Abstract

The subject technology receives image data including a representation of a physical item. The subject technology analyzes the image data to determine an object corresponding to the physical item. The subject technology extracts product metadata based on the determined object. The subject technology sends, to a server, the product metadata to determine second product metadata associated with the product metadata. The subject technology receives, from the server, the second product metadata, the second product metadata including additional information related to the physical item. The subject technology causes display, at a client device, the additional information related to the physical item based at least in part on the second product metadata.

comparing the identified object to a library of objects stored in the shared memory of the client device, each object from the library of objects including associated metadata with product information corresponding to a product;

determining a match between the identified object and a particular object from the library of objects based on a confidence score exceeding a threshold value; and

providing the associated metadata of the particular object as product metadata;

sending, by a client device to a product catalog system over the Internet, the product metadata to determine second product metadata associated with the product metadata, the product catalog system comprising a first processor for processing the product metadata and a first memory for storing information related to the second product metadata associated with the product metadata of an object corresponding to a physical item;

receiving, by the product catalog system, the second product metadata from a database server over a network;

receiving, by the client device from the product catalog system over the Internet, the second product metadata, the second product metadata including additional information related to the physical item, wherein the additional information includes information related to a set of similar products to a beauty product, the similar products being other products than the beauty product; and

causing display, at the client device, the additional information related to the physical item based at least in part on the second product metadata, wherein causing display the additional information related to the physical item comprises:

providing for display an interface at the client device, the interface comprising a plurality of media content based on the second product metadata, the plurality of media content provided by an external source separate from the client device, the interface further comprising a plurality of media content based on the second product metadata, the interface further comprising a plurality of graphical representations of a plurality of similar products, the plurality of graphical representations of the plurality of similar products being displayed below the plurality of media content.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the interface further comprises a list of ingredients for at least one of a particular product from the plurality of similar products, the list of ingredients being displayed below the plurality of graphical representations of the plurality of similar products in the interface.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein analyzing the image data to recognize the object further comprises:

analyzing an identification indicator of the physical item;

determining whether the identification indicator of the physical item includes a representation of a barcode; and

in response to determining that the identification indicator of the physical item includes the representation of the barcode, extracting product metadata from the representation of the barcode.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein determining whether the identification indicator of the physical item includes the representation of the barcode further comprises:

performing a recognition operation to recognize the representation of the barcode associated with the physical item.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the identification indicator further includes a representation of a Universal Product Code (UPC) corresponding to the physical item.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second product metadata includes information related to the media content from the external source, the external source being different than a messaging platform utilized by the client device.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

causing display, at the client device, a selectable graphical item to purchase the beauty product.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the additional information includes information related a list of ingredients associated with the beauty product.

9. A system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory including instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

analyzing, by a product identification module accessing a shared memory of a client device, image data to determine an object corresponding to a physical item, wherein analyzing the image data to determine the object corresponding to the physical item comprises:

executing an object recognition algorithm to identify the object, the object recognition algorithm using a prediction model to classify the image data into a particular object classification;

comparing the identified object to a library of objects stored in the shared memory of the client device, each object from the library of objects including associated metadata with product information corresponding to a product;

determining a match between the identified object and a particular object from the library of objects based on a confidence score exceeding a threshold value; and

providing the associated metadata of the particular object as product metadata;

sending, by a client device to a product catalog system over the Internet, product metadata to determine second product metadata associated with the product metadata, the product catalog system comprising a first processor for processing the product metadata and a first memory for storing information related to the second product metadata associated with the product metadata of an object corresponding to a physical item;

receiving, by the product catalog system, the second product metadata from a database server over a network;

receiving, by the client device from the product catalog system over the Internet, the second product metadata, the second product metadata including additional information related to the physical item, wherein the additional information includes information related to a set of similar products to a beauty product, the similar products being other products than the beauty product; and

causing display, at the client device, the additional information related to the physical item based at least in part on the second product metadata, wherein causing display the additional information related to the physical item comprises:

providing for display an interface at the client device, the interface comprising a plurality of media content based on the second product metadata, the plurality of media content provided by an external source separate from the client device, the interface further comprising a plurality of media content based on the second product metadata, the interface further comprising a plurality of graphical representations of a plurality of similar products, the plurality of graphical representations of the plurality of similar products being displayed below the plurality of media content.
