Flexible ramp for raising a leveling extension
View Patent ↗A Flexible Ramp for a Cone Assembly that uses a Torque Transmitting Member; said Cone Assembly uses a Transmission Belt that has its teeth shaped below its belt. Said Flexible Ramp can ideally raise a Leveling Extension of said Torque Transmitting Member or a Non-Torque Transmitting Member from a base surface of a Cone of said Cone Assembly to a raised surface of said Cone, for all pitch diameters of said Cone Assembly. When said Leveling Extension is positioned on a raised surface, it can support the teeth of said Transmission Belt; even-though the teeth of said Torque Transmitting Member have tooth bases, and said Non-Torque Transmitting Member has a base surface for the teeth of said Transmission Belt; since the thickness of said tooth bases and said base surface can be compensated by the height of the raised surface on which said Leveling Extension is positioned.
1. A Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) for a Cone Assembly that uses a Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ); said Cone Assembly is to be used with a Transmission Belt ( 90 ) that has its teeth shaped below its belt; and said Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ) has teeth that can engage with said teeth of said Transmission Belt ( 90 );
said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) can be used to raise a Leveling Extension of said Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ) or a Non-Torque Transmitting Member ( 110 ) from a base surface of a Cone ( 112 ) of said Cone Assembly to a raised surface ( 112 -A 5 , or 112 -B 5 ) of said Cone ( 112 ), for all pitch diameters of said Cone Assembly;
said Leveling Extension comprises of a Top Leveling Extension Half ( 104 ) that is joined to a Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ) by a Leveling Extension Joiner ( 106 );
when said Leveling Extension is positioned on said raised surface ( 112 -A 5 , or 112 -B 5 ), it can support said teeth of said Transmission Belt ( 90 ); even-though said teeth of said Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ) have tooth bases, and said Non-Torque Transmitting Member ( 110 ) has a base surface for said teeth of said Transmission Belt ( 90 ); since the thickness of said tooth bases and said base surface can be compensated by the height of said raised surface ( 112 -A 5 , or 112 -B 5 ) on which said Leveling Extension is positioned;
said Leveling Extension can be practically positioned on said raised surface ( 112 -A 5 , or 112 -B 5 ) using said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ); since said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) provides an ideal or almost ideal ramping surface for said Leveling Extension; so as to not significantly reduce the load capacity of said Leveling Extension as it is being raised, and as such also to not significantly decrease the torque capacity of said Cone Assembly;
allowing said teeth of said Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ) to have tooth bases will greatly increase the strength of said teeth of said Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ), since said tooth bases will link the separate tooth sides of said teeth of said Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ) so that they will bend as a single unit; and allowing said Non-Torque Transmitting Member ( 110 ) to have said base surface will significantly reduce the stress on said Transmission Belt ( 90 ), so that more torque can be transmitted;
said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) comprises:
a) a Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 )
said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 ) is used to raise said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ), from the bottom-end of said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 ) to the top-end of said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 );
a top surface of said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 ) is shaped such that it has lateral inclines that substantially match the lateral inclines of a bottom surface of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ), from the bottom-end of said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 ) to the top-end of said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 );
a bottom surface of said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 ) is shaped such that it has a lateral incline that substantially matches the lateral incline of said Cone ( 112 );
b) a Side Wall ( 122 -M 2 -S 2 )
said Side Wall ( 122 -M 2 -S 2 ) is used to control the bending of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) so that it matches the bending of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ); this will ensure that the compression and stretching of said top surface of said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 ) matches the compression and stretching of said bottom surface of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 );
said Side Wall ( 122 -M 2 -S 2 ) is connected to said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 ) such that said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) bends as one unit, which can be accomplished by shaping said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) out of a single material;
said Side Wall ( 122 -M 2 -S 2 ) is shaped such that the neutral-axis of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) coincides or almost coincides with the neutral-axis of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ) through-out the entire length of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ); this is achieved by having said Side Wall ( 122 -M 2 -S 2 ) shaped such that the neutral-axis of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) follows the neutral-axis of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ) as it is raised from the bottom-end of said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 ) to the top-end of said Ramp ( 122 -M 2 -S 1 ), in a manner such that the neutral-axis of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) always coincides or almost coincides with the neutral-axis of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ).
2. The Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ) of claim 1 , wherein said Side Wall ( 122 -M 2 -S 2 ) has a Cable ( 125 ) that is used to help control the neutral-axis of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 -M 2 ).

A Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ) for a Cone Assembly that uses a Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ); said Cone Assembly is to be used with a Transmission Belt ( 90 ) that has its teeth shaped below its belt; and said Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ) has teeth that can engage with said teeth of said Transmission Belt ( 90 );
said Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ) can be used to raise a Leveling Extension of said Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ) or a Non-Torque Transmitting Member ( 110 ) from a base surface of a Cone ( 112 ) of said Cone Assembly to a raised surface ( 112 -A 5 , or 112 -B 5 ) of said Cone ( 112 ) for all pitch diameters of said Cone Assembly;
said Leveling Extension comprises of a Top Leveling Extension Half ( 104 ) that is joined to a Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ) by a Leveling Extension Joiner ( 106 );
when said Leveling Extension is positioned on said raised surface ( 112 -A 5 , or 112 -B 5 ), it can support said teeth of said Transmission Belt ( 90 ); even-though said teeth of said Torque Transmitting Member ( 97 ) have tooth bases, and said Non-Torque Transmitting Member ( 110 ) has a base surface for said teeth of said Transmission Belt ( 90 ); since the thickness of said tooth bases and said base surface can be compensated by the height of said raised surface ( 112 -A 5 , or 112 -B 5 ) on which said Leveling Extension is positioned;

a) a Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 )
said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) is used to raise said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ), from the bottom-end of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) to the top-end of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ); additionally, said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) is also used to provide a resting surface for a bottom surface of said Top Leveling Extension Half ( 104 ) that is not resting on a top-surface of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ), from the bottom-end of said (Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) to the top-end of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 );
a top surface of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) is shaped such that it has lateral inclines that substantially match the lateral inelines of a bottom surface of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ), from the bottom-end of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) to the top-end of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 );
said top surface of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) wide enough such that it provides a ramping surface for said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ) and said bottom surface of said Top Leveling Extension Half ( 104 ) that is not resting on said top-surface of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ); and
a bottom surface of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) is shaped such that it has a lateral incline that substantially matches the lateral incline of said Cone ( 112 );
b) a Side Wall ( 122 B-M 2 -S 2 )
said Side Wall ( 122 B-M 2 -S 2 ) is used to control the bending of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ) so that it matches the bending of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ); this will ensure that the compression and stretching of said top surface of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) matches the compression and stretching of said bottom surface of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 );
said Side Wall ( 122 B-M 2 -S 2 ) is connected to said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) such that said Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ) bends as one unit, which can be accomplished by shaping said Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ) out of a single material;
said Side Wall ( 122 B-M 2 -S 2 ) is shaped such that the neutral-axis of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ) coincides or almost coincides with the neutral-axis of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ) through-out the entire length of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ); this is achieved by having said Side Wall ( 122 B-M 2 -S 2 ) shaped such that the neutral-axis of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ) follows the neutral-axis of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ) as it is raised from the bottom-end of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ) to the top-end of said Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 -S 1 ), in a manner such that the neutral-axis of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ) always coincides or almost coincides with the neutral-axis of said Bottom Leveling Extension Half ( 105 ).
4. The Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ) of claim 3 , wherein said Side Wall has a Cable ( 130 ) that is used to help control the neutral-axis of said Flexible Ramp ( 122 B-M 2 ).
