Abstract

A touch input device including a touch surface, comprises: a touch sensor which is disposed under the touch surface and includes a plurality of driving electrodes, a plurality of receiving electrodes, and a plurality of dummy receiving electrodes; and a touch detection unit configured to detect a touch position of an object on the touch surface based on a detection signal output from the plurality of receiving electrodes of the touch sensor.

Claims (68)

1 . A touch input device, comprising:

a plurality of driving electrodes arranged along a first direction;

a plurality of receiving electrodes disposed to interleave the plurality of driving electrodes, disposed along a second direction different from the first direction, and electrically insulated from the plurality of driving electrodes; and

circuitry connected to the plurality of driving electrodes and the plurality of receiving electrodes,

wherein at least one of the plurality of driving electrodes includes:

a first driving electrode; and

a second driving electrode disposed adjacent to the first driving electrode along the first direction, electrically insulated from the first driving electrode, and different from the first driving electrode,

wherein the first driving electrode, the second driving electrode, and the plurality of receiving electrodes are arranged to form a plurality of unit cells including a first unit cell and a second unit cell,

wherein at least one of the plurality of receiving electrodes is configured to:

include an interface portion adjacent to the first driving electrode in the first direction within the first unit cell,

output a first detection signal including first capacitance information associated with the first driving electrode when a first driving signal is applied to the first driving electrode by the circuitry, and

output a second detection signal including second capacitance information associated with the second driving electrode when a second driving signal is applied to the second driving electrode by the circuitry,

wherein the first driving electrode is disposed in the first unit cell and is disposed closer to the interface portion in the first direction than the second driving electrode is disposed in the second unit cell,

wherein the receiving electrode disposed in the first unit cell is different from the receiving electrode disposed in the second unit cell,

wherein the first driving electrode disposed in the first unit cell is not electrically connected to the second driving electrode disposed in the second unit cell, and

wherein the circuitry is configured to output a third detection signal corresponding to a subtraction based on the first detection signal and the second detection signal,

wherein the first driving electrode in the first unit cell includes a first driving part and a second driving part arranged with the receiving electrode in the first unit cell interposed therebetween, and the first driving part and the second driving are electrically connected to each other, and

wherein the second driving electrode in the second unit cell includes a third driving part and a fourth driving part arranged with the receiving electrode in the second unit cell interposed therebetween, and the third driving part and the fourth driving part are electrically connected to each other.

2 . The touch input device of claim 1 , wherein the first capacitance information includes: information on a change in capacitance in response to an object's touch with the touch input device; and noise information, and the second capacitance information includes the noise information.

The touch input device of claim 2 , wherein the noise information includes at least one of: display noise information; information on a change in capacitance in response to a change of images displayed on a display panel; and information on a change in capacitance in response to a low ground mass (LGM) signal generated in a floating state.

4 . The touch input device of claim 2 , wherein the third detection signal includes only the information on a change in capacitance.

5 . The touch input device of claim 1 , wherein the circuitry is configured to sequentially apply the first driving signal and the second driving signal, and is configured to sequentially receive the first detection signal and the second detection signal.

6 . The touch input device of claim 1 , wherein the first driving signal and the second driving signal are different from each other, and the first detection signal and the second detection signal are different from each other.

The touch input device of claim 1 , wherein a receiving electrode that forms mutual capacitance with the first driving electrode is determined according to the first driving electrode to which the first driving signal is applied, and a receiving electrode that does not form mutual capacitance with the second driving electrode is determined according to the second driving electrode to which the second driving signal is applied.

The touch input device of claim 1 , wherein the first capacitance information includes mutual capacitance information formed between a receiving electrode configured to output the first detection signal and the first driving electrode, and the second capacitance information includes mutual capacitance information formed between a receiving electrode configured to output the second detection signal and the second driving electrode.

The touch input device of claim 1 , wherein the circuitry includes at least one of: a driving unit configured to apply a driving signal to the at least one of the plurality of driving electrodes; a detection unit configured to detect a detection signal from the at least one of the plurality of receiving electrodes; a touch detection unit configured to detect a touch position of an object based on the detection signal output from the at least one of the plurality of receiving electrodes; a control unit configured to control the driving unit, the detection unit, or the touch detection unit; and a conductive trace.

10 . A touch input device, comprising:

a plurality of driving electrodes arranged along a second direction;

a plurality of receiving electrodes disposed to interleave the plurality of driving electrodes, disposed along a first direction different from the second direction, and electrically insulated from the plurality of driving electrodes; and

circuitry connected to the plurality of driving electrodes and the plurality of receiving electrodes,

wherein at least one of the plurality of receiving electrodes includes:

a first receiving electrode; and

a second receiving electrode disposed adjacent to the first receiving electrode along the first direction, electrically insulated from the first receiving electrode, and different from the first receiving electrode,

wherein the first receiving electrode, the second receiving electrode, and the plurality of driving electrodes are arranged to form a plurality of unit cells including a first unit cell and a second unit cell,

wherein one driving electrode of the plurality of driving electrodes is configured to include an interface portion adjacent to the first receiving electrode in the first direction within the first unit cell,

wherein when a driving signal is applied to the one driving electrode by the circuitry, the first receiving electrode is configured to output a first detection signal including first capacitance information associated with the first receiving electrode, and the second receiving electrode is configured to output a second detection signal including second capacitance information associated with the second receiving electrode,

wherein the first receiving electrode is disposed in the first unit cell and is disposed closer to the interface portion in the first direction than the second receiving electrode is disposed in the second unit cell,

wherein the one driving electrode disposed in the first unit cell is different from one driving electrode disposed in the second unit cell,

wherein the first receiving electrode in the first unit cell includes a first receiving part and a second receiving part arranged with the driving electrode in the first unit cell interposed therebetween, the first receiving part and the second receiving part are both directly adjacent to the driving electrode in the first unit cell, and the first receiving part and the second receiving part are electrically connected to each other,

wherein the second receiving electrode in the second unit cell includes a third receiving part and a fourth receiving part arranged with the driving electrode in the second unit cell interposed therebetween, and the third receiving part and the fourth receiving part are electrically connected to each other, and

wherein the circuitry is configured to output a third detection signal corresponding to a subtraction based on the first detection signal and the second detection signal.

11 . The touch input device of claim 10 , wherein the first capacitance information includes: information on a change in capacitance in response to an object's touch with the touch input device; and noise information, and the second capacitance information includes the noise information.

The touch input device of claim 11 , wherein the noise information includes at least one of: display noise information; information on a change in capacitance in response to a change of images displayed on a display panel; and information on a change in capacitance in response to a low ground mass (LGM) signal generated in a floating state.

13 . The touch input device of claim 11 , wherein the third detection signal includes only the information on a change in capacitance.

14 . The touch input device of claim 10 , wherein the first detection signal and the second detection signal are different from each other.

The touch input device of claim 10 , wherein the first capacitance information includes mutual capacitance information formed between a driving electrode to which the driving signal is applied and the first receiving electrode, and the second capacitance information includes mutual capacitance information formed between the driving electrode to which the driving signal is applied and the second receiving electrode.

The touch input device of claim 10 , wherein the circuitry includes at least one of: a driving unit configured to apply the driving signal to at least one of the plurality of driving electrodes; a detection unit configured to detect a detection signal from the at least one of the plurality of receiving electrodes; a touch detection unit configured to detect a touch position of an object based on the detection signal output from the at least one of the plurality of receiving electrodes; a control unit configured to control the driving unit, the detection unit, or the touch detection unit; and a conductive trace.

17 . A touch input device, comprising:

a plurality of driving electrodes arranged along a first direction;

a plurality of receiving electrodes disposed to interleave the plurality of driving electrodes, disposed along a second direction different from the first direction, and electrically insulated from the plurality of driving electrodes; and

circuitry connected to the plurality of driving electrodes and the plurality of receiving electrodes,

wherein at least one of the plurality of driving electrodes includes:

a first driving electrode; and

a second driving electrode disposed adjacent to the first driving electrode along the first direction, electrically insulated from the first driving electrode, and different from the first driving electrode,

wherein the first driving electrode, the second driving electrode, and the plurality of receiving electrodes are arranged to form a plurality of unit cells including a first unit cell and a second unit cell,

wherein at least one of the plurality of receiving electrodes is configured to:

include an interface portion adjacent to the first driving electrode in the first direction within the first unit cell,

include first capacitance information associated with the first driving electrode when a first driving signal is applied to the first driving electrode by the circuitry, and

include second capacitance information associated with the second driving electrode when a second driving signal is applied to the second driving electrode by the circuitry,

wherein the first driving electrode is disposed in the first unit cell and is disposed closer to the interface portion in the first direction than the second driving electrode is disposed in the second unit cell,

wherein one of the receiving electrodes that is disposed in the first unit cell is different from one of the receiving electrodes that is disposed in the second unit cell,

wherein the first driving electrode disposed in the first unit cell is not electrically connected to the second driving electrode disposed in the second unit cell,

wherein the circuitry is configured to output a detection signal based on the first capacitance information and the second capacitance information;

wherein the first driving electrode in the first unit cell includes a first driving part and a second driving part arranged with the receiving electrode in the first unit cell interposed therebetween, and the first driving part and the second driving part are electrically connected to each other, and

wherein the second driving electrode in the second unit cell includes a third driving part and a fourth driving part arranged with the receiving electrode in the second unit cell interposed therebetween, and the third driving part and the fourth driving part are electrically connected to each other.

18 . The touch input device of claim 17 , wherein the detection signal includes information corresponding to a subtraction based on the first capacitance information and the second capacitance information.

19 . The touch input device of claim 17 , wherein the circuitry is configured to sequentially apply the first driving signal and the second driving signal.

20 . The touch input device of claim 17 , wherein the first driving signal and the second driving signal are different from each other.
