forward end and a rearward end, wherein the forward end of the ISLA faces the rearward end of the bayonet, and wherein the fasteners extend from a forward end of the bayonet through the inner flange of the bayonet into the forward end of the ISLA to connect the ISLA to the bayonet.

6. The image capture device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a modular lens that extends into the bayonet and covers all or a portion of the inner flange when viewed along the optical axis of the ISLA.

7. The image capture device of claim 6 , wherein the internal lenses are directly connected to the ISLA.

8. An image capture device comprising:

a body; and

an integrated sensor and lens assembly (ISLA) located entirely within the body of the image capture device, wherein the ISLA comprises:

a forward end that connects the ISLA within the image capture device so that the ISLA extends in a cantilevered manner into the image capture device from the forward end;

a rearward end;

a lens assembly that comprises:

internal lenses located within the lens assembly and spaced along an optical axis of the ISLA between the forward end and the rearward end; and

an image sensor connected to the rearward end of the lens assembly that extends outward beyond a footprint of the forward end so that the forward end is not exposed from a direction extending from the rearward end towards the forward end along the optical axis.

9. The image capture device of claim 8 , wherein between about 80 percent and about 100 percent of the footprint of the lens assembly is concealed by a sensor footprint when viewed along the optical axis.

10. The image capture device of claim 8 , further comprising:

a bayonet connected to the image capture device, wherein the ISLA connects to the bayonet.

11. The image capture device of claim 8 , wherein fasteners extend into the forward end of the ISLA to connect the ISLA within the image capture device.

12. The image capture device of claim 11 , wherein the internal lenses are directly connected within the ISLA.

13. The image capture device of claim 11 , further comprising: a bayonet located between and connecting the ISLA within the image capture device via the fasteners extending through the bayonet into the forward end of the ISLA.

14. An image capture device comprising:

a bayonet connected to a forward surface the image capture device;

an integrated sensor and lens assembly (ISLA) connected to the bayonet, wherein the ISLA comprises:

a forward end connected the bayonet;

a rearward end;

a lens assembly comprising lenses; and

fasteners extending through the bayonet into the forward end of the ISLA,

wherein the fasteners are recessed within the bayonet.

15. The image capture device of claim 14 , wherein the bayonet includes a central portion and the fasteners are recessed within the central portion.

16. The image capture device of claim 14 , wherein the forward end of the ISLA extends around a portion of the bayonet.

17. The image capture device of claim 14 , wherein the fasteners extend through the bayonet into the forward surface of the image capture device.

18. The image capture device of claim 17 , wherein the bayonet includes a mounting flange and the fasteners extend through mounting flange.

19. The image capture device of claim 14 , wherein the bayonet includes fingers and the fingers are configured to removably connect to a lens module.

20. The image capture device of claim 14 , further comprising:

a modular lens that extends into the bayonet.
