Abstract

An elongated floor cleanout assembly includes a drain assembly. The drain assembly has a body assembly and a grating cover secured to the body assembly by at least one screw. The drain assembly also has a cap enclosing the drain assembly and secured to the grating cover by the at least one screw. The cap defines at least one slit having an arcuate portion and an end. The at least one screw is captured in the arcuate portion and the cap can be rotated to selectively allow the at least one screw to freely pass through the end for removal of the cap without removing the at least one screw.

Claims (20)

1 . A floor cleanout assembly comprising:

a drain assembly having:

a drain body defining a hollow interior having an inlet end and an outlet end;

a cylindrical housing having both radially outward threads and radially inward threads;

a cylindrical shank having a throughbore defining an inlet, and at least one screw hole, the cylindrical shank having radially outward threads for threadable engagement with the radially inward threads of the cylindrical housing at a user-selected depth; and

a grating cover coupled to the cylindrical shank by at least one screw that is threadably received in the at least one screw hole;

a cap covering and secured to the grating cover by the at least one screw threadably engaged with the at least one screw hole, wherein the cap defines at least one slit having an arcuate portion and an enlarged end in a side wall of a recessed portion of a top surface of the cap;

wherein the at least one screw is captured in the arcuate portion and the cap can be rotated to selectively allow the at least one screw to freely pass through the enlarged end for removal of the cap without removing the at least one screw.

2 . The floor cleanout assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cap includes opposing notches for receiving a tool to rotate the cap.

3 . The floor cleanout assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cylindrical shank includes at least three screw holes.

4 . The floor cleanout assembly of claim 1 further comprising:

a strainer ring disposed between the grating cover and the cylindrical shank.

5 . The floor cleanout assembly of claim 1 further comprising:

a crown mounted on an upper radial surface of the drain body.

6 . The floor cleanout assembly of claim 5 , wherein the crown has radially inward threads capable of threadably engaging the radially outward threads of the housing.

7 . The floor cleanout assembly of claim 6 , wherein the crown and the drain body are permanently fixed together.

8 . The floor cleanout assembly of claim 7 , wherein the crown and the drain body are welded together.

9 . The floor cleanout assembly of claim 1 further comprising:

a label protector secured to the cap.

10 . The floor cleanout assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cap includes a level.
