Abstract

Anchoring or docking devices configured to be positioned at a native valve of a human heart and to provide structural support for docking a prosthetic valve therein. The docking devices can have coiled structures that define an inner space in which the prosthetic valve can be held. The docking devices can have enlarged end regions with circular or non-circular shapes, for example, to facilitate implantation of the docking device or to better hold the docking device in position once deployed. The docking devices can be laser-cut tubes with locking wires to assist in better maintaining a shape of the docking device. The docking devices can include various features to promote friction, such as frictional cover layers. Such docking devices can have ends configured to more securely attach the cover layers to cores of the docking devices.

Claims (45)

1. A docking device for docking a prosthetic valve at a native valve of a heart, the docking device comprising:

a coiled anchor that comprises:

a proximal tip;

a distal tip;

at least one full central turn defining a diameter; and

an upper turn connected to the at least one full central turn;

a cover layer surrounding the coiled anchor along at least a part of the at least one full central turn, wherein the cover layer is connected to the coiled anchor; and

at least one friction enhancing layer disposed over the cover layer, wherein the at least one friction enhancing layer is disposed over at least a portion of the at least one full central turn and no portion of the upper turn is covered by the friction enhancing layer,

wherein the coiled anchor is configured to be implantable at the native valve with at least a portion of the at least one full central turn of the coiled anchor positioned in a chamber of the heart and around leaflets of the native valve.

2. The docking device of claim 1 , wherein the cover layer comprises pores having a diameter of 30 to 100 microns.

3. The docking device of claim 1 , wherein the cover layer extends at least along a portion of the coiled anchor that is configured to be in contact with the prosthetic valve.

4. The docking device of claim 1 , wherein the coiled anchor further comprises one or more first securing holes near the proximal tip.

5. The docking device of claim 4 , wherein the coiled anchor further comprises one or more second securing holes near the distal tip.

6. The docking device of claim 5 , wherein the cover layer is secured to the coiled anchor with sutures extending through the one or more first securing holes and the one or more second securing holes of the coiled anchor and through the cover layer.

7. The docking device of claim 1 , wherein the friction enhancing layer is connected to the cover layer by sutures and provides a coefficient of friction of at least 1 relative to the prosthetic valve.

8. The docking device according of claim 1 , wherein the friction enhancing layer is a braided material.

9. The docking device of claim 1 , wherein the friction enhancing layer is a woven material.

10. The docking device of claim 1 , further comprising at least two radiopaque markers positioned along the at least one full central turn.

11. The docking device of claim 1 , wherein the diameter of the at least one full central turn comprises is between 20 to 30 mm, and wherein the upper turn comprises a first axis diameter between 40 to 80 mm and a second axis diameter between 20 to 80 mm.

12. The docking device of claim 1 , wherein the coiled anchor further comprises a lower turn extending from a lower end of the at least one full central turn.

13. The docking device of claim 12 , wherein the lower turn comprises a diameter between 30 to 75 mm.

14. A docking device for docking a prosthetic valve at a native valve of a heart, the docking device comprising:

a coiled anchor that comprises:

a proximal tip;

a distal tip;

a central turn disposed between the distal tip and the proximal tip;

an upper turn disposed between the central turn and the proximal tip;

a first cover layer connected to and surrounding the coiled anchor and extending from the distal tip to the proximal tip of the coiled anchor; and

a second cover layer disposed over the first cover layer and spaced away from the distal tip and the proximal tip of the coiled anchor,

wherein the docking device is configured to be implantable at the native valve with at least a portion of the central turn of the coiled anchor positioned in a chamber of the heart and around native leaflets of the native valve.

15. The docking device of claim 14 , wherein the coiled anchor further comprises an extension portion disposed between the central turn and the upper turn, and wherein the extension portion comprises a vertical region that extends at least substantially parallel to a central longitudinal axis of the docking device.

16. The docking device of claim 14 , wherein the coiled anchor further comprises an extension portion disposed between the central turn and the upper turn, and wherein the extension portion axially spaces the central turn from the upper turn.

17. The docking device of claim 14 , wherein the first cover layer comprises a first material having a first coefficient of friction relative to the native leaflets, wherein the second cover layer comprises a second material having a second coefficient of friction relative to the native leaflets, and wherein the second coefficient of friction is greater than the first coefficient of friction.

18. The docking device of claim 17 , wherein the first material comprises ePTFE, and wherein the second material comprises PET.

19. A docking device for docking a prosthetic valve at a native valve of a heart, the docking device comprising:

a coiled anchor that comprises:

a proximal tip;

a distal tip;

a central turn disposed between the distal tip and the proximal tip;

an upper turn disposed between the central turn and the proximal tip;

a first cover layer connected to and surrounding the coiled anchor and extending from the distal tip to the proximal tip of the coiled anchor; and

a second cover layer disposed over a portion of the first cover layer and comprising one or more bulges extending radially outwardly from the first cover layer,

wherein the docking device is configured to be implantable at the native valve with at least a portion of the central turn of the coiled anchor positioned in a chamber of the heart and around native leaflets of the native valve, and

wherein the one or more bulges of the second cover layer are configured to engage the native leaflet of the native valve.

20. The docking device of claim 19 , wherein the second cover layer comprises a braided material.
